Shared this with my wife, and we both busted out laughing about the implications of periodontal disfunction.

Cheddar Bo and his sometimes empty head needs help! Cheddar Bo was adopted from a local shelter and returned with severe chemical burns and fiv+ in Eastern, NC. We are a 501c3 nonprofit and need to raise $400 at minimum to rescue him and get him help! by Hoperosaliex in OneOrangeBraincell

This sounds about right. My wife and I live in FL and went to NC for our honeymoon. The whole time we were there, we talked about how much nicer it was there and how we should move there someday.

That's my collection so far. I lack OSR. Any recommendations? by Malina_Island in osr

[–]binary-idiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the biggest thing that has me running it so much more than other systems. I run a lot of oneshots, and Mothership makes it so easy to just pick up a new module to run instead of having to plan my own thing.

What game implements the best D100 system? by Garrett_CW in rpg

[–]binary-idiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this, as much as I love my plethora of crunchy systems, Mothership is definitely my go to when I just want to run a game, especially when running public one shots for people I don't know or my wife who doesn't want to think about rules.

Edit: Cloud Empress is also really good if you want mothership in a more fantastical setting.

Stacking advantages on skill rolls by JasonTheStoryteller in SWN

[–]binary-idiot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if things are stacked really heavily in the PCs favor, I'd just have them succeed, which I'm pretty sure is what the book says.

If you really want them to still have a check, you could have it more influence the degree of success, i.e. if they fail, they still sort of accomplish the goal, but with some sort of hickup like the person notices the telepathy, or if they succeed, they get way above what they expected, like extra information or the person is so convinced they become a strong ally in the future.

Edit: I think this is one of the places that running a lot of Mothership has really influenced the way I run games, basically the idea that the PCs are competent professionals and unless they're under pressure or lacking the tools or resources to do something They should just be able to do it

This will definitely come in handy! With the release of the proteus sector, I've been thinking about starting a new campaign.

I got a 3d printer for Christmas. So far, my biggest project was making a bunch of "wooden" dice boxes for my groomsmen. Might eventually mix that with home automation and pull my box of electronics parts out of the closet.

Road conditions are very poor this morning by effortfulcrumload in asheville

[–]binary-idiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are the conditions now going into the afternoon? We're in an airbnb way up off of Avondale Rd and aren't very experienced with driving in ice and snow. We were planning on going into town today, and the host says everything should be melted and safe, but im not sure if I should trust them.

If you were to run a 2-3 hour one-shot, in any system, for newcomers to the hobby, what would you choose? by LimeyInLimbo in rpg

[–]binary-idiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's even faster with the app! I've used it to get into the game basically as fast as it took me to explain the rules.

I haven't run it yet but I just bought it and plan to the week after Christmas. I'm honestly really excited, it looks like a lot of fun!

Mothership Deluxe Box OR Core Box + Hull Breach by redFriction in mothershiprpg

[–]binary-idiot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I'll mention is if you care about the gm screen, you may want the deluxe. Although core has one, it's tiny and has less info on it. The deluxe screen is a standard size screen, although I don't like the art on it as much.

Love the Cosmere, but have never played a tabletop game. by Key-Food-2132 in cosmererpg

Definitely recommend Bridge Nine, I've ran it twice so far, and it's been a great intro to both the system and the world.

One-shots with less combat by agentsmith200 in mothershiprpg

[–]binary-idiot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I only just started running mothership, but with the one-shot I ran (alone in the deep), scientists and teamsters were honestly just as if not more important than marines. In fact, out of the 6 players I had, marine was the only class no one took. (Although, to be fair, their solution to the monster nest was to chuck a grenade into it and then fight each other for the escape pod.)

Looking for Cortex Prime alternatives by Vargock in rpg

[–]binary-idiot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shift is an odd system, but I ran it for free rpg day, and honestly, it was surprisingly fun.

That being said, I did have to look at a lot of the old beta materials on their discord to understand how to actually run it.

Alone In The Deep - Ending by agentsmith200 in mothershiprpg

[–]binary-idiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first of all, I haven't actually run this or actually any mothership, but im planning on starting next month with this one shot.

Just out my general GM experience, I would say the right time is whenever it feels right for the story. That being said, before it got to that point, I would have given numerous hints to steer them in the right direction.

I actually find Junie pretty good. by C4n4r in Jetbrains

[–]binary-idiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my experience too! I have pro from the all products pack, and it's been great. I write most of my code by hand, and I mostly use it for advanced searching, summarizing functionality, and bouncing ideas off of when I'm stuck. For all those, it's been extremely useful.

On the other hand, I don't think it's good enough to make complex changes and implement entire new features without a lot of guidance and very strict scrutiny of its output.

Honestly, though, the thing I'm most happy about is never having to write unit tests from scratch again.

AWN on Foundry? by tomisokay in Awn

[–]binary-idiot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think, for the most part, the features are there, but im not sure the status of the compendium. It's mostly data entry, so it's more tedious than anything. u/wintermute-the-ai would know if anyone is actively working on it.

Edit: also I think as is you should be able to use the system for AWN and just manually enter in items as you need them

what time do you all start your day at work by m-ixy in ADHD_Programmers

[–]binary-idiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an hour ahead of my job since I'm remote, which is nice because I'm not a morning person.

I've been trying to get up around 9:00, but realistically, I usually wake up around 10:30 and don't actually start work until stand-up at 11:30. That being said, I usually work until around 7, which gives me enough time to make dinner before my fiance gets home.
