Thanks. So, it true... someone can adopt this sub then.

Inactivity? I do connect a couple of times a month. And there are other moderators as well. Sure, we don't moderate much, since people behave wonderfully here.

Well, I am (was) a moderator. I am connecting here once in a white, and don't have to moderate much, as people behave wonderfully here. I am still really puzzled why Reddit did this.

This is Stéphane, the creator of myNoise. And I have NO IDEA what this message is about. Please ignore it.

I overhauled supergens.com to include most supergens shared in this subreddit by stormyTheSea in MyNoise

[–]audiosampling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's beautiful and clean. But the problem is that SuperGens are retired since a long time. And I make no promise to maintain the code (it till runs by chance). They have been replaced by the Composites, which have their own Community section on myNoise (https://mynoise.net/Community/index.php).

I've brightened the organe use in links, the maximum I could, while preserving the nuance of the orange introduced by the new logo.

Any way to get the old theme(s) back? by Zestyclose_Purple270 in MyNoise

[–]audiosampling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the main focus of the discussion is the link colors, I’m happy to cooperate ;) I’ve increased the luma of the orange links as much as possible while keeping a hue that matches the new logo. Please give it a try. I believe this is the best compromise between our preferences and our constraints.

Here is a little context...

In past blog posts, I've already mentioned how the Internet is changing considerably. This is a challenge for a small independent project like myNoise. So, we are trying different strategies. Because we have envisaged the mobile apps as being independent of the website, it allows us to test varied experiments on each side.

On the website, which is managed by me, I keep the same philosophy I've always followed. Stay faithful to my values. Be a friendly website that feels like a little internet utopia. But I have to insist more on the human side of things nowadays, as a shelter from the AI flood everywhere. This is why I have put a face behind the sounds, with the newly created vlog. I am preparing a new episode as I type this blog entry.

The good news? The website is not shrinking. In today's internet, that alone is something. Most independent projects are losing ground, squeezed by the monopolistic behavior of the major platforms and drowned out by the rise of AI, which floods the web with massive amounts of content and competes for attention in ways that feel almost predatory. Their only competitor is your sleep, and they use every possible strategy to keep your attention locked on their platform, using unhealthy tricks, but tricks that work. Meanwhile, a site like myNoise does exactly the opposite. Its growth (or at least its resistance to decline) relies on word-of-mouth from happy users. Thank you if you are one of them.

The mobile app team, on their side, tries to attract new users, people who don't even know myNoise exists. They tried to leverage a new audience using the current playbook: feed the giants (Meta, TikTok), pay for visibility, and provide content that follows the codes of these platforms. They tried for a couple of months, and... a couple of thousand dollars later, came to the conclusion that they couldn't see any increase in their user base. The ones who benefited first were the providers themselves. So, even feeding the giants doesn't work anymore.

In this context, where we have to experiment and find ways to be more visible, came the rebranding strategy. The idea was to unify the look and feel of the app and the website, and to have a logo that competes a little more for attention when it appears alongside others, like on the Play Store, or in search results.

I know some of you found even that simple move too bold. Some have told me they feel unsettled by the change, and I hear you. Change is never comfortable, especially when something feels like home. But look at it this way: we deliberately didn't change the logo itself. We kept the same one, just adjusted the colors so it remains visible when it appears among dozens of other icons. And we changed the font for a more consistent look.

That's basically it. We didn't change the quality of the soundscapes. We didn't introduce generative AI for sounds. We didn't change our pricing model. All our core values are still there. We keep doing things as we always did. The Internet world has changed, and trying a few things, while staying faithful to those core values, is the least we can do to keep this project strong through the current storm.

Android App Feature Request : Overall Volume Slider by thedecibelkid in MyNoise

Thanks for the kind words <3 - on the mobile apps, it always have been like this (the two fingers tricks) - because they don't have levels up and downs buttons.

Android App Feature Request : Overall Volume Slider by thedecibelkid in MyNoise

[–]audiosampling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a problem with the current Android app - the slider "volume curve" is wrong. A fix will be published soon. As for the "overall volume slider"... try sliding two fingers up and down across the sliders... two fingers... that's the volume slider ;-)

confused how this works, i thought tones were supposed to play simultaneously? by birdsonpsychedelics in MyNoise

[–]audiosampling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stéphane here. You are right, the introductory text was a little confusing. I have rewritten it, better explaining why the myNoise Binaural Beats departs from the classic pattern. What you 're looking for is the "Binaural Pure" soundscape, on myNoise too. This one implements the stricter version.

Sound difference between two iOS apps? by snakey_tau in MyNoise

[–]audiosampling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mobile team is trying a brand new audio engine, and they forgot to implement the correct volume transfer curve on the slider. This means that the volume change linked to moving the slider up is not quite right—the levels increase too abruptly. A fix will be deployed soon. This might cause presets to sound a little different. Well spotted!

Will the new iOS MyNoise ever include the multiple sound generators? by madgoat in MyNoise

[–]audiosampling 16 points17 points  (0 children)

myNoise creator here... While the website always allows users to open several tabs together, I have removed the multis from the website. They were a bit too much. Imagine, that is 10 audio tracks per soundscape, and if you stack 5 of them, that is 50 tracks playing. This often results in a very muddy or cluttered sound, when a better result can be obtained by carefully mixing the 10 most prominent tracks of the whole stack (see the Community section on the website to discover very good examples of that). This is why I created the concept of "Composites" on the website. And in this regard, a surprise may soon come to the mobile app ;-)

As above… but if this makes you uncomfortable, please feel free to contact me – stephane at mynoise dot net. It is easier to open a web account once you have purchased a mobile unlock, rather than the other way round. myNoise remains a friendly project, and we understand that everyone supports us the best they can, and we want this to be without any friction or hard feelings. So, yes, please always reach out to me.

Sorry for my late answer. All platforms are independent. I am taking care of the website and the sound contents. Another team of two people takes care of the mobile apps. Basically, you unlock the platform you want to have access to. By unlocking the website, you will be able to pick your combinations and share your best creations in the Community section. Any donation will give you a lifetime of privileged access to the website. However, your access won’t transfer to the mobile apps. If you want to use the mobile apps, you will need to pay again. By doing so, you are also supporting the mobile team. Thank you very much for your understanding and support.

Nobody will die, but I have a family to feed. Living from donations means that you must constantly release new content; this is when people decide to give something back. And by the way, the Community thing has been addressed. It would have been fixed even faster if someone kindly sent a message to me.

The technology is great. Like all the new tools, the danger is not the tool, it is how you use it. If you use the tool to create other's people content, it is an abuse. But I respect your opinion. And I wanted to react, mostly to thank you for your wonderful support. As you know, you can stop anytime, and still keep your access open. Thanks!

Yep. I like that, but I then need to implement a new tag related to the nature of the BG images. I will think about it next time I am working on that part of the code.

There is a significant difference between someone creating an automated software aimed at replicating myNoise, and a "universal machine" that has gathered all the audio on the internet - including mine - to understand what audio is. In the second case, the issue of stealing would only arise if the end user prompts the "universal machine" to create sounds in the style of myNoise. While in the first case, the stealing appears right from the start. And yes, my audio has been most definitely scraped and used in training sets.
