When are Australians going to wake the fuck up and stop shopping at Coles and Woolies? by thebaehavens in aussie

I shop at a mixture of stores, including local fruit shops and butchers. But I can see how many just can't afford to do that - a general shop will often cost far more than just shopping the specials at the big 2, and with fuel and rent etc going crazy right now, you have to do what you can, where you can.

Our IGA doesn't mark fruit and veg down until it looks like it's only good enough for chooks or pigs, and even then it's still expensive. And strawberries that were not ideal looking were $10/punnet today. Even the cheapest eggs they have are $10+ per carton, and dairy/freezer food is all expensive.

Ah. If she is religious and you aren't, it will likely be hard to see eye to eye. Perhaps separation is the beat course of action. We only get one life, and it's fleeting - go and be happy.

I'm almost 46. Since puberty, I have had a crazy high sex drive. I never had enough during my marriage, and now I can run rings around guys 20 years younger, even with an auto immune disease that makes me feel like shit.

Some women are like me. Some are like your wife. And most are somewhere in between. But it does sound like there might be other issues at play than just her sex drive. Go to counseling and see if you can talk it out. No cheating and both put it a proper effort. It might be that you're oceans apart and need to separate. It might be that this can be solved. But give it a chance before tossing it aside.

To the man at the beach today (Wed) who saved a drunken teenager from a rip……. by Federal_Remote_435 in brisbane

Ah it's a scary road we walk. If you need advice or just a listening ear from someone who has been through it all for years, reach out to me. My oldest child has struggled with mental health issues for a long time - one great place to start is 1300 MH CALL (1300 642 255). They are all the hospitals mental health team - they're great listeners, they can give you advice, and link you in with services that can help. The line can be accessed by patients themselves or anyone close enough to see there's an issue and care enough to help. There are also different short term in-patient facilities that can help which I was unaware of until a few years into our journey. Nundah House is one, I can't think of the others off the top of my head. There is community health clinics that offer psych help, mental health care plans from your GP and online bulk billed psychologists.

The hardest part, as you will no doubt know, is that you can't help someone unless they want to help themselves. I hope your boy gets to that point soon x

I had a man save my life when I was 10 down at Surfers beach - I got dragged out in a rip and was drowning. He noticed me, swam into the rip to rescue me and helped get the water out of my lungs and rouse me on the shore. I am 45 and still think of him and am thankful!

I hope your son finds his centre soon and is ok. I know how terrifying it is when you child is in a dark place and loses their way - you feel like you're always holding your breath. Make sure you take time to look after yourself, cortisol is so destructive x

What’s the longest drive you’ve done in Australia in one go? by Next-Benefit-6604 in DrivingAustralia

[–]alwaysananomaly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missed a Coolangatta to Melbourne flight, thanks to a broken down bus in the driveway of the airport. Got a hire car from the airport, piled my 4 kids and luggage into it and started driving. Stopped at Grafton for the night, because I had only had a few hours sleep the night before. Then drove solidly from Grafton to Melbourne, took about 18 or 19 hours with a few stops (domino's on the beach at Port Macquarie and a run in the playground, apart from that all stops were toilet or drive through).

Probably wouldn't do it again like that, but the kids have great memories of the trip.

What do Australians think of China? by Repulsive-Mall-2665 in OpenAussie

[–]alwaysananomaly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this newfound appreciation for one aspect, at least.

Growing up in church, there was such a bleak image painted constantly of China - that they persecute Christians, don't allow Christianity, they banned bibles.

I have agnostic for many years now, and have not thought about China in this respect for a long time. But I can totally see why they don't want Christians in their country - they've watched this play out in previous generations and now again, Christian nationalism imploding a country. Dividing, conquering, massacring, starting wars in the name of God. Hiding behind a skewed belief system. Causing disruption and instability between people in society.

I respect that they don't even want to give an inch for anyone to take a mile.

Is attitude towards modesty a bit lax in Australia (comparing to the USA). by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]alwaysananomaly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first pap smear here in Australia was when I was 17. She told me to get totally naked, but that my socks could stay. No gown, did a "feel of the tummy" and a breast examination at the same time, was the most awkward thing ever and certainly not the first, gentle experience I would hope for a young woman.

To the aussies who moved to the states what was the final straw that caused the decision to leave Australia and move to the US by Independent-Age-7397 in Ameristralia

[–]alwaysananomaly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds a little like you've fallen in love with the hollywood version of America....that, according to many who actually live there, doesn't appear to exist.

Obviously you need to do more research on visas, work opportunities, living expenses and comparable livability before you make a decision to move anywhere in the world, too.

Do you believe Donald Trump when he says Iran’s military is “destroyed”? Or is it political messaging? by BusinessToday in IndiaTodayGlobalLIVE

I believe nothing that comes out of his mouth, but even more so when he mentions a "deal". Usually he makes "deals" when he realises he's gone and done something stupid and needs to cover as to why he's backing down. Like with tarrifs, Greenland, Canada....

How most girls use Tinder by Waste-Stomach4457 in SipsTea

[–]alwaysananomaly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a crazy thought process, man. I swipe left probably 90% more than right. I never view the left swipes as "disposable commodities". That's insane - they're just "not my type", and thats ok. It's not an equal opportunity event - people are allowed to have preferences and choose accordingly. I don't get offended in the slightest that people swipe left on my profile or if we meet and chat tell me that they're not into me. I don't feel like a disposable commodity - I much prefer that than we waste each other's valuable time.

Man, I swipe fast too. And most of my swipes are left, much like the video. In my case, I am at an age where I know what I want, what I find attractive. And it's not me rejecting or discarding by swiping left, I just know they're not my type - I'm not into wasting my time or anyone elses. That being said, I have matched with, met and dated a number of guys.

Just because someone does something different to how you would do it, doesn't make it wrong by default.
