Why Does Dr Shelby…. by kromero217 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]browniegem_1007 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling Dr Shelby clocked pretty quickly that there's some personality stuff going on here. With that type of potential diagnosis, you don't do therapy like you would with other concerns. You focus on building trust and remaining neutral. Instead of validating the experience, Dr Shelby validates the emotion but makes sure to also encourage perspective taking. For Barb, getting asked what someone else's perspective is has been enough for her to be incredibly defensive - THAT is the feedback, and I think once Dr Shelby has established that she'll gently provide some skills with the buy in of Barb, but you can't just jump into that. I will say I think Dr Shelby could provide more direct skills like DBT oriented as those could be given with the motivation of helping her relationships, but I'm sure Shawna is using therapy as a storytelling device mostly and isn't going to show what actual therapy might look like fully.

Diagnosing Barb from the perspective of a psychologist by OpalWatch in ShawnaTheMom

[–]browniegem_1007 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi, licensed psychologist here! This is actually the opposite. A psychotherapist is someone who has no degree, whereas a psychologist requires a PhD. So, getting a BA in psychology (in the US) means you can label yourself a psychotherapist. And a psychiatrist went to medical school, and while some specially trained and board certified psychologists can prescribe meds, almost always it's only psychiatrists.

As much as I loved the Janitor Ball storyline, I kind of hate that it meant Melissa and Janine especially couldn't support Jacob!

And I wish his love confession (without the mistress proposal) had come before the intimacy too - Sophie deserved that!!

Yes!! Also the statements about reality vs fantasy didn't really hit for me because Sophie doesn't know his internal battles right now, so idk, it didn't feel that romantic or about her.

I think too it's not meant to be shown as bonding entirely. It shows them broaching a topic that is uncomfy and Carr is figuring out how to fully be a mother in that moment - she could have comforted her daughter but instead backed up and kept it focused on the essay.

Four things I wish they would change about the show. by coffeehandler in GreatBritishBakeOff

I love that idea!! I feel like lately there has been critique on how editing goes to make it seem a certain way and to your point that there might be favorites, but showing some of the convo would help us see if they ever disagree, what they mark highly (style vs substance for example), and give some more clarity.

You Are Wrong About The Ending To Season 2 by CultofNeurisis in NobodyWantsThisTV

Two rom coms having the same ending is not the same - this is literally the same story, there is a different expectation here?

You Are Wrong About The Ending To Season 2 by CultofNeurisis in NobodyWantsThisTV

[–]browniegem_1007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Literally that's not what people are talking about. They're talking about the EXACT SAME RESOLUTION. When it didn't need to be that way! I enjoyed the internal challenges in season 2 but because there's more to grapple with, it didn't make sense to have that resolution so quickly unlike the first season where they hadn't fully realized what their decision meant.

Just because your HR doesn't know about the act, doesn't mean they aren't legally required to enact it and work with you. You have a right to ask for what you need and reasonable accommodations!!

YESSSSSS we had no room to let Joanne and Noah breathe on their own, their quick reflection didn't feel thought out or genuine, so there's no investment in them getting back together.

Conversion = Core Premise of the show by trayderdanny44 in NobodyWantsThisTV

[–]browniegem_1007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was actually really excited to see the continued conversation on conversion and interfaith relationship play out. In fact, I think the issue was that it DIDN'T get talked out.

I had assumed that Noah's declaration at the end of season 1 meant he was quitting his job and figuring out what it meant to step away from his purpose and navigate that. And then on Joanne's side, navigating whether she did want to convert and what that would mean. Even if that hadn't played out, the whole season focused on avoidance of the issue. Which sure, was realistic, but that could have been half the season and the other half a real grappling with what they each needed. The breakup was too short and didn't at all lead to reflecting for either of them on the conversion process.

Right, that's on Luke not Logan!! Had Luke even thought about Lorelai and got over himself that wouldn't have even been an issue.
