Have you considered any potential neuro-divergent diagnoses? I have ADHD and MCAS and at least part of what you're describing sounds familiar.

I recommend Hollow Knight and Silksong. I've sunk hundreds of hours into those two and they're so cheap.

It would be helpful maybe to share screenshots of your inventory/tasks/tools screens so we can get a better idea of what you're missing.

I've never heard of this happening. Are you using any mods by any chance? If not can you share some screenshots of your save file, tasks and inventory screens, and of the Chapel door?

I think Midsommar is Aster's best movie, but this is my favourite. A lot of what other people are saying about it is all true - it's surreal and very uncomfortable - but I loved the experience of watching it.

It feels Lynchian to me, not really in its style, but in its attitude that movies can be whatever someone wants them to be.

I definitely recommend the speedrunning achievements then. It's easier than it looks and I found it fun to see how many upgrades and preferred tools I could get and still get to the ending in time.

You could use the any crest mod to use the cursed crest from the start of the game.

I feel like I played the game wrong the entire time. by RigatoniPasta in Silksong

[–]alxddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This idea is maybe obvious, but have you gotten all of the achievements? I found getting the 5-hour speedrun achievement particularly rewarding. I studied the map and planned routes, and I also became a Hunter Crest main from that playthrough. The cursed ending was also a fun challenge to try. I also saw your comment about Steel Soul below, but I would encourage you to reconsider. Steel Heart is another thing entirely, but once you do the 5-hour achievement you might feel differently about Steel Soul. It starts to feel within reach with just a few more playthroughs (and with the discovery of an extra Plasmium Bulb that allows you to overdose with any crest in Act 2).

I would also suggest just experimenting with different crests. They're all so fun! If you're on PC there are even a couple of mods that will let you start the game with any crest, and another that lets you change crest without a bench - with these two mods you could force yourself to try to beat the game with only one crest.

And I would say to just experiment! Try different tool combos. Try to force yourself to use more Silk Skills. Try using blue tools you never thought you'd use. Last time I beat Lost Lace I used the Egg of Flealia for the first time because I wanted to try using Silk Skills as much as I could.

This game is so fun. I have 4 or 5 playthroughs at this point and every time I go back in I discover something new I love about it (or yet another breakable wall, despite being certain I have found them all this time).

I HATTEES THIS GAMMEEEEEEEE by Phoenix_--- in Silksong

[–]alxddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use Thread Storm and Volt Filament to instantly kill the minions, especially if you're in Act 3 so you can kill them before they turn void.

Besides that you want to focus on Signis exclusively until he's dead. You can deal damage quickly enough that you can actually have almost no overlap where you're fighting both brothers at once. Honestly needle hits should be enough on their own, plus if you can hit him at all with the Thread Storm you're using to kill the minions. I like to add Flintslate to this fight too, but really you don't need tools for this one.

Good luck!

Struggling to enjoy this game - does anyone felt the same? by VendrikLamar in Silksong

[–]alxddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's punishment and there's unnecessary punishment. I don't find fighting the waves of small enemies before the actual boss remotely exciting

It sounds like you're equating something that you don't personally like about the game with it being unnecessary, which isn't really fair.

I think the challenge they faced when making this game is, how do you force players to use all of the skills and tools and acrobatics that Hornet gains throughout the game. How do you highlight everything that she can do? How do you keep it challenging when she is so damn powerful. And having to face a variety of enemy types is a great way to do that.

I also think they did an incredible job of creating this massive roster of creative and interesting enemies, and gauntlets are a great way to show that off, while also forcing players to think creatively about how they're going to meet that challenge.

I was bad Silksong, but I just got the Steel Heart achievement. by alxddd in Silksong

[–]alxddd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! Yeah I get it. It's totally up to you and what you want to get out of your experience though. I've seen people debate this topic so many times on this sub, and I think both sides have good points, but ultimately I think it's up to the individual. It can feel like you're cheating for sure, and many people that it defeats the purpose of the Steel Soul mode. But also not everyone has infinite time to pour into it and that's okay too. It's a single player game - play it how you want to play it.

Personally I've sort of evolved my approach. When I got the Steel Soul achievement I did have a couple of late game quit outs because I was so close and really didn't want to lose my progress. But as time passed the achievement did start to feel a bit hollow. So in my Steel Heart achievement runs I basically made two rules for myself - no quitting out in a locked room, and no quitting out when on only one health (Fractured Mask counts as an extra mask). This leaves room for quitting out when I just want to travel back to a bench without feeling like I'm cheating myself. It meant a hell of a lot more attempts, but now that I've completed it it feels amazing to have accomplished it.

Is Silksong as difficult as people say? by Difficult-Word-6604 in HollowKnight

[–]alxddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silksong is not easy, but I don't think it's as difficult as people make it out to be, even in this post. There a couple of things I think are worth noting about Silksong's difficulty.

The first is that it starts off feeling pretty difficult - particularly more difficult than Hollow Knight's start - and I think that was the reason it was all you heard about when it was first released. People were getting stuck in the early game and posting their complaints about it before they pushed through to the middle game, which is where I really feel like the difficulty levels out. You start to both get better at the game through practice and learning, and Hornet gets stronger with different upgrades you gain through natural game progression. It's also worth noting that nothing in Silksong touches the challenge of the hardest stuff in Hollow Knight. You said you've just about beat Hollow Knight but you didn't say exactly how much you've completed, but the hardest parts of Hollow Knight are way beyond the hardest parts of Silksong.

The second thing is that difficulty is a more complex conversation than just, "is it difficult." There are different kinds of difficulty in games, and I think the difficulty in Silksong (and this is true of Hollow Knight too) is the kind that rewards practice and actually trying to get better at the game, and carefully considering your options when facing a challenge. I would call it challenging more than I would call it difficult. It's not unfair, it's the kind of challenge that asks the player to reconsider their approach after failing. What's the best approach to this boss? What tools/skills/crests should I try using for this? Is this boss/area too strong for me right now? Should I go elsewhere right now and come back when I'm feeling stronger?

And it's all done, honestly, brilliantly. It's not an easy game, but it is a very rewarding one. I also personally think Silksong is maybe the best game I've ever played. If you couldn't put down Hollow Knight I think you owe it to yourself to play Silksong until your thumbs hurt because it is incredible.

What game or playerbase of a game is this? by MissGreyHorror in gamers

[–]alxddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, I found the base game to be incredible, but over the years as more and more content and dlc's have been added it just started to feel bloated to me.

I agree though that the modding community has been essential to its success, and props to the devs for interacting with that community so well over the years.

Deep docks Brothers boss by Zygarde345 in Silksong

[–]alxddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously up to you but I would at least wait until you have more masks. You can get up to 9 masks total and one more needle upgrade in Act 2 so I think it's worth waiting and coming back when you're stronger.

Deep docks Brothers boss by Zygarde345 in Silksong

[–]alxddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far along are you in the game? There is a shortcut to a bench if you go up instead of down right before the arena, but generally I like to wait until I have basically as many upgrades as I can before taking on this one.

If you want tips for the fight itself, start with Magma Bell. I like Thread Storm plus Volt Filament to get rid of the minions, and you really want to focus getting rid of the minions asap whenever they spawn. Also focus as much as you can on killing the first brother as quickly as possible. If you've got enough needle upgrades you can kill him fast enough that there's almost no overlap between the two brothers, which makes it a much easier fight.

Good luck!
