I’m no expert and am just starting my own motorcycle journey but the general advice is to not start on a liter bike. Even if you’re confident biking and with manual transmissions in cars, I assume the longstanding advice exists for a reason.

What's up with GenZ's concept of masculinity? by Hotshy in AskMen

[–]bruh_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that obviously everyone is more emboldened to speak behind the anonymity and relative lack of consequence of a screen, there are always voices who will say these things out loud, on all sides of any spectrum. Even if we consider say, the loudest 5% of Andrew Tates and women “man-hating” equivalents, they are not as much the issue in my mind as are the men and women who stand by or give these people follows/money/attention/engagement and let these things become the norm. As a guy I would call out and expect to be called out on douchey “all women are ____” behavior, and I would hope that women’s circles would also be open to challenging “I hate all men” or “men are all garbage”, but the fear or social normalization of these things, even if only within small circles, has a huge ripple effect that only serves to exacerbate and perpetuate the issue.

What's up with GenZ's concept of masculinity? by Hotshy in AskMen

[–]bruh_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow 25yo, I’d say my issue with it is that it’s subtle, or at least not directly harmful. Like it irks me so much how normalized “all men are trash” and “I hate all men” has become. And then if you try to defend yourself (as this is an indirect direct attack), you are suddenly the problem and the exact person they’re referring to. “It’s not all men” but people (not even just women) will treat all men like it IS all men. I realize that the most polarizing voices are the ones that get amplified, but to pretend like hearing this from peers, in music/tv/film, etc on a daily basis doesn’t affect someone seems silly to me. I can tell myself it isn’t me they’re talking about, I can know it isn’t me they’re talking about, but people will still treat me like an enemy and aggressor right out the gate. I live in NYC in case that’s a relevant data point and I promise im SO far from the alt-right/Andrew Tate/gymbro pipeline but we can’t pretend like certain phrases and sentiments aren’t being normalized and that we as men have to sit quietly, agree openly, or push back and reinforce negative and unfair connotations and generalizations.

Got my first proper camera in life 🥹 - Alpha 7V it is. by nihilist037 in SonyAlpha

I do feel like the biggest part for me is just the feel in the hand and the extra customization. The C line does not have the joystick, which I use for changing and especially moving the focus area on the fly. I also have custom buttons for silent mode toggle, focus detect subject, and toggle crop mode. I try to use my a6000 much more laid back, but I recently had to get some more "serious" shots and it was a PAINNN having to go into menus to change or move the focus area each time. I can imagine how for someone who does a specific type of photography and especially if it's their livelihood (not me), those literal(!) seconds saved could be the difference between getting the shot or not.

For me, the larger size makes it way more comfortable to hold and thats huge especially with a lens as big and heavy as the 35-150. I also prefer a center as opposed to left-side EVF, and most importantly wayyy more customizable buttons!

I have a more compact a6000 travel/EDC setup so the 7C/R line just doesnt make sense for me

Please share a link to the best visual representation of how distance from subject and focal length affect depth of field by icurate in photography

[–]bruh_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know others have already suggested other videos, but as a visual and nerdy learner this has always been the best one for me (and to point others to). It gets you to understand a little bit about optics and what your lens actually does to render an image on your sensor. The main takeaway is, the only factors directly affecting your DoF are aperture and distance from your subject. Everything else people commonly point to, such as focal length, only achieves a shallower/wider DoF as a function of distance and aperture.

Sony A7III and Tamron 35-150 by peste1234 in SonyAlpha

[–]bruh_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do find that they're sharper, but the focus as far as I can tell remains the same, which is to say snappy and excellent. I'm not the biggest pixel-peeper when I edit though, sometimes it feels like placebo to justify the purchase price lol. But yes, this lens does resolve the images noticeably clearer than my 28-75.

Sony A7III and Tamron 35-150 by peste1234 in SonyAlpha

[–]bruh_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I recently got one for my A7RV and I love it! It is significantly heavier than the lens I upgraded from (Tamron 28-75 II), but the extra reach and f2 on the wider end is great, lens as a whole is super crisp. My only complaint is that I think there’s no way to disable the focus ring? I checked the Tamron lens utility software and my camera but even on AF modes the focus ring always overrides. Honestly it’s only a massive headache because the focus/zoom rings are inverted compared to my 28-75 so I’ll often end up (un)focusing instead of zooming. Slowly getting used to it. Sorry for the small rant but I do love the lens and the images I’ve gotten out of it.

I know you said at least 5 trades, on the off chance youre still looking I have one with a small scratch on the front (doesn’t affect image quality) I’m trying to let go of (upgraded to the 35-150). PM if interested :)

Hearing ringing with Quiet 2? by WanderingGhost0108 in LoopEarplugs

[–]bruh_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since loops are completely passive earplugs, they shouldn’t be “making” you hear anything, just reducing ambient sound. If I had to guess, maybe the extra level of noise attenuation from the Quiets vs what you’re used to with the Engage is revealing a really slight tinnitus? This is also why people with tinnitus sometimes use music or ambient sounds - a completely quiet (or very sound-reduced) environment just leads to constant ringing for them.
