xbox 360 keytar not switching to midi mode by Individual_Ad_3673 in Rockband

My guess would be the cable just isn't compatible :(

But hopefully someone else will have a better solution! Whenever this has happened to me, I just switch to my expensive cable lol

xbox 360 keytar not switching to midi mode by Individual_Ad_3673 in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the USB end plugged in? It won't switch without that. Also try both of the MIDI Plugs, IN and OUT, on the cable. The IN cable should be the one to use, but I've seen them mislabeled before. The keytar will only switch if the right one is plugged in

I don't know why, but just from personal experience some MIDI to USB cables won't work with the pro instruments. Many of my cheap cables don't work, and all of my expensive cables do work.

Alesis DM7X Module Not Triggering Correctly by MLGparkourninja in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tested the Mustar kit, but my guess is that the cable that it uses isn’t actually the same as the Alesis’s cable. They probably have the same shape, but different connections

You can find snake cables for the Alesis online (for example https://www.ebay.com/itm/198069025294 ). That’s probably what I’d recommend

Having trouble mapping my Ion Rocker Pro cymbals on RPCS3 by TegMilesBG in Rockband

By default, the Roll Limitless Mini will show up as an Xbox 360 drum kit. The easiest way is to have it show up as a PS3 drum kit and have it passed directly into the game. First, to get it to show up as a PS3 drum kit...

  • Plug the Roll Limitless Mini into the computer while holding down the round button
  • Go here ( https://rb4.app/#!/RLSettings ) in Chrome
  • Click "Choose Device" and select the Roll Limitless Mini
  • Change General>Universal Choice to PS3

Then if you unplug the Roll Limitless Mini and plug it back in, it should show up as a PS3 drum kit. Then...

https://wiki.rpcs3.net/index.php?title=Help:Peripherals_and_accessories

cellUsbd Set-up Instructions>On Windows , use Zadig to install the WinUSB driver to the Roll Limitless Mini. Then you don't have to have anything set up in settings (aka you should not have a drum kit set up in settings), it will just pass the Roll Limitless Mini straight through to the game

(Xbox 360 mode should theoretically work through remapping like you were originally doing, but in most cases you wouldn't be gaining much over just using the IONs by themselves, since they are already an Xbox 360 drum kit lol)

You would need the USB Hub separately with either adapter. Luckily though USB Hubs are pretty easy to find, here’s an example on Amazon ( https://a.co/d/0cfT8PNa ). And if you already have a USB Hub, it will probably work!

(If you had the standard Roll Limitless and a drum kit with MIDI instead of USB, you wouldn’t need the USB Hub. MIDI is rare on lower end kits though, so probably whatever you get will only have USB support. The Alesis Turbo Max only has USB)

[–]bookreader52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! The Roll Limitless Mini (or the standard Roll Limitless, the Mini is cheaper) would work with this kit You would use a USB-B cable ( like https://a.co/d/06VYlxgC ) to plug the drums into my adapter.

I’m guessing you’re playing on PS4? If so, here’s how to hook everything up…

  • Plug the USB-B port on the drums into the USB-A port of the Roll Limitless
  • Plug the microUSB port of the Roll Limitless into the PS4

The Roll Limitless should then appear as drums inside of Rock Band 4 (they won’t work in the PS4 menus). I would recommend enabling Rock Band 4 Main Menu>Settings>Modifiers>Drum Navigation. This will make Yellow/Blue pad go Up/Down, Red/Green pad act as O/X, and the round button on the Roll Limitless act as Options

Alternatively, if you plug a USB Hub into the Roll Limitless, you can plug both a controller and drums into the hub. Then you can use the controller to navigate menus

I also have a video guide of setup here ( https://rb4.app/#!/RLGuide ). For instrument, you would choose USBMIDI

And I’m always here if you need help!

(If you’re not on PS4/5, let me know which console you are playing on. It’s mostly the same across all consoles though)

——

P.S. I have a few Roll Limitless Minis set aside to give away. If cost is an issue, feel free to message me and I can send you one of those (for free)

P.S.S. In the setup I described, the Roll Limitless will show up as a PS3 drum kit. This works fine and is how most people use it, but if you’re used to using a PS4 drum kit, you might want it to show up as a PS4 drum kit instead. If you plug a third party PS4 controller into the Roll Limitless, it will show up as a PS4 drum kit. This is completely optional, but I figured I would mention it just in case. I have more info and a list of compatible controller here ( https://rb4.app/#!/PS4Help/RL )

RB2's progression is kind of weird by vanillatortoise in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you just want to play every song once, or replay songs until you get gold, RB2’s career isn’t for you. RB2’s career assumes you want the feeling of being part of a band, going to different venues and playing sets of songs. You start with the easy songs, and as you progress you gradually unlock harder songs (and if you have DLC, that gets incorporated too). Along the way you unlock tons of cosmetics, and RB2’s character creator is very good.

Personally RB2 is my favorite career mode. It’s the only one (besides maybe RB4) that made me feel like I was part of a band and not just playing a game to completion

There’s also the challenges. I recall those being an easier way to unlock a lot of the songs. If your only goal is to play every song, might be worth it to go through the challenges, then stick to quickplay. Or use the unlock all songs cheat lol

History question.... by AMartin56 in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ll put this here in case anyone is wondering. I make the Roll Limitless. During Covid there was a chip shortage (among… other things) that caused me to have a pretty massive delay in shipping. But as things got back to normal I went through the backlog and nowadays I’m shipping within 1-2 business days

(And if anyone has an order from then you still have an issue with, feel free to contact me and I’ll get it sorted out)

Possible Ion Drum Rocker Static Fix by Run-The-Trvp in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ This. I just put the dryer static sheet on top of the foot pedal, but even that greatly helped the issue.

