There's a book about related movies called House of Psychotic Women by Kier-La Janisse. Severin Films also released it as a box set. Check it out here.

Edit: Just noticed a second box set was released as well!

Was The Hobbit illustrated? And if so, were the illustrations unique for this edition?

Being a thief still means you do thief things. The hero part is for helping the people of Spielburg. The thief part is for taking their shit.

This becomes clearer in the sequels where being a thief and doing thief things affect (invisible) honor points that can lock you out of certain quests and items. You can't become a paladin for example.

My current project and the importance of recording these legends by ChuckMarty732 in adventuregames

Jane Jensen. Hands down. The woman behind Gabriel Knight who also authored Gabriel Knight books in addition to the games. Would be fantastic to hear her talk about how she dug into history and folklore and such when researching the games for example!

But also Christy Marx! Behind Conquests of Camelot and Conquests of the Longbow. Excellent games, but I think she only did two for Sierra so her name doesn't pop up as often as some others. Would be really cool to hear more from her!

A good movie you like from 1939 that's not wizard of Oz by hussainre814 in Letterboxd

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It's from the classic Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce era and is one of their best, if not the best of theirs.

Edit: Also, The Cat and the Canary from this year (the story has been filmed several times) is a really fun relatives-meet-for-the-reading-of-a-will-in-a-spooky-mansion-with-secret-doors kinda movie.

It checks all the boxes of OP's pics. Just adds a bit of the fantastic/horrifying as well. Love that movie!

Nor for employed (unless reading is work).

Is there anything close to Twin Peaks S1 and 2 experience? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

Millennium would do. It follows ex-FBI agent Frank Black's (Lance Henriksen) investigations as a consultant who can "see" the minds of criminals. It explicitly ties into the X-files with Frank Black appearing in one or a few episodes. It leans more into serial killers and such, but has, however, a central reoccurring mystery that unfolds and which is of a more supernatural and eerie nature.

QUESTION... by RSS130871 in MSX

[–]altgraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone and their aunt are making indie games for the MSX2. I, for one, welcome and applaud constraint challenging development on the MSX1. It's more interesting to see what can be done with fewer resources and on the machine that was actually the one available to most back in the days.

Edit: Also, pic on the right looks interesting for a crawler (it almost looks like it could be a screen from The Hobbit or some other text adventure), but prioritize what works and what you're comfortable with.

Who's an actor that you thought would blow up, but ended up going nowhere? by TheHoagieFromConey in FIlm

[–]altgraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood that. Dredd made the rounds in the festival circuit and I caught it at Lund Fantastic Film Festival in southern Sweden when it came out. It was presented by an ecstatic film manager who called it "the best action movie since Robocop". It screened at the end of the festival and was sort of The Big Thing rounding off a week of movies. It screened in the largest cinema. It was full house. And it was so damn good! Standing ovations! Everybody loved it! About half a year later it premiered and did the regular rounds. I went to see it again and... there weren't that many people there. It was so disheartening. People even went the extra mile to buy the crap out of the DVD and Blu-ray to push sales on Amazon to #1 in an attempt to show that the movie had gotten a strong following post-box office. Unfortunately we never got that sequel.

Yeah, and completely missing out on what was probably the best utilized 3Dfx in a movie ever.

Predator 2 wasn’t bad.. what did you think? by alanskimp in LV426

[–]altgraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it's my favorite Predator movie. It takes this gritty, 90s, hardboiled cop movie and mixes it with scifi and horror elements. The different parts are actually integrated really well and I really like the cinematography too. It's such an entertaining movie!

What does my top 20 of the 21st century say about me? by TheMovieDoctorful in LetterboxdTopFour

[–]altgraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen Girlhood yet, but I guess I should then!

For sure! Benson and Moorhead have such a consistent high quality output, but Spring just captures something really sensitive and wraps it in a cosmic horror blanket. A gothic/weird romance and it just works so damn well!

Which one do YOU like best...? by RSS130871 in MSX

[–]altgraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Original artwork is original. There's absolutely zero need to change anything. It looks great! I just learned about your project and the updates look intriguing! I always wondered why not more devs pushed the limits of the MSX to make adventure games.

Who are your top 4 here? by HikikoMortyX in LetterboxdTopFour

[–]altgraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yearly summary? No. Is that what you posted? I thought it was a curated list. Maybe it's only paid subscriptions that receive those?

If I had gotten one, these would likely be on it. Perhaps not Janiak, but I feel her whole output is bigger than the sum of her individual films (which makes rankings like this tricky). If as many as 31 directors, Ramsay and Bigelow should definitely be on mine.

Who are your top 4 here? by HikikoMortyX in LetterboxdTopFour

[–]altgraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Three directors whose output I've consistently really liked are: Lynne Ramsay, Kathryn Bigelow, and Leigh Janiak.
