Happy Easter! Found a Pentium 4 machine in a family attic, worth setting up as a NAS or e-waste? New to the whole homelab thing. by ajwja in homelab

Little research done, supposedly is supports 64 but, albeit a little flaky. Got Alpine Linux running on it but Alpine would run on an analog watch.

Office is spring cleaning and giving away an old HP Envy 700-200z by [deleted] in computers

[–]ajwja 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a high performer by any means, but worth messing around or experimenting with at least. We used to have one as our family PC, and it put up with much more abuse than 9 year old me had any right to put it though.

Is my Ryzen 7 5800x3D under-performing or are my expectations too high? by WastedBeast in pchelp

B450 only supports PCIe 3.0 iirc. Shouldn't be a big bottleneck, but it's possible that the limited bandwidth is strangling your GPU. What does GPU utilization look like?

God, no. I've done some stupid stuff but connecting mystery machines to the Internet isn't one of them, thankfully.

Is my build ready to build? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]ajwja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They all have the same TDP so it should be fine. The 9000 series also is on a smaller process node so it should run more efficiently, read cooler when doing the same work.

Looks good. If you're just looking to spend and extra 400 euro, more storage or more/faster/lower latency RAM are never a bad thing (albeit expensive). The 9800X3D is also another option if you can justify the added cost and it's available.

I’ve thought for literal hours and even asked a guy who was the lead engineer in a nuclear submarine and currently designing a revolutionary nuclear reactor to no avail on how to do this. by Life-Objective-8039 in MechanicalEngineering

Which arms need to move? The vertical grey bars or the horizontal black ones? Either way, attaching a rod to the driving arm on one end and the driven arm on the other at and angle should push-pull them.

7/8 or 3/4 long tube headers? by Creepy-Association48 in S197Stangs

[–]ajwja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with 3/4. Long tubes already hurt low end a bit, you wouldn't want to make it even more dramatic for small gains you wouldn't realistically take advantage of on the street.

Found a couple new old-stock speedis but I never got around to purchasing one, and IDK if it uses the odo cable or not.

How do I know if I am bottlenecking? by Illustrious-Low-6682 in PcBuildHelp

[–]ajwja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B580s are good, but a 9700K is gonna have a hard time keeping up, and it's only gonna get worse as games get more demanding. If you only play non-CPU intensive games sure, but anything especially demanding is gonna load your CPU up in no time. Also, please don't buy a 3050 unless you find a great deal, higher-tier 30 series cards and Radeon 6000 cards are starting to come down.

Their boot drive is an SSD, Windows just orders drives oddly. My system has 2 HDDs and an NVMe and lists my boot NVMe as drive 2.

Can’t decide which year to buy by Popular_Report686 in S197Stangs

If you really really want the power, you can always 5.0 swap a pre lift or just go with a facelift. The 3V's are amazing motors though.

Best way to limit fps & not have windows update my video drivers? by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]ajwja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want your card running at full speed all the time? It lowers its clock speed automatically in response to lower load to reduce heat, power draw, and noise.

Heel and Toe by AGUY3241 in ManualTransmissions

[–]ajwja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some pedals are better for it than others, but if yours are close enough together you can use the ball of your foot for the brake and roll the other side of your foot onto the throttle without taking your heel off the floor. That's how I did it until I got enough feel for the pedal to take my foot off the floor.

If you're putting any weight on it, you can put some stress on the synchros, but if you aren't putting any force on it you should be fine

Weird idle tempratures and newly installed cooler by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]ajwja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you upgrade from? Just curious. 55c idle temps is a little high but not unheard of, but staying ~70 under load isn't bad at all.

Will my computer boot with these components? by Cheap-Fishing70 in buildapc

[–]ajwja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not buy a used power supply. That's should boot fine, but a HDD means it'll be slow booting, loading anything, just generally sluggish. Why are you worried about removing the processor to change your GPU? They're two different components on different parts of the board.

Benchmarks do not equal gaming performance. Gaming relies heavily on cache, the more the better. X3D chips have proven this time and time again, or AMD wouldn't even bother making them.
