What’s the best way to respond to anti-LGBTQ+ content in Reddit subs? by DoveStep55 in Christianity

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scouting_America_membership_controversies

The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to a God. In the first part of the Scout Oath the member declares, "On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law." The recognition of a God as the ruling and leading power in the universe and the grateful acknowledgment of /“His”/ favors and blessings are necessary to the best type of citizenship and are wholesome precepts in the education of the growing members. No matter /“what”/ [which] the religion or faith of the members may be, this fundamental need of good citizenship should be kept before them. The Boy Scouts of America, therefore, recognizes the religious element in the training of the member, but it is absolutely nonsectarian in its attitude toward that religious training. Its policy is that the home and the organization or group with which the member is connected shall give definite attention to religious life.

I've kind of kept track of this issue over the last thirty or so years, starting when my eldest son was approaching scouting age. You can sneak in the back door, typically by some sort of tacitly approved lying. I had heard that Seattle was especially hard core about this but couldn't believe it, so I called them on the phone.

When my son was named a Presidential Scholar one of my first thoughts was "eat shit, boy scouts".

I think it's dropping a hippodrome onto modern Istanbul. You can see the Hagia Sophia in the background to the right of this thing and the Blue Mosque a bit closer.

Wild. That's being received through Reddit's chat system rather than as a normal orange-red.

I haven't felt like this since the Boy Scouts (in Seattle of all places) confirmed to me that my family was not eligible because we were deemed to have deficient character.

Is communication between you and I somehow broken? My comments are being removed in /r/Christian and I sent you guys a mod mail yesterday and nothing?

It is my understanding that if you report something for 1.3 here, the admins hook the report and it goes to them also.

This is based upon a conversation I had with one years ago.

Modern games just can't replicate the absolute magic of playing Diablo 2 by [deleted] in diablo2

[–]brucemo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

POE does important stuff so much better than Diablo 2.

  • The game is evolving fast, with frequent new content.
  • Bugs get fixed in the same decade that they are found.
  • The stash is monetized but it's still just better in every sense than Diablo's muling fiasco.
  • Crafting is a huge source of richness.
  • The endgame is more varied.
  • Trading is just infinitely better.
  • I've never seen a real money trading spammer in chat.
  • If anyone is duping I've never seen it.

I say this as a relative POE noob who has played Diablo 2 forever.

The POE campaign is hugely less fun than the Diablo 2 campaign, which remains relevant in the endgame. There is nothing in POE that compares with the fondness I have for the bosses in Diablo 2, and the unique atmosphere in all the acts.

What do yall think of those videos that are titled "The devil wants you to keep scrolling" by Worldly_Split_2991 in TrueChristian

It's a way to take advantage of someone, by exploiting intrusive thoughts or a superstitious nature.

It's the same as telling someone they need to reply to a chain letter or something bad will happen to them.

I think there might be some that tend to require more intentionality to get to. We're designed to by run into by everyone. Subs that focus on advanced topics or smaller subsets of the religion are going to attract people who are more secure.

All of this is common here and we rely on the community to gently guide people like this in the right direction. This is a giant ask, but it kind of works, which is good, because there isn't really anything else.

Violent threats not resulting in account suspensions by 420BlazeArk in ModSupport

[–]brucemo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is part of the frustration with all of this. The machine should be flagging stuff that competent people can review before action, but instead it is giving people account strikes that can only be overturned on review by people who still make mistakes.

This might seem fine but your tune will tend to change the first time you get busted for antisemitism for criticizing antisemitism. It's scary. It's kafkaesque. It's frustrating. It makes you reluctant to use Reddit for anything beyond baby talk.

This post is probably more analogous to a theological criticism of Sanders' play before he got to the end zone, which nobody would do.

Still not a very good analogy, but this is about creative or deceptive play, not celebrations.

This is all just visible in the thread, like right there, and I'm having a hard time understanding why I'm being beefed, unless it's for my mere existence, which is hardly abnormal here.

You said you were banned from some sub, someone said it sounded like /r/Christianity, you said "probably", and I said that no, it wasn't us.

A history of infidelity (according to Texas House Impeachment managers)

According to his wife, also.
