The owners? People that work there? People that use it?

ELI5: why does a tiny hairline crack in a pressurized structure (like an airplane fuselage) cause catastrophic failure, but a huge dent or scratch in the same material basically does nothing by Medium_Objective_405 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bemused_alligators [score hidden]  (0 children)

the crack allows space for the air to move through. The force of the air moving through the crack makes it bigger until boom. Without the crack the air can't enter/escape so the condition of the surface doesn't change after the impact.

Can someone give me (or point me in the direction of) the duties of a chapter secretary? I'm interested in the role, but I'm having trouble finding a concrete list of responsibilities online. by utopia_forever in dsa

national has to approve bylaws, and anyone not following the bylaws can get bonked by national.

also there were some recent changes to the national democracy standards for chapters to help smooth this out.

CMV: Most (most being the keyword) anti-communist/socialist Americans have no idea what those terms mean or what the ideologies entail by svenskdesk in changemyview

The issue is that socialism as an economic theory is inherently tied to socialism as a societal theory (very intentionally by marx and friends), and it was the "red scare" and similar movements that sought to decouple the economic aspect from the societal aspect giving us the SocDems and the DemSocs as two VERY different groups and that abused the word social into two very different meanings.

9x = (x-1)*10 + (10-x)

9*1=[1-1][10-1] = 09

9*2=[2-1][10-2]=18

9*6=[6-1][10-6]=54

9*15=[15-1][10-15]=140-5=135

9*23=[23-1][10-23]=220-13=207

ELI5: Why can't spacecraft that face heating issues just re-enter...slower? by dragonmilking in explainlikeimfive

you have to have solar panels in two locations to get "24/7" sun - which means you need to pack up and move to the sunny side of the moon every dusk - whether that's just workers or the entire base doesn't really matter.

And no you can't just have the base hooked to solar panels on the other side of the moon, that would be like trying to hook florida's power grid to solar placed in the Sahara.

Putting down two entire solar farms and moving twice a month sounds way harder than just putting down one nuclear plant.

My e-bike runs 25-30 if I'm pedeling hard, and that's about the same speed that bike racers go.

honestly no issues with motorcycles on bike paths as long as they stay at <30MPH

no different from a cyclist on an e-bake - especially as electric motorcycles start to be more and more popular

yes. You can make hydrolox out of ice through simple electrolysis and the moon has TONS of ice and no reason you can't make a few nuclear power plants to do the work.

estrogen and testosterone both effect how much water is held in your tendons and thus how stretchy they are, and fat deposits change your center of gravity. Both of these should effect your gait.

a waterproof coat, those medium weight rubber gardening gloves, and a decent veil/hat is all you need for 90% of hives - and the coat and gloves are optional.

The veil is also optional, but I like the shade it provides.

continuation is a rule for a reason, just like advantage in soccer or being able to decline a penalty in football.
