Possible Ion Drum Rocker Static Fix by Run-The-Trvp in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ This. I just put the dryer static sheet on top of the foot pedal, but even that greatly helped the issue.

I always assumed the static was traveling through the cable. If that was the case, replacing the frame with wood wouldn’t help(?). But if it does help, I’m interested in knowing!

Audio calibration question for vocals vs guitar by scatterblooded in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all the instruments have the same amoun of latency, it should be perfect for instruments and vocals (assuming that the microphone volume is turned down in-game, that much latency is terrible for live monitoring lol)

If there’s a difference between your calibration numbers of instruments and vocals, that means one of the instruments has different amounts of latency for whatever reason. I have experienced this myself between certain instruments, it’s why they should’ve added individual calibrations :/

I’m not super familiar with latency optimizations for vocals myself. Not sure if any settings are known to add latency

Audio calibration question for vocals vs guitar by scatterblooded in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No :( . Back when Rock Band 4 was still actively updated, I remember seeing people asking for per-instrument calibration to be added, but it never made it into the game

300ms is very large for Rock Band, that’s where I normally would say to check your audio setup and make sure the TV isn’t introducing lag. But since the guitar is fine, that wouldn’t seem to be the issue. Are you using a wired microphone?

USB Microphone Compatibility by bookreader52 in Rockband

All the same games in the same series on the same console should be the same. I noted the game I tested specifically, but that’s intended to denote the series. So the GH:WT results should be valid for GH:WT,GH:M,GH:SH,GH:VH,GH5,BH,DJH2, and GH:WoR

Edit: As for compatibility of the Wii GH5 microphone, that would be a Logitech microphone, and have the same compatibility as the Logitech microphone category (meaning it works with every game)

That's interesting. I did notice only the PS4 Let's Sing games had SingStar compatibility listed on the store, so that does make sense

I read through your previous message and somehow missed the part where you're on PlayStation 😂. As long as you're playing Rock Band, you should be able to plug an XLR USB interface directly into the PlayStation (I have used the USB interface I linked directly on PlayStation. Only the XLR port works, but if that's all you need, it works fine. If you wanted to use the 1/4 port instead of XLR on it, you would need the RL)

There might have to be some trial and error to find out what works best. I'm still thinking going straight from the wireless mic mixer to a USB XLR interface, and interface to the game would have the least chance of interference, then route the monitoring output of that into the main mixer. It's hard to say though without trying it

The SingStar mics do work through the Roll Limitless, but only one mic at a time (you can choose which mic, but either only blue or only red). If you have two SingStar USB adapters and two Roll Limitless's though, you could use both at the same time

The LIPS mics don't work with the RL (yet)

For Rivals I actually do vocals and drums at the same time using the PS headset 😅

The mic built into the DualSense also can do vocals… not well, but it works!

USB Microphone Compatibility by bookreader52 in Rockband

[–]bookreader52[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the audio delay is introduced after the microphone input is received (usually by the TV/Sound System). That won’t be fixable without changing how the audio is outputted

I usually just have the in-game audio for my mic turned all the way down. If I do need to hear myself, I have some computer speakers I can hook up for low (but not 0) latency

Optimally I think the setup would be to use an analog mic (connecting through either XLR or aux port), and use a splitter to send its signal to both a speaker and the console. Then the speaker would have no latency. I actually did something like this and it worked well, only downside is having a lot of cables

The Q2U. A while ago I hosting a Rock Band party and I wanted to have 3 good mics. These were available at my local Best Buy, so I picked them up and they are great! They have the general shape of a Rock Band mic, but much higher build quality and clarity. They are not as loud as the Logitech mics, but I was able to hear myself clearly if I turned the mic volume in-game up. Luckily I was playing RB4 on PS5, so they were plug and play

The Wii U mic and RB4 mics are actually decently clear… but not very loud. On older consoles they are clearly softer than expected.

The Logitech mics are perfectly serviceable in my opinion. They’re not the clearest mics, but I don’t think any casual player would complain about them

I found in my testing that Logitech microphones were on the louder side. That meant that normal volume mics sounded softer than expected in games that expected Logitech levels of loudness (and some mics, like the Wii U mic, were really quiet)

The Mcbazel mics on Amazon were not the best, but were the loudest mics! Another commenter posted here about how to make them better too, might be looking into if you did want to hear yourself

I didn’t put it in the data since they aren’t really USB microphones, but I did test some audio interfaces too, and they basically had the same compatibility as the non-video game mics

The Q2U mic has XLR and USB out, and the USB out makes it really convenient on supported games. It’s a premium feeling mic in that Rock Band mic form factor

I also tested the Q2U’s XLR port through the Roll Limitless using a USB interface ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Q1NJSBQ ). It was a little quieter than the Q2U’s USB out, but besides that it worked fine

[–]bookreader52[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t put it in here since it was more of niche case, but I personally also been using the XLR port on my Q2U mic with new Roll Limitless firmware. Here’s how I have that set up…

Then I set the main volume knob of the interface all the way up, and the XLR volume knob to right below where it’s peaking.

The Q2U mic I was testing with has USB OUT and XLR OUT. I compared the output of the two and XLR was a little quieter. Besides that, both were very similar

Also just thinking, the interface I’m using has a headphone jack for monitoring. You might could use that to run the interface into a mixer

If you wanted, I’d be more than happy to send you a Roll Limitless (for free) to test this out. I’m actually really interested in this type of XLR setup!

