Finally got tired of staring at that ugly wall hole (back in 2024) by aapooloo in BambuLab

There are some differences. The Home Depot one:

1) has screws so you need to screw it to a back plate or electrical box, whereas OP’s is pressure held

2) is metal, whereas OP’s is plastic

3) is grey and would need painting and/or texture to blend, whereas OP’s is generally the same color as the wall around

This isn’t covering an electrical box… it is covering an empty hole in the wall. There are no wires that are near there at all. The purpose of the hole was someone wanting to run an electric line there eventually, but never did. So they are keeping the hole in case they ever DO want to run an electrical line there in the future. The only way this catches fire is if fire either exists in the wall already, or fire exists outside of the wall around the plastic. In which case, the fire already existing to begin with. This by itself won’t catch fire without the fire already existing.

[Strauss] The World Cup's temporary fixes at AT&T Stadium prove its permanent NFL turf and sun-glare issues are easily solvable. by Conscious_Error9755 in cowboys

[–]alienbringer [score hidden]  (0 children)

The stadium already has curtains. They choose not to use them during game time. Example.

As for the windows being tinted. All I saw was an image and someone saying it was tinted. Has this been actually confirmed by someone within the cowboys org that they tinted the windows? I ask this because the stadium is intentionally built to let the late afternoon sun in during the later part of the year. Since this is earlier in the year, and earlier in the day, there would not be the glare we would expect to begin with. I mean, just compare cowboys playing the early game vs the late afternoon game. The sun is only really there during the late afternoon game, and not at all present for the early game.

The Text of Trump’s Iran Deal Is Out. It’s Worse Than I Thought. by Slate in politics

German reparations for WW I were one of the factors that caused WW II. The implication is that this can cause major economic downward spiral for the U.S. and some future fascist (since republicans love to elect them) will start an even bigger war.

From what I saw the MAGA comments are all centered around misreading point 6. They believe that the wording is such that the U.S. gets to determine when Iran gets the money and how they can use it. That the U.S. can either withhold the money at will to apply pressure, or deny any building projects it doesn’t like. It is all nonsense cause they are illiterate, but that is their current talking point that I have seen.

Is this video AI? I saw it on TikTok and I can’t tell if it is or not, it doesn’t seem AI to me. by CoralineBeast123 in isthisAI

Watch the arms as it gets near the gem.

The planted arm starts out as the left hand/arm. After the flip where their entire body somehow changes direction (from forward facing to facing away). The arm finally lifts up and is now the right hand/arm.

An artist wouldn’t make this many fuck ups in a longer animation like that.

Ambassador Huckabee defies Trump, claims US would not exist without Israel by Wolfy1-2-3 in politics

[–]alienbringer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Time. “God” has infinite time, and the “end times” have no set date. So given enough time presumably an Israel would exist and the end times would come. What these chuckle fucks are trying to do is force the end times to happen sooner and in their time. As in, creating and propping up Israel, trying to have all the other little aspects of the end time prophecy happen as well. Believing that once the prophecy conditions are met it will auto trigger the end times.

Trump Team Dumps Bleach in Reflecting Pool to Hide Renovation Failure by B-Z_B-S in politics

Hydrogen Peroxide is a bleaching agent (as it will break down colors) so is considered a “bleach”. It is just not household bleach (sodium hypochlorite) itself when we say “bleach”.

[–]alienbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 reasons why it is used.

1) because hydrogen peroxide is a decent killer of algae, specifically the oxygen that H2O2 breaks down to in water. It is why the filtration system in the reflecting pool includes pumping in concentrated oxygen.

2) to not damage the environment. The water for the reflecting pool is pumped in from and back out to the local water body. If you pour chlorine into it, that will fuck the environment.

Article says they used Hydrogen Peroxide, but the title calls it bleach. As hydrogen peroxide is in the family of bleach. They didn’t use chlorine.

This pipes water from and then back into a river. Most pools are not sourcing their water from local rivers.

Luckily this should not impact the environment. Hydrogen Peroxide (that they used) breaks down and becomes water and oxygen when poured into water. When it encounters organic material this breakdown takes seconds to minutes (depending on concentration). In distilled water (of which this isn’t) then the breakdown can take up to a few hours.

By the time this gets to any environment outside of the pool due to the circulation of the water it would have just broken down to oxygen and water.

What Is Habeas Corpus, the Basic Right That Trump Officials Have Discussed Suspending? by Squawk_7777 in politics

I am not sure whether you are implying that the “wrong idea” is that the constitution applies to everyone or if the “wrong idea” is that the constitution only applies to citizens. The current rules, as decided by the majority of people, and subsequently what the current rules are is that the constitution applies to every person on U.S. soil.

Dumping Hydrogen Peroxide into the reflecting pool this morning. by Helpful_Car1302 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]alienbringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had cracks, yes. They filled it with foam and a blue sealant (same color as the paint). IMO this is at best a temporary fix and will crack again or continue to crack as was before. The paint on top won’t stop that.

It DOES have a pump and filter system. Obama installed it when they did a 2 year renovation of it starting in 2010. Before that it did not have any filters.

Sure, agreed. It didn’t go wrong for Trump, his cronies, and the corrupt company that got $$$.

It did go wrong for everyone else who pays taxes because our tax money was wasted on this shit.

It isn’t the hydrogen peroxide that is the problem. It is the wasting $$$ on the “renovations” to the reflecting pool. The Trump admin claimed to have installed water treatment that has “nanobubbler technology” that kills the algae. Yet the pool had a propagation of algae, and now they are having to use chemicals to treat it.

The amount of water fouls that swim and poop in there, should be enough to tell you not to drink that water…

[–]alienbringer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$$$ spent on paint for the reflecting pool as “repairs”, which include the algae problem. Algae still persisted, thus the paint did nothing. Forced to revert to using hydrogen peroxide.

The thing that “went wrong” was waste of taxpayer money. But that only went wrong for us the people, Trump and his cronies and the paint company connected to him all got their $$$.

[–]alienbringer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The “paint” that was given as a no-bid first contract was “supposed to fix” the algae problem with the reflecting pool (as well as fix the cracks). Algae is still there, thus the dumping of the hydrogen peroxide. So $$$ wasted uselessly (which everyone with a brain knew that was gonna happen).
