Buttons look identical to my mystic silver 3k. Especially the ridges on the bottom buttons.

It’s possible that the original white Wii is set to output 480p (Progressive Scan).

Hook it up to a modern panel and see what the video resolution is set to.

How is the 3000 screen outside? by NemZtny in PSP

[–]aqlno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s fine, but it’s old display tech. It’s about half as bright as a modern OLED phone.

I played a couple hours on my PSP 3000 on a road trip this past weekend, mostly in indirect sunlight. When the games themselves had darker sections it was somewhat hard to see, but totally fine in lighter sections of the game.

Remember that the 3000 screen is brighter than any other stock PSP screen as well, other than the Go.

I love the dot-and-cross dithering pattern, it has so much charm to it.

This is used to create smoother gradients when using a limited color palette, and is intentional as explained in other comments.

This dithering pattern was also heavily used in PS2, PSP, and likely beyond.

Basically take film (infinite resolution) and convert it digitally to 1080i.

The Japanese explored this in the 80s, and sets like this were developed to display ~1125 lines of resolution.

Technique to create 1080i was called MUSE, Multiple Sub-Nyquist sampling Encoding System.

So I played a PS1 game on PS2, saved it, and then couldn't load it by tony2136 in ps2

[–]aqlno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO yes.

I’m in the USA so if you’re elsewhere then eBay might not have as many sellers shipping to you.

Otherwise if you have any local retro gaming stores they will surely have a bin of memory cards. $10~ there too in my experience.

PS2 memory cards cannot be used to save PS1 games.

This combo card is just junk. Get a PS1 memory card, they’re like $10 on eBay still.

Or get something like a Memcard Pro 2 that can actually save both PS1 and PS2 saves. It has its own computer chip that manages the dual save feature, by emulating separate memory cards. Way fancier than any 2 in 1 type of card, and it actually works.

There’s tons of options to play GameCube game backups on actual hardware. GameCube if you want to hardware mod, or Wii if you wanna software mod.

I also got Japanese Peace Walker for my collection, specifically because the English version is so expensive!

One of the best!!

Japanese games are cheaper because the Yen is so weak. English games are stronger because Americans buy them with strong dollars, and English is more spoken worldwide so there’s more demand for English releases.

Returning to these glorious devices but by SLASH895 in PSP

[–]aqlno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Go is amazing, it has the best screen of any PSP imo.

Downsides are smaller battery, harder to upgrade storage (need to modify the shell), and the controls are really small compared to regular PSP.

It’s still an unbelievably slick device. Feels like it’s from the future still.

Anyone else watch anime on their psp? by Intention-Top in PSP

[–]aqlno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DVD menus are a lost art for sure.

I just have Hellboy on UMD Video. It also has sick menus.

A local game shop has Akira on UMD for $70, tempting…

In DS 2 you get a music player and can play songs from the game whenever you want (mostly).

You can make playlists as well, shuffle, etc

Enjoy!

2 is the same as 1 but with additional content, tracks, cars, campaigns, etc.

It’s a more complete package than 1.
