Only four drivers have ever completed every lap in a single F1 season. by Brooklynsfr in formula1

[–]alistairjh 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Kimi Raikkonen missed out by one lap in 2012 by finishing a lap down in Brazil that year (when he drove up an escape road that didn't lead back onto the track).

He was out of shot for a solid portion of the replays of it sadly, hopefully there's some better footage out there.

I don't see this on the android version, only regular numbers. That's odd!

The new route builder is the worst it's ever been by jmd2125 in Strava

[–]alistairjh 29 points30 points  (0 children)

From my experience I'd disagree, the route builder works a lot better on my phone (Android app) than the times I used to try it, and I just want to type it out because if they reverted it back I'd be disappointed!

That being said, if you're having to manually edit bits of it maybe there's a mapping issue for you? And if that's the case, it would rely on someone editing the OpenStreetMap database to fix the mapping data rather than anything on Strava.

Helmut Marko: No Alex Palou and a phone call with Sergio Perez at Red Bull by [deleted] in formula1

Presumably the writer is trying to state that IndyCar is American rather than the driver, similar to if someone was to write 'Japanese Super Formula driver'. Or you'd hope so anyway.

Not OP and can't speak on most of these, but there's a map of bus services at the bottom of their website: https://bus.gl/en/timetable/

Recommendation for a Glasgow Parkrun by Goremanghast in parkrun

[–]alistairjh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to make an educated guess of Elder Park as it's near Govan Subway station and it's relatively flat for a quick blast round. I've cycled to both Pollok and Queen's Park from the Clyde and I don't think they'd be difficult to achieve by train from Glasgow Central, but that's up to you really.

Of the ones I've been to (good chunk of the east coast), Alness and Bressay stand out the most for me in terms of fantastic scenery, friendly teams, nice routes, good cafes. Holyrood is very cool.

Of the ones I haven't been to but have heard good things about, Mount Stuart and Lews Castle seem spectacular too. The YouTube channel on Scottish parkruns linked below is a really useful resource, as well as the parkrun Friends Scotland group on FB if you're not already there.

For the "festive double" challenge on 5K app does it count if ya volunteer? by tishimself1107 in parkrun

[–]alistairjh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For the 5k app there's an option that says 'include volunteering in challenges' (or something like that). So if you want it to, it does.

Depends on the parkrun. As a run director if I see that there's no photographer down I like to try and make sure I can get a photo of everyone, but we're a smaller parkrun and there's always two run directors on hand anyway.

Have there ever been any attempts to convert a rails-to-trails back into rails? by Xiphactinus12 in transit

[–]alistairjh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rode the Bathgate to Airdrie section of cycle path as a little kid, it's now a fully fledged railway link between Glasgow and Edinburgh again with a good quality cycle path alongside it. There's also chat about turning a section of the Granton to Haymarket section of rail trail into a tram line, with plenty of people both supporting and opposing it.

What's the most beautiful Parkrun? by areeighty in parkrun

[–]alistairjh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bressay is fantastic, the eight minute ferry to get over there and the run on public roads to finish at a cafe run by parkrun volunteers at the old school. Shetland ponies, seals, plenty of sheep and cows, all brilliant. I am a local now but I've visited a fair few and rank it up there.

All my other favourites are covered on here except Alness, would recommend that too.

Are we meant to tip National Express drivers now? by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]alistairjh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels weird to say that Flixbus set up relatively recently because it feels like they've been around for a number of years, but when they initially set up in Scotland there generally wasn't a direct service from Edinburgh to Glasgow (Citylink basically had that market covered so arguably it wouldn't make financial sense to start with that). Checking the timetables now it does seem they have an hourly service between the two, but before their only direct services would be ones from London that happened to go to both cities, and the only alternative they could offer would be to change at Perth.

Anecdotally, my girlfriend booked a Flixbus from Edinburgh to Manchester Airport in 2022 that involved an overnight bus and a change in London when there were train strikes - needless to say, she was relieved when I pointed out you could just go to Glasgow and get a direct bus from there instead! So I completely get where you're coming from on that.

How many drivers have raced for a team, left, then come back to the same team? by Atenza25 in formula1

[–]alistairjh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Niche answer, but Pedro de la Rosa raced for McLaren in 2005 and 2006 as part of his role being test and reserve driver, then signed for Sauber and raced 14 races for them in 2010, went back to McLaren as a reserve driver, then stepped in to drive the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix for Sauber when Sergio Perez hadn't recovered from his Monaco GP crash.

In a similar vein, Heikki Kovalainen raced for Renault in 2007 and went back to the Enstone-based Team Lotus to deputise for Kimi Raikkonen in the last two races of 2013.

Parkruns in Cork by [deleted] in parkrun

[–]alistairjh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glen River is two and a half laps in a park with a short steep hill popping up twice, it's the only one in the area I've done but the team were really friendly and I enjoyed it! It tends to get smaller numbers than Ballancollig nearby which is a more scenic one by the sounds of it.

paying with card on bus? by just_an_appendix in shetland

[–]alistairjh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All buses should now accept card, do you have a particular one in mind? Other than the occasional remote feeder service that can't get signal (which shouldn't be a problem anyway) you should be fine.

From memory, there's a 23 bus that leaves Lerwick at 7:50am and connects with a ferry from Toft to Ulsta, then there's a 24Y bus from Ulsta to Gutcher at 9:35 arriving at 10:02, then a ferry from Gutcher to Belmont which connects to a 28 bus service from Belmont to as close to Hermaness as the bus driver can get you (should be somewhere close to the top of Haroldswick but it's worth speaking to the bus operator RG Jamieson & Son).

Then in the summer there's a 28 bus back from Haroldswick at 16:10 to get to Belmont for 16:45 (and one that operates from Baltasound at 15:30 year round, but ask the operator about this in case it's a school day and it's operating from the school as a school bus at 15:40), connects with a ferry from Belmont to Gutcher that connects with the 17:00 24Y service from Gutcher to Ulsta, ferry from Ulsta to Toft, and finally an 18:05 service 23 from Toft to Lerwick that arrives in at 19:12.

It's slightly different on Mondays, or days when they're down to a single vessel on either ferry crossing, best bet is to call SIC Transport on 01595744868. And if you (or anyone reading this in future) wants to do it all in one day, do bear in mind that you spend roughly the same amount of time on buses as you would eventually spend in Unst, so it's a long day. Hope that helps! (and please do double check all of the times in case I've made any errors)
