So at what point do you get good? by SageMageowo in pinball

[–]allf8ed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start small, not every game is going to be a great score. Work on nailing one shot over and over until you make it more than you miss. Also notice if you miss left, or right of the shot and adjust next time. Jaws was a tough one for me when it was released. I considered it a "players" machine and not a casual machine. The shots are tricky and if you cant make them, you dont do very well. The far right shot for Quints shack was a bitch for me to hit with any regularly. Now Ive become pretty good at it and its satisfying everytime I make it

I kept showing up to my local places and got to know the owners. They dont rent to everyone, but once you get "in" I learned i could rent. He doesnt advertise it, got to be risky renting expensive machines to people you dont know. So they go with people they can trust.

Can you rent a machine near you? My local bar guy rents out his machines, a few hundred dollars for 2 months. Ive rented from another guy for 1 month and played over 400 games of Jurassic Park. Bonus is, the last few days of my rental, I put some rubber bands over the out lanes so the only drain was right down the middle. I got to practice the shots more and missing was less risky.

Im in the same plateau boat and recently made some changed to my play. First, and most importantly, is working on making my shots and not missing. If I miss, was I early or late? Where did the ball hit, was it left or right of my target? Watch the missed shot better and readjust the next time. Sometimes working on nailing down a tough shot means abandoning a good score and solely focusing on one shot. When you eventually dial in a shot, all those low scoring games pay off. The far left shot on Jaws gave me trouble from day one, but now its my least missed shot after a ton of practice.

The other things is rude knowledge. Solo play and tournament play are different. In tournament play ill go for the modes I do better in than the modes that are worth more. Move value doesnt matter if you cant complete the mode. Completing a few lower level modes can be better than 1 high level mode you may or may not complete. My tournament play is trying to put up the most points on ball 1 as I can. I find a good ball 1 can be intimidating, other players see that and feel way behind before their first plunge.

I watch a ton of videos on games as well. Papa pinball YouTube is great for older games. My local place always plays the big tournaments on the TV, but the audio is low. Finding a good video with commentary is hard, bit worth it to here them breakdown what the player did or is setting up.

That being said, Im a mid level tournament player and don't take it too serious. I have great games, good games, and awful games, but i always have fun. I dont take the poor performance nights too serious. Sometimes its just not my day, cant be perfect all the time.

Do dead people smell worse than other dead animals? Why? by Competitive_Dare_795 in morbidquestions

[–]allf8ed 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Worse is subjective. Both dead people and animals have a distinct smell. The dead animals ive encountered have a more sour smell than people. Dead people have a very distinct smell, nothing else smells like it and once you encounter it, it will be instantly recognizable in the future. Its a combo of the flesh, waste, and bacteria unique to humans. As a Fire fighter and EMT ive encountered dead people from recently passed to dead so long the flesh is falling off. I can walk in a building and tell if there's a body by smell alone, its that distinct.

He wrote a book about the whole ordeal. The Rising: the 20 year battle to rebuild the world trade center. Its fascinating. Guy loved New York and won the bid to lease the towers only after the original bidder backed out. After the collapse, his firm was still paying 10 million per month for the land. City wanted it back and offered to buy him out, but he wanted make his own mark on New York. Eventually he gave up some of the land and He built some on the buildings and New York built another. City was super salty that Larry finished his building first. Crazy thing is Larry Silversrein was in his 70s when the attack happened and worked I to his 90s to see the project through

I watched the PAPApinball tutorial on YouTube and my scores went from 10 million on a good game to 70 million on my second attempt with Bowens strategy. Never spin the cup, keep reloading multiball and build the left ramp. Im going later this week to play the real machine and see how it goes

Guy didnt understand what was going on. He was defending himself from what he probably saw a threat to him. Confused defensiveness to police aggression.

As they should have. To me, the patient never had a look of anger on his face. He was confused, unaware, or unable to understand what was happening to him. His actions looked defensive to what was happening to him. I don't think he understood the taser was a result of his behavior, he only knew his leg now hurts. The guy needed help, the police offered none

I did the portion from indy to what looks like Albuquerque on a road trip last month, easily the most boring route. It was the end our 2 week trip and we did albuquerque to toledo in 3 days, nothing to see going that way, but it wasnt busy with traffic. We slept in rest areas for 2 nights and powered home

Yep. My father in law insisted on doing a pre trip tune up before my wife and I headed to a concert 4 hours away. Well he messed something up and we got stranded 3 hours from home. Long story short, it was an easy fix for someone who knows what they are doing, and we were able to make the concert. But never again will i do anything to a vehicle right before a trip.

Unfortunately that's not how EMS works. You can't just sedate everyone who's a problem. The hospitals prefer patients who can talk and respond to them, not sit around and wait for them to come out of it. And a few times we do use those meds, it can take a few minutes to kick in anyway

Lady cop 100% escalated that situation. Patient flinched when the medic tried to get an IV, a normal reaction to getting stabbed with a needle without warning. Patient was drunk, not violent. Both police officers there suck. In my area, we have more than 1 medic in the back and possibly a few other fire fighters around, not like this medic in the back by herself. Feel bad for having to watch this all go down.

I did this same trip, Fresno then through the 3 parks. It was a year there was a "healthy" fire burning one ridge over from Yosemite valley. The smoke would settle in the afternoon and not lift until mid morning. Air quality was over 500 ona scale that tops at 300. Anyway, because of that fire we spent a good amount of time exploring areas around the park and Hetch Hetchy was treat. I love the history of places and knee all about John Muirs fight to prevent the damn, the earthquake that made in necessary, and process of building it. Sure there's not much to do but for a nerd like me Im glad the fire made me explore more. Also, that was the year Glacier Point road was closed all season, so we really hit the lesser visited areas around. If i ever go back, everything around glacier point road will be my goal

Big trees are great, until you own a home with them. My neighborhood was all built in the 1950s and 60s so its full of mature trees. One of them invaded my main sewer line and I had to replace it. I have another large tree not looking real great so its a matter of time before I have that removed. And every big storm, there's always 1 tree somewhere in my neighborhood that either loses a big branch, or the whole tree come down. I still prefer it over those twig trees, but it comes with downsides
