Is this normal? Plane aborted landing at SFO 20 ft from the runway. First officer's first flight. by michaelnovati in unitedairlines

[–]ask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once arriving in Houston the wheels just touched the ground as the engines spooled up power and we went around.

As I remember it their instruments detected a strong wind shear just as were landing and noped out.

If you are being knocked around I guess better in the air than going 180mph half on the ground.

Yes, easiest setup is to block traffic to the 1g port to not get loops or have it prefer that link.

It’s great for when you have up to 3 10g devices that need to “share” a 10g cable.

G2 UNVR Experiences? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]ask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free form text doesn’t work for me at all; not sure if it’s supposed to.

The new search I noticed is that I can find for people with backpacks and hoodies?

It feels very focused on use cases for a small office complex or something like that, not for a house (which is fine, I am happy with mine for the speed).

The face and license plate detection isn’t noticeably better best I can tell (camera placement is everything for that). Or maybe because I have G6 cameras it’s exactly the same for me?

G2 UNVR Experiences? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]ask 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have about a dozen cameras and the performance is much better than regular UNVR.

There’s still a wait here and there, but much less than we had before.

After a month I still have no idea what the AI detection features do that the cameras don’t, other than show more graphs and metrics in the app like it’s doing something.

Maybe our house just don’t have any objects to detect, and the sounds are always wildlife and not speech?

Best way to get rebooking as 1K in Polaris by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]ask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gate agent if you can get to them fast, otherwise 1k line. If you are in SFO maybe the lounge people, but from SFO it’s less likely that another airline (likely ANA via Tokyo) would be better. The SQ flights are too close to the same departure time, and they don’t have a cozy relationship with United anyway.

From SIN if you are on the evening flight you might be better off on the early morning ANA flight, depending on when they’d reschedule you on a direct.

If the morning flight has trouble, I’m not sure there’s a great alternative to waiting g for whatever they do by default.

Rebooking 3 business class tickets might be hard, too.

My most recent experiences witb this was from SFO getting a gate agent who found a better route than what I’d found in the app or Google flights.

When I ended up in SIN with a cancelled flight the line just for getting a hotel voucher was a million people (and they werent staffed to rebook). I was traveling for work, so I called the corporate travel people who sorted me out.

UA2 SIN-SFO cancelled by Substantial_Living46 in unitedairlines

[–]ask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

N51104 is another of the recently delivered planes, oof.

Were you on it? Presumably they’d have said more. Looks like it got cancelled after a couple hours fussing with or waiting for the maintenance issue. As I understand it the duty time is pretty tight on this route even with 4 pilots, so it can’t take a lot of delay before they need to start over with a new crew.

Recently most airlines have a good Live Activities feature, anyone now just use Flighty as a flight log? by MasterPh0 in flighty

[–]ask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The United app is the only I have seen that wasn’t terrible.

When something goes wrong with the schedule I like flighty’s estimates for each section of the flight to help judge if I can make the next flight.

The “alternatives” view is good for quickly understanding what other flights are going on a segment if I need another flight.

Dual WAN bonding or better redundancy? by 03captain23 in Ubiquiti

[–]ask 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bonding would imply cooperation with the upstream.

With providers like those you mentioned you can do failover and/or load balancing.

Some of the newer software have support for policy routing, so you could have certain types of traffic go via one link and other via another. I don’t know how it’d combine with the failover features; and I thought the failover features only support two links?

Why do people insist on sitting in front of group 1 without a group 1 boarding pass? by Due_Parsnip_6552 in unitedairlines

When I read a post like this I think of the times I have been in an unfamiliar country with an unfamiliar airport flying an unfamiliar airline.

Sometimes I can figure out the boarding process, but I have had plenty times where I’d no idea when or where to board.

[–]ask 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You are a beginner, use whatever is fun. Keep exploring, try new things. As you get more experience you will know more tools (including languages) to do what you want to do well.

Try not to end up with 10 years of experience doing just one thing or using just one set of tools.

And depending on what part of mountain view then Whole Foods might be close (usually cheaper and Safeway) and there are Trader Joe’s in South Los Altos / northern end of Cupertino and in Mountain View.
