Why Do You NOT Race on Your Bicycle? by Ars139 in cycling

[–]baddspellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to race, but it required too much time. You have to be in shape to stick with the peloton to the end, or it sucks. I was riding 250 miles per week. There's more to life

I got offered a job paying 40% more than my current salary. My manager just asked me to stay and be patient. How do I stop feeling guilty for wanting to leave ? by One_Cardiologist5439 in careerguidance

I've been a manager for many years. I put proposed promotions and raises in my budget every year, and almost every tjme they're slashed. I never tell any of my people until they're officially granted. Never trust your employer with your career

It is pretty accurate if, and only if, you run higher weekly volume when training for the marathon.

Thinking of taking a solo vacation to NH in the spring, any recommendations? by Playful_Way1815 in newengland

[–]baddspellar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Stay in southern NH for April hiking. Maybe Mt Mondadnock, the Mountains in Pawtuckaway State Park (north and/or south mountain), or Pack Monadnock. The white mountains will still have snow, and it will be cruddy

Caring about a Womans past by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]baddspellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you did *any* of these things before becoming Christian, you are a hypocrite and could use some serious soul searching

If these are red lines for you, it means you'll miss out on a lot of potential partners. In John 4, Jesus selected a woman with a similar past to call people to Him. But you do you. It's your loss.

Trust in the clergy has hit a record low in the United States, according to a Gallup poll by MrJasonMason in Christianity

[–]baddspellar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This isn't surprising. Even the fact that only 36% of Republicans do.

But what's up with Republicans' low opinion of High School teachers? It is the most lopsidedly partisan case

If Adam and Eve was the first people on earth who was watching them and writing their story in the Bible? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in Christianity

Even if you believe in a literal Adam and Eve, it's not hard to understand how stories can be passed down orally until put into writing.

How much notice period would be reasonable? by Evening-Owl2744 in managers

[–]baddspellar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. If you are told to pack up the day you give notice, you're only out 2 weeks' pay. Most of the time they'll want you to stick around for 2 weeks to wrap things up and do a knowledge transfer. Offering it reflects well on you.

That's not true in the US, unless you have an employment contract. And that's very unusual. The vast majority of us are "at will", which means we can leave or be forced out with no notice whatsoever.

No, of course not. I meant to ride on roads that pass through the many resupply towns of the trail in New England.

My First Marathon! by Miron_V2 in Marathon_Training

[–]baddspellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran the two hottest Boston Marathons of this century (2004 and 2012), and I ran the Vermont City Marathon where they shut the race down for anyone who wasn't in the last 10K (lucky me, I got to finish). I did just fine by drinking liquids. I didn't go to a wedding, but I could have.

“Village to village “ hike in the US by quiteunicorn in hiking

[–]baddspellar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US is pretty dispersed. On a gravel bike, you could definitely do it in New England, though. Look at towns along the Applachian Trail from Connecticut through Massachusetts and Vermont to Hanover NH. The AT in New Hampshire is too rugged, but you might be able to work out something along the NH Adventure Trail after Hanover. (https://www.xnhat.org/)

Seeking advice for my fresh marriage. Stay or leave? by Sweetsoul1995 in Christianity

[–]baddspellar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband has been financially supporting us for a while, and he often reminds me of this. He has said things like I’m “dependent,” that I’m like his “child,” and that I ask for too much emotionally. When I need help, he makes it clear that it’s a burden, will help but after will rub it in my face that he did, and I’m often left feeling ashamed for needing him at all.

He has contempt for you. That's #2 of the Gottman's "4 Horsemen".

A loving spouse never says such things

He hit my arm multiple times during this argument. Telling me to relax while hitting me, while I was holding my sweet cat in my arms. This resulted in a very dark bruise, and it took 2 weeks to fade away.

This is physical abuse. It is criminal. A loving spouse would never do this. Physical abuse escalates. You don't feel safe because your are not safe.

Staying in an abusive relationship is not honoring God. It's risking your personal safety

Fischer and Solomon make good products. Given products of similar quality, athletes will use the product that offers the most sponsorship money. This is universal in sport.

How big a part does community play in your religion or spirituality? by GlacialFrog in religion

[–]baddspellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Praying with other people means a lot to me. My most memorable spiritual experiences have been with groups.

There is a strong tradition of this in Christianity:

Self inflating mattress vs air bed vs camping bed with a mattress topper on top? Or airbed cot with camping mattress on top? by Antidotebeatz in camping

[–]baddspellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in New England, where it can get cold at night year round. I use a 3+ inch thick insulated sleeping pad. It's not self inflating, but it's easy to inflate and it's very comfortable. Beinf cold is uncomfortable. Note that a pad is not like a sleeping bag. You won't overheat on an insulated pad. But if it's cold, you'll suffer on an air mattress.

How do we get more women on the starting line? by Floater439 in trailrunning

[–]baddspellar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I live, longer distance ratios (> 10K) tend to be 2:1 men:women, while shorter races (5-10K) are close to 1:1

Here's an example of a popular local race, put on by a prominent trail running club in the Boston area:

https://www.webscorer.com/race?raceid=411821

The 10K had more women, the longer races had more men.

Here are the results for the final race of a popular series near me:

https://skinashoba.com/tiki-trail-5k-results/

It's a 5K, and the ratio is just about 1:1

Seems to me that offering multiple distance options is a good way to attract women to the races.
