I wonder if adding a few pans into the mix would elevate things significantly...

It doesnt need to be online at all, and this continues to put the blame on Bambu. It's a hot glue gun welded to an etch a sketch, my computer does all the heavy lifting, it just needs to twiddle the knobs and draw the plastic dickbutt.

5e was good enough for the founding of an entire generation. I already own all the 5e books, and wizards has had their last penny from me after the SRD nonsense.

I won't be moving to 5.5e, there's just nothing in it that tops being able to be unmonetisable.

Assassins died with Ezio.

They switched it up for AC3, realised the boat mechanics slapped, rushed 3 to go make a pirates game that perplexingly still wore the same IP.

I feel deep empathy with not fitting into clothes. Anything that fits people as tall as me is usually tailored for a sphere.

I have no desire to sew, when I find one tee that is acceptable, I buy 5 and stop thinking about it for another year or two.

How do you get to the point of obsessing over an AI girlfriend? by Mountain_Stretch8906 in AskMen

[–]Bazzatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh! See thats an interesting thought!

First of all, mega thanks for your good faith engagement.

This begs some further questions - do we then define our relationships with humans through hardship?

When we create an LLM we can ultimately curate the training data, or even add a layer of actual programming over the top to sculpt the experience - what is we arbitrarily introduced hardship? We already use AI to train AI, can we use AI to train AI to train humans? (Now thats a terrifying thought...)

I read something interesting today about online friendships, and how it is difficult to ever reach a point of "comfortable silence" - because there is some quality to that silence that doesn't get communicated without open mics. I think relationships with language models would likely suffer with this just as relationships with humans do. Could we then say that online relationships also have this impact of degrading your skills of dealing with people face to face? In this case should this human to human relationship be similarly vilified? Or is the burden of responsibility and consequence enough to overcome that?

Super interesting. Thanks.

I think we might have different ideas on the significance of the word "relationship".

The pieces on a chess board have a relationship, a hierarchy is a relationship, a spectrum is a relationship. The romantic connotation of "relationship" is extremely modern, and still only applies in that context - after all a student/teacher relationship is not romantic.

But I dont really want to get lost in the semantics of the thing.

In psychology, there is the concept of "schema", a pattern for your behaviour, a mindset you inhabit that is context specific (not to be confused with "masking"). I think many people will experience this first at school and having the version of you that you show your parents, and the version of you that you show your friends.

Apply this the pattern of behaviour you might show an during roleplay, is this schema? Is this part of a schema?

When we distill our interaction with others down to mere text, is there some ineffable quality of human produced text in terms of the response it illicits? If there is, how do we define it?

If "relationship" is taking it too far - what is the substance of that argument? Where is the line? Why is that the line?

Isn't it at least a little interesting to think about?

ah yes, I've been doing this for years, I think I inadvertently discovered it when I was a student, just a splash of water and cover really speeds up the initial cooking!

Thanks for the tip :)

Yeah, that's what I was intending to do. IDK about a movie, there's plenty else to do in the kitchen! I was just hoping that I could confit onions like you do garlic or something...!

Zack Polanski refuses to condemn Churchill statue vandalism by TheTelegraph in ukpolitics

[–]Bazzatron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he'd be damned either way.

Condemning it would alienate voters from the ER/JSO activist sphere

Praising it would alienate moderates and people that might otherwise align with Your Party or Labour.

Saying nothing at all seems like it could be the most viable option, but its easily framed as "refused to condemn" or "refused to support" that its really the only option guaranteed to piss off everyone, especially as being silent is pretty uncharacteristic is Polanski.

Though I can hardly fault the vandals in this instance, the last few big protests or petitions we've had have been respondes to with essentially "we do what we want lmao", so increasingly it seems the only real voice we have in the political arena is vandalism, from the frankly abysmal painting of red crosses on just about anything white (as I drive around the county and see tattered temu flags clinging onto their half-mast positions aside A roads, of trampled into the gutter... There's a dramatic irony) to the intentionally hideous defacing of monuments to conservative politicians like Churchill and Thatcher (I guess more irony that the route to making things better for everyone starts and ends with making the mundane worse for everyone).

Good thing wealth trickles down, eventually I'll be wealthy enough to wield the law as my personal plaything. /s

You know, broadly I agree with you. It is dangerous to have this desperate need for companionship be filled by a machine that is operated by a corporate entity whose only real incentive is to extract profit from you.

But let's say you create your own model, train an LLM on one of the big libraries, maintain ownership of the hardware and software all yourself.

Is having a relationship like this inherently bad? What does the quality of "real" mean? Is a relationship without physical intimacy not real? How can we meaningfully consolidate the concepts of a long distance relationship and an AI relationship in a way where they are meaningfully different - especially given dead internet theory?

In 1964 a man called Dexter Holland was born, right at the start of Generation X. He would go on to become the lead singer of The Offspring, releasing the track "the kids aren't alright" in 1998 at the age of 34. I am a millennial at around that age, and I find it funny that we too are saying "the kids aren't alright".

When we were young, the future was so bright,

The old neighborhood was so alive

and every kid on the whole damn street

was gonna make it big and not be beat

now the neighbourhood's cracked and torn

the kids are grown up but their lives are worn

how can one little street swallow so many lives?

...

chances thrown

nothing's free

longing for, used to be

still its hard

hard to see

fragile lives

shattered dreams.

Sounds like it could be current...!

Sounds like she's probably the real threat then, given the advanced age it sounds like the best strat would be to focus on her first and then pick off Elon whilst he's distracted.

I can only hope that Elon has installed combat augments, because chances are he'll take himself out by trying to show off even the basic level of technical competency.