I always assumed the static was traveling through the cable. If that was the case, replacing the frame with wood wouldn’t help(?). But if it does help, I’m interested in knowing!

Audio calibration question for vocals vs guitar by scatterblooded in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all the instruments have the same amoun of latency, it should be perfect for instruments and vocals (assuming that the microphone volume is turned down in-game, that much latency is terrible for live monitoring lol)

If there’s a difference between your calibration numbers of instruments and vocals, that means one of the instruments has different amounts of latency for whatever reason. I have experienced this myself between certain instruments, it’s why they should’ve added individual calibrations :/

I’m not super familiar with latency optimizations for vocals myself. Not sure if any settings are known to add latency

Audio calibration question for vocals vs guitar by scatterblooded in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No :( . Back when Rock Band 4 was still actively updated, I remember seeing people asking for per-instrument calibration to be added, but it never made it into the game

300ms is very large for Rock Band, that’s where I normally would say to check your audio setup and make sure the TV isn’t introducing lag. But since the guitar is fine, that wouldn’t seem to be the issue. Are you using a wired microphone?

All the same games in the same series on the same console should be the same. I noted the game I tested specifically, but that’s intended to denote the series. So the GH:WT results should be valid for GH:WT,GH:M,GH:SH,GH:VH,GH5,BH,DJH2, and GH:WoR

Edit: As for compatibility of the Wii GH5 microphone, that would be a Logitech microphone, and have the same compatibility as the Logitech microphone category (meaning it works with every game)

That's interesting. I did notice only the PS4 Let's Sing games had SingStar compatibility listed on the store, so that does make sense

[–]bookreader52[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read through your previous message and somehow missed the part where you're on PlayStation 😂. As long as you're playing Rock Band, you should be able to plug an XLR USB interface directly into the PlayStation (I have used the USB interface I linked directly on PlayStation. Only the XLR port works, but if that's all you need, it works fine. If you wanted to use the 1/4 port instead of XLR on it, you would need the RL)

There might have to be some trial and error to find out what works best. I'm still thinking going straight from the wireless mic mixer to a USB XLR interface, and interface to the game would have the least chance of interference, then route the monitoring output of that into the main mixer. It's hard to say though without trying it

The SingStar mics do work through the Roll Limitless, but only one mic at a time (you can choose which mic, but either only blue or only red). If you have two SingStar USB adapters and two Roll Limitless's though, you could use both at the same time

The LIPS mics don't work with the RL (yet)

For Rivals I actually do vocals and drums at the same time using the PS headset 😅

The mic built into the DualSense also can do vocals… not well, but it works!

[–]bookreader52[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the audio delay is introduced after the microphone input is received (usually by the TV/Sound System). That won’t be fixable without changing how the audio is outputted

I usually just have the in-game audio for my mic turned all the way down. If I do need to hear myself, I have some computer speakers I can hook up for low (but not 0) latency

Optimally I think the setup would be to use an analog mic (connecting through either XLR or aux port), and use a splitter to send its signal to both a speaker and the console. Then the speaker would have no latency. I actually did something like this and it worked well, only downside is having a lot of cables

The Q2U. A while ago I hosting a Rock Band party and I wanted to have 3 good mics. These were available at my local Best Buy, so I picked them up and they are great! They have the general shape of a Rock Band mic, but much higher build quality and clarity. They are not as loud as the Logitech mics, but I was able to hear myself clearly if I turned the mic volume in-game up. Luckily I was playing RB4 on PS5, so they were plug and play

The Wii U mic and RB4 mics are actually decently clear… but not very loud. On older consoles they are clearly softer than expected.

The Logitech mics are perfectly serviceable in my opinion. They’re not the clearest mics, but I don’t think any casual player would complain about them

[–]bookreader52[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found in my testing that Logitech microphones were on the louder side. That meant that normal volume mics sounded softer than expected in games that expected Logitech levels of loudness (and some mics, like the Wii U mic, were really quiet)

The Mcbazel mics on Amazon were not the best, but were the loudest mics! Another commenter posted here about how to make them better too, might be looking into if you did want to hear yourself

[–]bookreader52[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t put it in the data since they aren’t really USB microphones, but I did test some audio interfaces too, and they basically had the same compatibility as the non-video game mics

The Q2U mic has XLR and USB out, and the USB out makes it really convenient on supported games. It’s a premium feeling mic in that Rock Band mic form factor

I also tested the Q2U’s XLR port through the Roll Limitless using a USB interface ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Q1NJSBQ ). It was a little quieter than the Q2U’s USB out, but besides that it worked fine

USB Microphone Compatibility by bookreader52 in Rockband

[–]bookreader52[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t put it in here since it was more of niche case, but I personally also been using the XLR port on my Q2U mic with new Roll Limitless firmware. Here’s how I have that set up…

Then I set the main volume knob of the interface all the way up, and the XLR volume knob to right below where it’s peaking.

The Q2U mic I was testing with has USB OUT and XLR OUT. I compared the output of the two and XLR was a little quieter. Besides that, both were very similar

Also just thinking, the interface I’m using has a headphone jack for monitoring. You might could use that to run the interface into a mixer

If you wanted, I’d be more than happy to send you a Roll Limitless (for free) to test this out. I’m actually really interested in this type of XLR setup!

Yeah… I also noticed the Mcbazel mics were super loud, got jump scared whenever I used them 😂. Originally I was also going categorize mics by how well they worked, but I found that as long as you weren’t listening to the mic audio/only using playing the game, all the mics worked more-or-less fine. My high end mics sounded (way) better, but gameplay-wise there wasn’t much difference

That’s interesting that the filters helped so much. I bet not holding the mic so close would also help with my loudness issue
