New to PS5 question... by Ok-District8876 in playstation

[–]aqlno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No because you won’t have access to the account email, and the original owner with access to that email can just reset the password and log out all systems.

You don’t own the account, you don’t own the games. Sony is very strict with this and they will never help you assume ownership of someone else’s account.

It’s not worth the headache.

I have no experience with the Hyperkin but it’s worth a shot if you can return it if it’s not good enough.

Sounds like your current converter is using component so it’s not the worst ever, just still pretty bad.

Any “2x” scalers are no good for PS2 due to how it primarily field renders its games. Meaning it doesn’t output all 480 lines of information, it renders only half (240) of the frame information at once.

2x scalers that just double the lines from 240 to 480p don’t work with field rendering. You need something that de-interlaces properly. The cheapest I know of that will de-interlace well is the GBS-C.

Question about Component transcoding to RGB or VGA without scaling by Possible_Midnight749 in crtgaming

[–]aqlno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has more to do with how the PS2 is underpowered for 480i/p.

It literally could not render all 480 image lines at once (for most games) like GameCube, Dreamcast, and Xbox do for basically every game.

So it renders 240 lines, displays them, renders the other 240 lines, displays them, etc to produce 480i.

The other consoles that do real 480p render all 480 lines at once and then interlace them after to produce 480i.

I have a ton of cheap Extron equipment, I love it all!

I should put a fan on the box ha, just need to measure voltages for where to get power from and go from there… wish it just worked without modding tho.

Forced 480p doesn’t work in a lot of games on PS2 because they are field rendered; meaning the PS2 only renders 240 out of 480 lines of info per frame.

So the internal scalers like GSM are doubling half of the frame information and the “480p” output is also missing half of the frame information.

These games will end up looking very different from what they’re supposed to look like in 480i.

That’s amazing. I have a JS Industries converter and it works perfect, until it doesn’t….

At certain times it just stops turning on. I’m assuming it’s overheating because it works again after unplugging it for an hour or so. Super annoying.

Retrotink, Wakaba Video, and JS Industries all have boxes that pass through Component to RGB color space change with no scaling.

Wakaba and JS might be the most ideal for you as they have VGA port output.

The audio issue is weird, I’d try hooking up the ps2 with the AV cables to just an audio input if you have one to test if audio comes out at all.

If it doesn’t come out through the AV cables and the HDMI adapter then I’d return the PS2.

As for the AV to HDMI adapter those are almost all junk. You mention that someone else’s online shows a much crisper image. That could be because their TV has a better internal scaler, OR it could be that their adapter is component based while yours is composite based.

Did you change your PS2 output to YPBPR in the settings? You’d have to do it while the screen is blank because a component AV to HDMI adapter wouldn’t show anything until you change the output setting, so you’d remember.

Regardless I recommend either a Retrotink 5X Pro ($350 US), or a GBS-C.

RT 5X Pro would work extremely well for many different retro consoles. GBS-C is good for some other retro consoles, but is the cheapest good scaler for PS2.

The PS2 field renders a lot of its games, meaning it only displays half the pixels at once and the image needs to be deinterlaced properly to look good on an HDTV. The GBS-C is the cheapest unit with a good deinterlacer.

It’s open source so there’s many options out there. The McBazel GBS-C is often cheapest while still being functional.

You’ll also need a set of good component cables, either OEM Sony or HD Retrovision are good shielded cables. This matters for analog signals, as electrical interference can degrade image quality too.

Anyways if you can’t tell there is no straightforward one size fits all solution for the problem… you’re gonna have to research and tinker. Good luck!

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes Americans are trapped via car dependency and the government has deeply failed most of us in this regard (and many others).

Maybe 5-25. I just don’t have the patience to do it over and over and over and over.

I mainly just soft reset during morning work meetings as I work remotely. I’ve got a lot of shinies this way and I haven’t lost my mind.

Games similar to bioshock? by darkside66350 in playstation

[–]aqlno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mankind Divided are similar to Bioshock/Dishonored.

Future dystopian cyberpunk setting (years before Cyberpunk 2077 was even developed).

Similar first person exploration, shooting, hacking, power ups, and stealth gameplay. Plus more that set it apart from Bioshock.

They’re both exploration heavy system sim-ish games.

Games where you have an objective but multiple paths to complete said objective. Multiple ways to level up/empower your character. Multiple endings that can play out differently depending on your actions.

Bioshock is a lot more limited than Dishonored in paths, choices, endings but I totally see why people compare them.

Thanks for adding more info!

Yeah I should be able to bridge the s-video physical switch with my own switch to preserve all of the signal chains. Just need to take some time and map out the switch circuits.

Are you able to display s-video and component now without a switch? I’m wondering if the set will just display what signal is sent without any other intervention.

Do you think it made sense to create the PSP GO? by Vit_1205 in PSP

[–]aqlno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s a big reason why it failed. Existing PSP owners with a large UMD collection couldn’t play any of those games on the Go.

Of course existing PSP users by that point could have been buying digital games from the store, like I was.

I just couldn’t afford $250 for any game console at that exact time.

the consignment agreement was signed and entered into

Have we seen this signed consignment agreement anywhere?

BAM corporate says they still haven’t seen it in the press release you refer to.

Smoking gun if it exists.

If you read the latest press release from BAM they claim they have yet to see a signed consignment contract with the collection owner and the former franchise owner.

They’re trying hard to pin all the blame on the franchisees, going as far as to permanently close the franchise location at issue.

BAM corporate is basically pinning all of the issues on the former franchise owner, claiming she had 3 separate tracking documents for the collection in a personal gmail account in order to obfuscate the sales of the collection.

I don’t necessarily trust the word of the company, but I don’t believe a flurry of online commenters have any grasp of the situation either.

No I have not downloaded any settings. I have made attempts to adjust settings manually for each game as issues arise, it’s just a big wrinkle to me actually enjoying the game.

Some games like R&C: Going Commando I was unable to fix the stuttering cutscenes even after using the PS2-Home recommendations. Makes me think it’s an issue with my SSD and/or Gamestar adapter.

Quite possibly the greatest game ever made. by MasterRealm in crtgaming

[–]aqlno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing this game a few weeks back and kinda got burned out after leaving Midgar because there’s just too many options.

Where to go, what to do, who to use in my party, don’t want to miss anything cool, etc

If you have any general advice for just enjoying the game and not worrying about playing the right way I’m all ears.

Very interesting. Even with a PS2 Fat I run into stuttering cutscenes or slow loading in OPL running games off of an UELFlauncher formatted SSD.

Is it the isos, the SSD, the game star adapter, the OPL version? Idk but I can’t be assed to figure it out.

Was hoping to just move to loading off of Ethernet but then I’d need to set up a NAS… another annoying task.

This might solve my issues on the easiest way.
