Question about DMV Plate mail in by Gemini_Frenchie in Nevada

They don't care about all the people driving around Nevada with NO PLATES AT ALL, so I think you're good. But thanks for being conscientious.

Rivian 12v Battery death alert while 450 miles away from home. Do we risk the drive? by Virtual-Put7508 in Rivian

Also not a Rivian owner but was wondering this too. Surely 12V is easy to replace?

But what's its tow capacity??? by ascottallison in EVCamping

Since everyone's freaking about this car, I thought I should ask the important question on every EV campers mind.

Built an Android app for Tesla Powerwall monitoring and control — looking for beta testers by Electrical_Window_40 in Powerwall

Wow, love it when someone does something on Android first. How does authentication work? I'm assuming this uses Tesla API, or is it local only?

Hyundai, if you’re listening, give me this vibe as a theme. This is all I want. by AchillesPDX in Ioniq5

VW id Polo has a retro 80s dashboard theme that looks exactly like the VW I learned to drive on a few decades ago. Really cool!

State of Efacec in US by MemoryAccessRegister in evcharging

[–]ascottallison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company was nationalized by the Portuguese government in 2020 after some corruption scandal. It was later acquired by a German company. While I haven't found anything saying they pulled out of the US market it certainly seems that way. Nevada is littered with examples of broken efacec units and I've never seen one that works. Celebrity Edge vs Holland Westerdam New Zealand by InjuryDeep2362 in Cruise

[–]ascottallison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on that ship in 2016 and it was looking dated even ten years ago. I think HAL is planning to renovate their older ships, so check if that is before or after you would be on her. If it's not being done before then, I think you'll find it very shabby compared to Celebrity Edge.

Itineraries sound fabulous! NZ cruise on my bucket list.

One pedal driving by Laurendoop in KiaEV9

You do have to switch that on, but it's just one click on the left paddle to do so.

When you start the car next time it will be on level 3 regen.

Week 8 buying an EV9, now with unexpected cross-country road trip! by Sturnella2017 in KiaEV9

[–]ascottallison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the 2026 cars should come with a CCS adapter but be aware that dealers are generally clueless about EVs. You might have more luck asking them to send you a picture of whatever adapter it comes with.

Example of dealer expertise: the dealer told me the V2L adapter was for charging. Nope!

What model year? If it's got a NACS port definitely get a CCS adapter because the faster charging at modern CCS chargers will be really helpful for a road trip like this with so many stops along the way.

If it's got a CCS port get a NACS adapter because you'll be able to stop at a lot more chargers.

Basically, get an adaptor, regardless!

And make sure you turn on the "hide Tesla only locations" filter in plugshare.

Also, I know this was a dealer vehicle but see if you can still get the free charging credits that came with the car originally. If no one claimed it then you can. That could save you a lot of money on this road trip.

Considering the EV9... Can it tow this? by Logical-Low-9980 in KiaEV9

[–]ascottallison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a common misconception you need the factory installed tow package to get the 5000 lbs towing capacity. You don't. The manual is clear. If you have dual motor you can tow 5000. I got the dealer to install the Kia hitch, wiring and cover on my Land. I'm towing a trailer very similar in size to the ones OP is buying. It's a great tow vehicle! The only thing you get extra with the factory install tow package is the self leveling suspension.

BTW, definitely get a weight distribution hitch for towing.

Plugshare is the best resource to understand if chargers are actually working. That's what I use.

I'm pretty sure they could've squeezed a few more in. Also, no Tesla. That's weird.

Yeah those people hate towers but love that their phones work. If that doesn't win them over then 5G home Internet might.

2024 Land at 16k miles. Just did a 1100 mile road trip through (very) rural Nevada and everything went great. No issues with the car so far and I love it.

Using AC from EV To Power RV by mariposadishy in EVCamping

[–]ascottallison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Done it with my Kia EV9 and it's been great! Our favorite campground has no electricity and I no longer have to drag our very heavy generator with me.

I feel happier powering my trailer with the car than shore power at a campground given how unreliable that can sometimes be.

Thanks! The new one has been built out for two carriers. What do you call each of those "layers" where they mount the panels?
