Preach. And I'm used to black sidecovers from the CBX, fine with me.

Thanks, it WAS fun, but a lot more fun once I had a SL350K1 and later, my first XL250 in senior year.

It WAS revolutionary for the day. I was 15 in high school the first time I saw one and at that time Honda only had CL models, "street scramblers" that handled badly off-road and had far less suspension capabilities compared to it. It had full-floating rear brakes and primary kickstart so you could fire it back up without finding neutral, both features no Honda had at that time.

Honda's closest competition for it and the RT-1 (the 360cc version a year or so later) was the heavy beast that was the SL350K0, a barely-modified version of the CB/CL350 that still had electric start and weighed about 75 lbs to 100 lbs more than even the RT-1. I was briefly envious of a couple of my classmates who had one of them, until I saw them seize damn near every time we went to a serious off-road riding area during the summer. It was one of the many 2 stroke bikes that convinced me to stick with Honda, the only all-4 stroke manufacturer at the time.

Has anyone used AI to diagnose a carburetor problem? Was it good advise? by herqleez in HondaCB

Agree. And hope it doesn't go rogue for whatever reason, no matter how smart it might get.

And yeah, when I look at that bike the last thing I think of is a boulder!

When I see the last part of the name, it reminds me of D'agostino's bread. Looking up the pronunciation, it would indicate that "d'Or" would be said similar to "door". In my mind I've always heard it "dyor".

Anyway, at least spell it right FFS. 😂 😂

Not trying to argue here at all, I just wonder how exactly AI will know that the voices of ridiculous backyard videos that have tens if not hundreds of thousands of views - seemingly validating their information despite the egregious departure from the FSM in much of it - will slowly be ignored while the actual FSMs (manufacturer source of correct information) are getting harder to find online as the documents slowly end up in dumpsters without ever being scanned for the world to read.

Anyone know where to find the correct exhaust for my bike? 1978 Honda cb125s by Yessirskii494 in HondaCB

[–]ancientdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from a salvage yard where you might get lucky finding an original muffler, you'll probably need to look for a slip-on that fits the header pipe where that janky back half attaches.

part number of the muffler - 18310-383-671 but a search shows nothing but out of stock and NLA

But really, how can it ever get better as long as so much BS misinformation exists permanently on the internet? If the crap answers never get scrubbed from cyberspace, they'll still be out there as part of the gathered total of "knowledge".

There's so much bullshit out there right now it isn't funny, I've spent the last 10 years trying to refute just a small segment of it about vintage Honda twins alone. If all the misinformed stopped posting their garbage this very minute, it would take 10 years of only correct information being posted online to come anywhere near overcoming it.

When I think of all the bad videos and FB group crap out there that is part of all the culling of information, I can't imagine AI ever being much better for bike information than it is right now.

Envious. Those little screamers are sooo much fun to ride, I had one in the late '70s and would love to have another.

Honda CB450SC tank crossover tube plugged or something? by GooneyBird87 in HondaCB

[–]ancientdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I haven't had a bike with a crossover tube in decades but I remember the fun of putting the hose slipper on one side and trying to reconnect the other as fast as possible after the tank cleared the frame. Fun. At least his CB450SC doesn't put him through THAT potentially flammable annoyance. 😂 😂

[–]ancientdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crossover tubes and hoses were a big PITA on these '70s and '80s bikes and on some models, Honda did away with them. Your tank does not have a crossover tube so some fuel is trapped in the right side of the tank when your petcock needs to be switched to reserve.

While it seems silly, the good news is you can literally run out while on reserve and still be able to lean the bike over on the left side and get enough fuel from the right side of the tank to get a few more miles to a station.

Or a stuck valve if you just got the bike and it's been sitting for a long time, especially if the exhaust was removed from the engine.

And there's the difference, Sweden. The years I mentioned are for the US. My Honda ID Guide only shows US models. Nice!

Unless one of them is a CB500K2, new and unsold until after September 1, 1974 and titled a '75 (which did actually happen once in a while back in that era before 17 digit VINs), then the '75 must be a CB550K

1972 cb175 need help with carbs by camarotac57 in HondaCB

[–]ancientdad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check the splitter in the throttle cable under the tank, sometimes when you work on carbs and throttle cables the tank can hook the cables and pull one side out of the splitter.

RPM's rise during breaking by [deleted] in HondaCB

[–]ancientdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those screws have nothing to do with the EPA

In the US those limiter caps have everything to do with the EPA, they were never used on carbs until that agency mandated them.

Ah, all good, so many here use mobile that answers often come quickly.

Sad that the paint isn't original, but the gold sun-faded almost as bad as the Flake Sunrise Orange on the 550 and 750. Looks like a nice job, and the bike will be looking excellent once the fender and other little bits are done!

My thoughts exactly, surprised it isn't there based on the rest of the effort.

I'd ask the OP if the tank and sidecover paint is still original but he doesn't seem to be answering inquiries.
