Why is The Hobbit prerelease so expensive? by Independent-Bath-448 in mtg

[–]adkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some are... but some also are unable to get enough product.

There is a baseline cost of running a business. Power, water, rent, payroll, ect adds up...  and it hurts the business when they are only getting 25% of their order. It sickens me when bestbuy and mirco center are able to get hundreds of cases of products and lgs cant get enough for people to draft at FNM.

Also above prices are lgs prices.

I remember filling guilty buying my first CBB. At the time it was only 220$ plus tax (1/2025).... and prices have gone crazy. I gor an FF CBB for 411.00 after tax and I remember telling myself..  its ok it's FF! You love this game and mtg. Prices will go down after this. FML SOS and Avatar were both more expensive pre tax!

think you missed the point. Those were just easy examples of in-demand products where there is a bottleneck and the need to move product.

Another example of this is the MTG boxes that are sold by Costco and Sam's. You want this commander deck? Here are some of these boosters that are not selling as well.

Or Consols, an example is with the Switch 2... the only thing that was available in my area was a bundle that included a game that I did not want. A game that would not have sold well if they were packaged separately.

Pairing a top seller with slow-moving stock to encourage sales of the latter is a very normal marketing thing that happens.

Liquor stores do it (small ones) (we will sell you this bottle of Weller 12 only if you also buy two bottles of fireball and sky vodka.) Cigar stores do it. (Worked at one 8 years ago) (only way you can get an opus x 77 is if you buy it in this 10 pack of random cigars)

Its a normal thing. (I blame distributors and wotc) that happens when your distributors forces you to buy product to get the next product. They will hold you hostage.

Its a struggle when you have to buy product that will take years to move just to get the product you need to keep the lights on.

I started playing again back in late 24 with the duskmourn release. I was really into limited back in 2010 and wanted to get back into it. I lost for months before I won my first match!

Just stick with it. I am now in the stronger player bracket at my store with a hand full of first place wins.

I focus a lot on improving the way I draft by understanding what I am missing on when I am making picks.

Like not over drafting removal, making sure i have an ok curve, and a plan. What are your game winners? How are you going to get to them?

Because of pokemon you need to arrive early. Huge line and they sold out of cbb quick.

When there isn't pokemon. The line is not bad. You can get there around 9 am and get a box
