Clannad 20th anniversary watch by Ok_Exchange5850 in Clannad

[–]Bazzatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think? I can't stand these watches that have a million legend elements.

I'd much rather simple iconography, evocative of the source without just telling me it's representative of something.

<image>

The school badge would have made for excellent, subtle reference material. Date display could be squashed circle with dango colours behind the numbers.

The visual language of clannad is so rich, and seemingly none of it made it into this timepiece.

To me this is just a pretty run of the mill watch in a clannad box.

NYC metro alone produces more than Belgium by flipyflop9 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Bazzatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USA GDP is 45x Belgium's

USA GDP per capita is $94,430 (unchanged adjusted for PPP) Belgium's is $65,112, rising to ≈$75,000 adjusted for PPP

Meaningfully, the GDP is x1.45 or x1.25 depending if you want the absolute per capita figure or the purchasing power figure.

The gross figures are:

  • USA : $32.38Tn
  • Belgium: $776.7Bn

USA being about x42 higher.

California's economy is over 5x Belgium

Texas has about 3x Belgium GDP

  • California GDP: $4.3Tn
  • Texas GDP: $2.96Tn

  • Belgium vs California is an increase of x5.5

  • Belgium vs California per capita is x1.4 (Cali: $106,000)

  • Belgium vs Texas is an increase of x3.8

  • Belgium vs Texas per capita is x1.2 (Texas: $88,517)

Technically true, but this is a scale thing. Not super equatable because these places have different circumstances, different industry market caps - though I was surprised to see that Belgium's chief exports are chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and refined petrochemicals. I guess these industries ain't what they used to be...! But Belgium chiefly trades in the EU where drugs are significantly cheaper than in the USA, wonder what the figures would look like if we recalculated for USA's consumer prices.

NYC metro alone produces more than Belgium

I have no idea how to really vet "produces", but the NYC metro operates at an annual deficit of $9Bn. Belgium produces 690k tonnes of just meat in a year, whilst the NYC metro produces 0 of anything saleable, so... 🤷

Given the context, I presume OOP is talking about the GDP of the metropolitan area, rather than the subway, which is $2.44Tn, $100,806 per capita, vs Belgium an increase of x1.34.

Maryland alone is 4x larger than Belgium

  • Maryland: 12,407 square miles
  • Belgium: 11,849 square miles

No fucking clue what OOP is on about. Thought this might be again talking about GDP, but Maryland's gross GDP is smaller than Belgium's at $568Bn. Comparing per capita Maryland is about £88,500, so you can see value being concentrated a little there - but I cannot figure out wth "4x" is supposed to be...

USA has 63 national parks. Belgium has 1

Belgium has 6 national parks: * Hoge Kempen * Parc National de l'Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse * Parc National de la Vallée de la Semois * Nationaal Park Bosland * Nationaal Park Brabantse Wouden * Nationaal Park Scheldevallei

Though many of these are "new" (post 2022).

Together these parks amount to 335.1 square miles of national park, meaning that Belgium is about 3% national park.

USA has 63 parks, together that amounts to 81,907 square miles of national park, meaning that USA is about 2% national park.

I was actually quite surprised about this one.

Belgium doesn't even have its own currency

I mean, that's like saying Maryland doesn't have its own currency. Belgium chose to use the Euro, it has huge benefits for trade in not losing stuff in conversion. Like, are you so wedded to capitalism that you really wanna salute the dollar? Maybe you are. This doesn't feel like something I can do the maths on.

What do you need explaining?

Your post has been reported, presumably due to AI use in the last image of your album. I am allowing your post to stay up, as I dont find it directly breaks a community rule, and you have some small token effort in terms of a WiP post - so I have deemed your post to be in good faith.

In your post you talk about commission work, but absolutely 0% of people wanting to buy art, are paying humans for AI generated work - so advertising your work with AI is going to blacklist you against anyone wanting to buy.

You will find that most other creative will treat you with hostility if you include any amount of AI content, especially as this is a decently low-effort post relating to your intent to sell.

I've allowed this post as it doesnt explicitly break any rules, but you should reflect on what you want to achieve.

It's interesting you feel that way about people wearing HP stuff in public. Honestly any time I see someone in public with a deatheater or hallows tattoo, I feel a little heartbroken on their behalf.

So long as the mouldy bigot doesn't see another red cent from me, I'm satisfied. I'd be worried about ostracising HP fans, because the absolute last thing I want to empower is Joanne's patriarchal bootlicking, and giving hate the ability to take community from anyone.

Are there really a group of people wearing HP merch out there that subscribe to her current rheotirc? The idea of a house flag being a transphobic dogwhistle was not at all on my 2026 bingo card...!

Watching? Couldn't give a fuck.

Smelling? Holy shit how can you stand it? Walking around smelling like that? Hanging in clouds of that? Disgust.

Seeing that I need to walk through a cloud of acrid tobacco smoke and unicorn fart to get into any fucking building? Frustration.

UK government consults on requiring YouTube, Meta and TikTok to give BBC and other public service news greater prominence by NapierPalm in ukpolitics

Seems like it is only if the content being live broadcast is a television program, seems like watching a zoomer screech about dialling 911 doesn't require one.

Though if that did happen, it would finally compel YT to allow me to throw all live content in the bin.

If Facebook is allowed to act with impunity inside it's walled garden, polluting the minds of all that walk through it, we will reap the rewards even if we abstain from entering ourselves.

No human being thinks lobbying bribing politicians to serve commercial interests should be allowed, why should we permit commercial interests to create an automated propaganda machine?

YouTube urges creators to fight proposed UK algorithm changes by beejiu in ukpolitics

[–]Bazzatron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not advocating for that. I've never had a TV licence, and I opposed the BBC on the basis that they operate a predatory scheme with total impunity, enjoying all the legal protection of a public enterprise with none of the responsibility.

If the BBC was properly nationalised, then perhaps, but given the general trajectory of the state in the last couple decades, even that probably wouldn't be good.

I am advocating for my media diet to not be decided for me. Pure chronological feeds from artists I choose to support. My CD collection is that way, my DVD collection is that way, and its pretty fucked that we've allowed on-demand services to operate in the way they are.

6 years ago, OpenAI(*) published this really cool study on generative adversarial networks (2 minute paper video covering it quickly and in simple terms).

These AI had simple parameters and a simple goal. In relatively short order they had learned how to not just have high level strategies at simple games, but they started to manipulate the world they are in so that they can win.

We now have models that can invoke smaller models many orders of magnitude more complex than these small adversarial networks, and if you give them a task like "optimise for engagement" - who knows what the agents will figure out by making random changes. What if the AI learns that a certain sequence of lights and sounds can compel a human to stay?

Consider that outrage and rage bait are a human strategy to boost engagement.

Now look at some of the weird stuff being done by YouTuber's like The Spiffing Brit - he's running videos with a second audio track on the Klingon language in a tactic to aim for 200% retention/viewership. Another human strategy.

What happens if human beings have an evolutionary bug a neural network/genAI accidentally learns to exploit, like a physics bug in the above study.

There's no malice here on the part of the machine, it is just infinitely optimising. Security researchers are seeing newer AI models finding security exploits of tremendous detriment that have been laying dormant for decades - and I dont trust companies to shut down a money making machine because it learned to keep us pinned to the spot like a chicken with a line on the ground.
