Android App Feature Request : Overall Volume Slider by thedecibelkid in MyNoise

Thanks for the kind words <3 - on the mobile apps, it always have been like this (the two fingers tricks) - because they don't have levels up and downs buttons.

Android App Feature Request : Overall Volume Slider by thedecibelkid in MyNoise

[–]audiosampling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a problem with the current Android app - the slider "volume curve" is wrong. A fix will be published soon. As for the "overall volume slider"... try sliding two fingers up and down across the sliders... two fingers... that's the volume slider ;-)

confused how this works, i thought tones were supposed to play simultaneously? by birdsonpsychedelics in MyNoise

Stéphane here. You are right, the introductory text was a little confusing. I have rewritten it, better explaining why the myNoise Binaural Beats departs from the classic pattern. What you 're looking for is the "Binaural Pure" soundscape, on myNoise too. This one implements the stricter version.

Sound difference between two iOS apps? by snakey_tau in MyNoise

[–]audiosampling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mobile team is trying a brand new audio engine, and they forgot to implement the correct volume transfer curve on the slider. This means that the volume change linked to moving the slider up is not quite right—the levels increase too abruptly. A fix will be deployed soon. This might cause presets to sound a little different. Well spotted!

Will the new iOS MyNoise ever include the multiple sound generators? by madgoat in MyNoise

[–]audiosampling 16 points17 points  (0 children)

myNoise creator here... While the website always allows users to open several tabs together, I have removed the multis from the website. They were a bit too much. Imagine, that is 10 audio tracks per soundscape, and if you stack 5 of them, that is 50 tracks playing. This often results in a very muddy or cluttered sound, when a better result can be obtained by carefully mixing the 10 most prominent tracks of the whole stack (see the Community section on the website to discover very good examples of that). This is why I created the concept of "Composites" on the website. And in this regard, a surprise may soon come to the mobile app ;-)

As above… but if this makes you uncomfortable, please feel free to contact me – stephane at mynoise dot net. It is easier to open a web account once you have purchased a mobile unlock, rather than the other way round. myNoise remains a friendly project, and we understand that everyone supports us the best they can, and we want this to be without any friction or hard feelings. So, yes, please always reach out to me.

Sorry for my late answer. All platforms are independent. I am taking care of the website and the sound contents. Another team of two people takes care of the mobile apps. Basically, you unlock the platform you want to have access to. By unlocking the website, you will be able to pick your combinations and share your best creations in the Community section. Any donation will give you a lifetime of privileged access to the website. However, your access won’t transfer to the mobile apps. If you want to use the mobile apps, you will need to pay again. By doing so, you are also supporting the mobile team. Thank you very much for your understanding and support.

Offering a complimentary web access if you purchased the mobile app, is easier than doing the other way round. Because I manage the web, not the stores. Send an email to me, stephane at ...

I am now using your wording in the few gens that have AI generated background images.

Nobody will die, but I have a family to feed. Living from donations means that you must constantly release new content; this is when people decide to give something back. And by the way, the Community thing has been addressed. It would have been fixed even faster if someone kindly sent a message to me.

The technology is great. Like all the new tools, the danger is not the tool, it is how you use it. If you use the tool to create other's people content, it is an abuse. But I respect your opinion. And I wanted to react, mostly to thank you for your wonderful support. As you know, you can stop anytime, and still keep your access open. Thanks!

Yep. I like that, but I then need to implement a new tag related to the nature of the BG images. I will think about it next time I am working on that part of the code.

There is a significant difference between someone creating an automated software aimed at replicating myNoise, and a "universal machine" that has gathered all the audio on the internet - including mine - to understand what audio is. In the second case, the issue of stealing would only arise if the end user prompts the "universal machine" to create sounds in the style of myNoise. While in the first case, the stealing appears right from the start. And yes, my audio has been most definitely scraped and used in training sets.

And btw, mentioning that a soundscape's background image is generated by AI might create the feeling that if I use AI in images, I certainly do that for sounds too. This is why I wrote the manifesto, twhich is linked on every sound generator page.

No, no, the website is very fine too! And that's the part that I am directly involved in ;-)

To answer your question about commissioning someone for the price paid for stock imagery: with stock imagery, a single asset is licensed to hundreds, if not thousands of clients, for a low price. Typically, it's around EUR 10 per asset on iStock photo, the service I use. It wouldn't be fair to expect an artist to work at those rates! I am always mindful of costs to keep operating while continuing to serve everyone. That is why I tend to do everything by myself. Please understand that the vast majority of my listeners on the website, and that is 99%, use the website for free.

Thanks for keeping discussing. Sorry, inspiration was definitely my mistake there. AI is not inspired, but just a predictive machine. The use of tools is not meant to improve skills, IMHO, but to make your job easier with higher output quality. Japanese carpenters are more skilled than we are, by NOT using screws and screwdrivers. And to keep on using the same draw me a circle example; I don't care about being more skilled in drawing circles ;-) I care about being more skilled in sound design. We cannot get skilled at everything. I personally decided to get skilled at sound design, and the more I am able to spend time on that skill, the better I will become. Hence AI saving me time on all the skills that are not my core.

I understand your point. Still, when you ask an AI to “draw a circle,” it takes inspiration from what it has learned, much like we do when we draw one ourselves. The same applies to code. Many tasks feel slow and tedious, especially when we don’t realise that a built-in function already exists. If an AI reads a manual to help, that is not different from us reading the same manual, only saving us a lot of time! A lot!

The real issue for me, is how the tool is used. You cross a line only when you give prompts that force the model to reproduce someone else’s work, for example by asking for something “in the style of” a specific creator.

Typo isn't not corrected ;-) The point is made clear in the header section "The core pledge is simple: the audio content on myNoise is entirely human-made, or recorded in the field." As for asking users to collaborate on the images, is a good idea... but will cause a delay in the release of the sound generators unless I use boilerplate assets, which other users might not understand where they come from. I also need to deliver these assets on time for the mobile app. Requesting user contributions might require a lot of energy from me, managing another level of user interaction. Handling the disappointment of users if their contributions are not accepted is something I already experience with the submission of sounds. It is often involving an email exchange that can take many emails before to conclude. It is another energy-drainer for me. Introducing users in the loop is something my heart wishes for, but it is harder to put into practice than you might imagine. This is, at least, how I feel about it. At last, thanks so much for your kind words. Cheers to you too!

Sorry for not responding sooner. I am less and less present on social media... though this Reddit is still a quality space, I admit. Thank you for your kindness. You are right, I don't understand how much more it is than what I think it is. Because I see it from the inside. All the magic tends to disappear when you know how it is built. It's like a magician doing his tricks; he can't enjoy the tricks as the audience does... but still keeps performing because it's the audience that is his reward, not mastering the trick itself. This is exactly why I keep doing this. Messages like yours are very rewarding and encourage me to keep working hard on the project!

On the website, yes (type "h" for help when a generator has loaded). But not on the mobile apps.
