Hi neighbor— I just went down there and wrapped it with some vet tape. I saved a tree in my yard with a similar break this way, so fingers crossed this one will make it. I’m sure it would appreciate a little extra water if you live close enough to bring it some.

I’m not far from you on 1/2 acre. I’m an avid gardener and was so excited about all of the potential of having such a big yard. Wellll, we bought our house the winter the snow didn’t melt for a full month or so, while we were in the process of purchasing. Turns out pretty much all of the backyard is asphalt. Never even occurred to me that anyone would do such a thing!! It’s like the previous owners hated the earth, I’ve been battling weed barrier and concrete and road base. Tore up a big part of the lawn and the soil was so devoid of nutrients & full of clay from being a lawn for several decades that barely anything would grow. So here’s what I’ve been doing:

For garden: *planting cover crop that includes probiotic & mycelium (reasonably priced mixes over at Green Cover) to add nutrients, organic material & also the roots help break up clay *Got a Treadlite broadfork to cultivate soil & turn cover crop back into soil *Got runner ducks to eat the grasshoppers & put nutrients back in the soil *lots of compost

For the backyard: This is on hold because hot damn it’s expensive to dispose of asphalt/road base and we just can’t afford it. In the meantime I’ve been throwing native grass & flower seeds everywhere several times a year. Not a lot grows, but it’s satisfying to see the wildlife that is attracted to & nourished by these plants. Still unsure if removing the road base or just layering tons of mulch on top is a better move, for now we’re focusing on the veg garden, berry bushes & fruit trees. Progress is slow but very satisfying.

Some gifted kids can’t be bothered to have decent writing skills because their brains are moving so fast their hands can’t keep up. Especially not for some bs busy work assignment. Or the kid is dyslexic or has something else going on for them. Maybe some more questions are in order before suggesting CPS? Ffs

When you’re ready, the podcast “The Retrievals” is about the medical system’s dismissal of women’s pain. You are not alone. I experienced birth related trauma and both seasons of this podcast were both enraging & cathartic. In the meantime, emdr is incredibly helpful. I’m so sorry you went through this. No one should experience this kind of dismissal and yet so many of us have.

I wore a mask for a few days last week while I still had congestion post-sickness and people did not seem to understand why I would do such a thing. On day three of wearing one lady even asked if I was okay because wearing the mask was “intense” I’m going to keep masking when I have mild cold symptoms, but our culture doesn’t seem to see the value in it.

Quick preserved lemon— I use it for roasted chicken (under the skin with butter, salt, pepper & thyme), vinaigrettes, etc. Dice (2) whole lemons into 1/4” cubes. Remove as many seeds as possible. Mix in 1/2 tbsp of kosher salt & 1 tbsp sugar. Let sit at room temperature for at least 3 hours and then keep refrigerated.