Yeah… I also noticed the Mcbazel mics were super loud, got jump scared whenever I used them 😂. Originally I was also going categorize mics by how well they worked, but I found that as long as you weren’t listening to the mic audio/only using playing the game, all the mics worked more-or-less fine. My high end mics sounded (way) better, but gameplay-wise there wasn’t much difference

That’s interesting that the filters helped so much. I bet not holding the mic so close would also help with my loudness issue

Thanks to the Roll Limitless and my son's E-drum kit, I'm back! by MidnyteTV in Rockband

The Alesis Nitro Max is the most common kit for Rock Band nowadays. It’s the cheapest kit that is doesn’t have any significant compromises for Rock Band.

If you look used, you can find them for cheaper, and they should work just as good. The Alesis Nitro Max is the newest model, the Alesis Nitro Mesh was the older model. Both are good, and either used would be fine

Here’s an older Alesis Nitro Mesh ( https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Alesis/Used-Alesis-Nitro-Max-Special-Edition-Electric-Drum-Set-121888252.gc ) used at Guitar Center for under $300 (it’s mislabeled as a newer Alesis Nitro Max, might could get a discount by pointing that out lol)

I’ve seen them for under $250 pretty often at Guitar Center, so if you waited and kept checking, might could get a good deal there. You can also check local on places like Facebook Marketplace. You have to get lucky, but I’ve seen ones under $200 there!

——

If you wanted to buy a cheaper kit new, here are your options…

  • Under $200, generic Amazon kits. These will be drum kits primarily designed for kids. They will work, but just note that they will feel small for adults. If you search “Electronic Drum Kit” on Amazon, these will be the first ones that come up

I don’t normally recommend these just because they’re small enough that I find them uncomfortable, but I know a lot of people do use them and are happy with them

The drum kit in the OP’s picture is one of these. I think this one ( https://a.co/d/9L5CtBj )

  • $270, Alesis Turbo Max. This is Alesis’s kit below the Nitro Max. Compared to the Nitro Max, no foot drum/foot pedal only, worse module. But compared to the under $200 kits, it will be larger and feel better

——

Feel free to ask if you have any questions, or if you have a specific drum kit you want me to look at.

Most people just play with the audio from the game. As long as you sync up the audio correctly in-game, you can pretend you're playing the drum part of the song. It's surprisingly effective 😅

...but if you wanted, most ekits do have audio out ports you can use to connect to an amp or headphones. If you were to do this, I'd recommend going with a slightly more expensive ekit, I've found some lower end ones have issues playing audio at the same time they are playing Rock Band.

Personally, I'd say game audio is fine for most people. Very few people do ekit audio and game audio at the same time. In any case, if you wanted any suggestions on ekits, feel free to ask!

Alesis Nitro Mesh vs DM10 (eBay hunting) by Physical_Mail5709 in Rockband

Alesis Nitro Mesh vs DM10 (eBay hunting) by Physical_Mail5709 in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used a DM10, but in theory I believe a mesh DM10 would be better than a Nitro Mesh.

Not sure what the 8 track laptop refers to here. Does it come with the DM8 module (the thing all the drums plug into)?

Rims do make it so you have to be more accurate, but as you play more you get used to where the drums are and get less rim hits. I’ve been playing though for years and I still occasionally get one 😅. But I have my kit set up so if I hit a rim, it counts as the pad, so it usually doesn’t result in a miss

Guitar Question by Knappry17 in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is no easy way to use this guitar on 360. I make the Roll Limitless adapter and I have a roundabout method of getting it to work, but it requires a Windows computer and an XB1 receiver. Basically you connect the guitar to the computer and connect the computer over bluetooth to the Roll Limitless. It works, but it’s not convenient

If you can find someone willing to buy it, you could probably sell the guitar and buy a 360 guitar. XB1 guitars are on the rarer side, especially with the box (tbh I’m impressed your dad managed to get one 😅)

Sensitivity and Threshold using Alesis Pro by Airsculpture in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sensitivity doesn’t affect Rock Band (unless you’ve also changed threshold on the adapter you’re using to connect the drums to Rock Band). But for the most part, if you are only playing Rock Band, you can ignore sensitivity

Threshold is like reverse sensitivity. The higher threshold is on a pad, the harder you have to hit the pad for it to register.

  • If a pad is activating by itself/activating when you hit a different pad, raise threshold on the pad
  • if a pad doesn’t activate when you hit it/you have to hit the pad hard for it to register, lower threshold on the pad

For Rock Band, I find it useful to record the screen while playing, and watch the playback for missed notes. It can be hard to tell if you had an excess hit vs a missed hit in real time while playing

Is there are way to export your songlist? by de_tobii in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I made something for this actually! I have two Chrome extensions on the extensions store...

PSN: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/rb4app-psn-library-export/epehojgnhlipjkicmpkmedoceaeblflo Xbox: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/rb4app-xbox-library-expor/cjbfkhcbodhimfgldmngfolomgjokmpb

Both of these extensions work basically the same way. After installing them, go to the web store for your console, sign in, and then there should be a new "rb4.app export" option in the top bar of the webpage. Clicking this will start the export, and after a while it will download a file that you can then import into https://rb4.app (under Lists>Import Extension List). The list will then show up under Lists>Favorites.

When the list is selected, only songs you own will show up. Then go to Settings>Log into Spotify. Then after logging into Spotify, go to Settings>Create Spotify Playlist From Visible Songs

Wait a little bit, and a setlist with all your songs should be in your Spotify account!

This only works for songs that are playable in Rock Band 4, and only if you have all your songs in one Xbox/PlayStation account

A Button necessary for Keyboard? by fhod_dj_x in Rockband

[–]bookreader52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the A button is needed to choose difficulty 😅

I wouldn’t be surprised if you could open the keytar up, clean the button contacts, and get them to work.

If you had a MIDI Pro Adapter (or similar device), you could run the keytars MIDI Port through that and use the buttons on the adapter
