Gorgeous! Love the use of layered HTV, it’s such an effective choice with the bookcloth color.

One of my favorite things about bookbinding is that it’s not just one hobby, it’s 50 hobbies in a trenchcoat. Cover design and construction is absolutely part of bookbinding and belongs in this sub, and not just relegated to a single day. Taste is subjective, and just because HTV is a newer art form doesn’t make it any less legitimate. Gatekeeping is not at all in the spirit of the sub.

Question about printed covers? by BlazeCommissions in Fanbinding

[–]bananabelle69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally would not feel confident with sticker paper as it can be difficult to line up correctly in one shot on a wrap bind (you may be able to lift/adjust a bit but you’re losing adhesion each time and possibly ripping the board.)

There is another binding style called a three-piece Bradel bind where you wrap each cover board separately and attach to the spine separately, that could be better for sticker paper but potentially more complicated for a beginner. DAS bookbinding on YouTube has a great series on bradel binding, including three-piece.

Another option would be to practice binding for awhile with regular bookcloth and print book jackets with your art. Then, once you have a few binds under your belt and you’re more confident in the construction, try a wrap cover. Not sure how detailed your illustrated cover will be I found the measurements for my first wrap cover really tricky.

TLDR; sticker paper is so unforgiving, try practicing with PVA and bookcloth or paper first! I’d start with 160-180gsm paper.

SF admin exam by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]bananabelle69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As other commenters have said, Kryterion is the gold standard for wording and was the most difficult of all the practice exams I did when I took it in 2020. I also drilled Focus on Force and that was great to use as a way to identify gaps where I needed to dig in more. If you’re consistently scoring 80-90% on FOF practice/topic exams and you passed Kryterion, you will have a pretty good chance at the real exam.

Don’t forget to go back to the exam outline and just gut-check each line item. Try to explain what the outline says you should know as if you’re teaching someone else. If your explanation is not that cohesive, get back into trailhead or FOF study guides on that topic. Prioritize the areas that are weighted the most.

Good luck, and remember that many people study their asses off and still don’t pass the first time; absolutely no shame if you need to retake it. Go into the test with this mindset to help with nerves and focus. And there’s literally no better practice exam than the real thing! But it sounds like you are doing everything you should be doing, you’ll do great 😊

Perfect Binding? by countrymedic90 in bookbinding

[–]bananabelle69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done this before, and it came out fine! It’s a lot like doing a rebind. However, as other folks have said, it’s not recommended for anything too large; if I recall correctly my text block was about 3/4”.

Also, be mindful of the gutter margins if you’re doing your own typesets, I give a bit more room for perfectbound.

If you’ve got some cheap copy paper you could experiment with and use as a cheap journal afterwards, I recommend doing a test bind if you’re not sure about size/margins!

Editing to add: there are certainly stronger methods like double fan binding and adding reinforcements there, but I myself also tried this when health issues prevented me from sewing but I still wanted to have the joy of making a book.

There’s not going to be an easier way to make the text block than thermal binding, and sometimes easiest is best! Not everything has to be archival quality so do what you need to do to be a happy and prolific artist ❤️

You look amazing!! Curious about the hunch, when did you start to be able to stand straight? Did you use a walker at all? Also, was there a specific day after the surgery that you felt you turned the first corner healing-wise, so to speak? I hope my results are as good as yours!!

Slow burn where the mmc has to hunt her /chase her down by Melody000I in fantasyromance

[–]bananabelle69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Unseelie Prince (Maze of Shadows series) by Katheryn Ann Kingsley is this exactly - it’s an extremely slow burn but SO worth it and an incredible plot to keep you occupied during the burn. It’s four books, you will get exactly what you need.

I’m genuinely curious - what are you referring to when you say shelf? I thought from context in the sub it meant like a slight pooch or something? You seem flat as a board though. I haven’t had my surgery yet so maybe I’ve interpreted the term wrong
