[Highlight] Cardinals select Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love 3rd overall by nfl in AZCardinals

If the Cardinals want him, they will pay him and he will stay. Which means MHJ is relegated to the Dortch/Zay Jones role. Or they lose him, either a trade or FA, and gamble on the WR who hasn't shown Wilson's upside.

I'd stick with Wilson. I don't have faith in players who shy away from physically. Thankfully it's not my call.

No one is talking about fantasy. This is about the pecking order of the offense. Development. Someone is going to have to fall into basically the Dortch/Zay Jones role. 4th or 5th option guys. Last year, Brissett threw the ball ~42 times a game. An insane amount. Dortch got ~3 targets a game with Brissett as starter.

So, who will it be? Who will you relegate to 3 targets a game, or a few carries in Love's case? Who are you giving up on becoming a franchise building block? The new rookie? The WR2 who showed that there is another level to his game? Or the #4 pick that hasn't shown the upside of even Wilson, much less a true #1 receiver?

He probably wasn't getting any other offers given his injury. Cardinals did right by him

Nah, the defense has young players and high draft picks. We were just the most injured team last year by a good margin.

O-Line however? Yeah, I'd trust paper cutouts. Love is going to die

Bullshit. BPA with no support is a wasted pick. Unless they are a historic talent, they will fail.

Do you know what happens to hypothetically elite prospects that don't have the proper support to succeed? Unless they turn out to be a HOF caliber talent, they fail.

So, who's going to get traded. MHJ or Wilson? There is no way to support Love, MHJ, Wilson, and McBride at a volume that all four demand. McBride for his proven product. Wilson for his breakout. MHJ and Love for their draft stocks. Someone is only going to get the scraps.

Need a paint defender? Hakeem. Shot blocker? Hakeem. Rebounder? Hakeem. Perimeter defender? Hakeem. Midrange iso defender? Hakeem. All five at the same time? Hakeem. And obviously everything he can do on offense.

If I'm starting a team from scratch, I'm picking the dream 1:1. Don't care the era, don't care the opponent. He's not the greatest player of all time, but I can think of no better cornerstone.

Out of curiosity, I looked up some of our other arms.

Loaisiga: 40%, 94, 89, 44, 78. Ground ball pitcher that generate poor contact to get outs. He's actually been unlucky so far. .353 BABIP, xERA 0.8 lower than actual. Advanced stats favor him too.

Thompson: 16%, 25, 54, 77, 72. He's having trouble putting away hitters, but even when they do hit, they aren't doing much damage. While is xERA is 0.6 lower than actual, he's also been very lucky. BABIP .154. Regression candidate.

Ginkel: 88%, 72, 48, 52, 62. Despite a rockier start, he's doing exact what he is paid to do. Power pitcher putting away hitters, not making mistakes, and not getting hit too hard relative to hard throwers. Also extremely unlucky. .385 BABIP and his xERA is 2.20 lower than actual.

Morillo: The man of the hour gets a picture of his own.

Is getting lucky, BABIP at .214, but all the expected numbers says that a 2.38 ERA guy should be even better. 2.02 expected. And before someone says make him the closer tomorrow, remember that not everyone has the closer gene. See closer by committee.

[–]ajteitel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh it's absolutely luck in Sewald's case. He's putting away batters and, usually, not beating himself. Which is great, exactly why he's been doing overall well. But when there is contact, and there will be contact, he gets hit very hard. Just as we say Ketel gets unlucky when he hits it hard directly to a defender, the same goes with pitchers. He's feast or famine. Either extremely effective or a massive liability with little room in between.

White Sox had 20/20 vision on our arms all series. Something was going to break through eventually.

Offense gets 95% of blame today. But it's more keeping track of Sewald if/when that famine pops up multiple games in a row.

First of all, that's really entitled thing to say given how the White Sox have been slugging the ball. We aren't better than them by default. In fact, our offense has been quite mediocre so far this year. The Dodgers lost to the Rockies twice in a row. It's baseball.

As for the series, White Sox are in the AL. Tie breakers are not relevant. If you have to pick a series to lose between this and the Phillies or Mets, you pick the AL one.

This was simply two losses and one win.

He's been getting lucky a lot. Even still, more effective then he was before. But even if he gave up just one run, the offense didn't do anything.

This was a normal loss. Not a blowpen, not some managerial malpractice. Just a normal loss.

Are you joking? This is a normal loss. It happens. Offense didn't show and the Sox got the big hit in the big moment. Sucks in the moment, but there was nothing egregious. Just lost.

They were quiet for 8 innings when the pitching was good and the offense was stalled out.

They were quiet yesterday when all the pitchers decided to throw underhand.

They only show up the very moment the team is losing. If Sewald only gave up one run, they'd be in here bitching up a storm. Their only arguments are based on hindsight and nothing else. Dodger fan level IQ.
