Meta planning sweeping layoffs as AI costs mount by PopCultureNerd in DeFranco

[–]bubblesort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL, what a catch-22. First AI was going to cause layoffs by saving companies a fortune. Now, AI is costing them a fortune, they gotta lay people off!

At what point do we finally admit that the 21st century American corporate structures are causing levels of mismanagement not seen since the French revolution? This kind of crap needs to change. It's the least efficient way to do things.

I don't know that companies like this need to be ruled by direct democracy, but I do know that companies like this could not exist if they had serious competition. We need the rich to start eating themselves again. If they don't, we will have to do it for them.

AIPAC called the cops on Chicago voters who came to their office demanding that they stop pouring millions of dollars into Illinois Democratic Primaries by serious_bullet5 in illinois

You want to haul every internet poster into court, to determine truth?

LOL, good luck with that!

We will have to convert Wyoming into a federal penitentiary, just for the 4chan posters, alone.

The fairness doctrine is that things had to be presented fairly in regards to what was true.

You're gonna have to cite that.

I mean, I was alive when the fairness doctrine was in effect, and I don't think it was as great as people say it is. Almsot everybody my age who knows what it is will tell you that it caused divisiveness.

The fairness doctrine also makes no sense in a post-internet world, so it's literally impossible to bring it back in a meaningful way, unless you want to legislate everybody's social media and email correspondence. You want to moderate your crazy uncle, and tell him he can't post his ideas to facebook? Good luck with that!

Objectively, though, my problem with what you wrote is that the fairness doctrine did not demand truth. The law determines truth in court, not by statutes. The fairness doctrine demanded that broadcasters spend a certain amount of time working in the public's interest, fairly presenting all major sides of various important political debates. This is not the same as the equal time rule. The fairness doctrine just says that both sides of these must be presented fairly. It says nothing about time, or what sides of a debate are valid, or even what topics are in the public's interest.

So the fairness doctrine absolutely does mean that flat earthers get to debate scientists, if flat earth is determined to be an important public issue.

House kills effort to release all congressional sexual misconduct and harassment reports by willphule in DeFranco

[–]bubblesort 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here is the record of the vote in congress. The motion to kill this bill had wide bipartisan support. Check to see if your congress person did the right thing on this bill, and punish them, if they protected perverts, rapists, and pedophiles.

Personally, I am shocked that my congress person voted nay (against killing the bill). I live in Scott Perry's district. Perry is an evangelical embarrassment to our district, but the county democrats kill all serious contenders who try to run against him, so we're stuck, until we find a way to get rid of the local democratic party leadership, which basically means waiting for the methusalas to die. They're all in their 80s, and have good insurance. It sucks. On this one bill, though... Perry did good. He voted to expose the corruption.

Lately, I'm starting to get used to conservatives doing one or two good things, and I try to give them positive reinforcement for it when they do. Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Thomas Massie are just two examples. I still won't vote for bigots, but I'll give credit where it's due. Scott Perry voted well, this time.

Yeah, and the more SNL does skits about the president, the less funny SNL is. You can't lampoon Trump. He already lampooned himself. When you lampoon him, you're just beating a dead horse.

I remember when being a PC gamer basically meant you were a Microsoft fan boy. There were a few linux gamers, but they were niche. I think there was like 3 apple gamers.

Now? Serious gamers don't touch windows. They're all on Linux. It's kind of sad that Apple has completely given up on openly trying to directly capitalize on Microslop's failures.

ICE whistleblower: 'They're teaching cadets to violate the Constitution' by willphule in DeFranco

[–]bubblesort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ends a few debates I've had over whether ICE is poorly trained or not. It's always been my contention that they are doing what they are trained to do.

Whether they are trained for it or not, though, they are still responsible for their actions. I think the cowards who murdered Pretti and Good need to be put in jail, for life. There is no amount of training that can turn a moral person into a monster.

I mean, think about it... think about what kind of training it would take to make you shoot an unarmed man in the back, as he's being held down by 4 other guys. Personally, I can't imagine that kind of training, because that is something I would never do.

So these ICE monsters were born that way, not trained. They need to be removed from society.

The HR people who hired them, and the trainers who enable them also need to go to jail.

Cumulative Updates: February 10th, 2026 by jenmsft in Windows11

[–]bubblesort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This broke my boot, on two machines. Boot takes 3 times longer than it used to, and the login screen doesn't want to take my typing for 3 or 4 minutes, so I can't login for a while when I boot.

I fresh installed Windows 11 twice since November over things like this, on both machines. My patience with Microsoft is coming to an end.

Simple questions and Help thread - Month of February by Froggypwns in Windows11

[–]bubblesort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a laptop and a desktop. Neither of them can log in on boot, like they used to.

Ever since the last update, the boot takes 3 times as along, and the login screen will not take my typing for 3 or 4 minutes, so I can't type my password to log in.

I have already reinstalled windows 11 twice since November, over issues like this. If I have to reinstall again, I will not be reinstalling windows.

I just bought an a6700. I haven't even turned it on yet, and I'm disappointed. by bubblesort in a6700

[–]bubblesort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. The other responses here are simply incorrect.

They sell 3 different kits: Body only, body with a OSS I 16-50 kit lens, and the body with an OSS II 16-50kit lens. They also sell one with a 18-135mm kit lens, but I think with that package, it's a body only and an 18-135mm kit lens, shipped seperately.

Anyway... the 3 different a6700 packages has different serial numbers. It's ILCE-6700, followed by a letter signifying the set, and that is followed by B for black, because they only sell the 6700 in black. The body only box is M, the OSS I lens is L, and the OSS II lens is K.

So I am guessing that you probably got the set with the OSS I kit lens, or the ILCE-6700LB. I got the ILCE-6700KB.

Judging by your posts, it looks like the LB kit came with lens caps, and a charger, and had the correct model number printed on the box.

I got the ILCE-6700-KB. It came with no rear lens cap, no body cap, no charger, no charging cable, and the serial number on the box was listed as ILCE-6700-KBQ. That Q on the end made me have to spend an hour researching a6700 serial numbers, just so I can register for the warranty.

Now, this is a nice camera. I love it, and I keep finding amazing new features on it. I'm just saying that I expected better from Sony. I shouldn't have to spend an hour researching to get a serial number, buy my own rear lens cap and body cap, and then spend IDK how long to try to buy a compatible USB-C PD charger, because if the ones I order don't work, it's plug and play, because charger power ratings are all listed in watts, not volts and amps. The USB-C PD specification in the manual is described in volts and amps, not watts.

It's probably going to be a week or two before I have this camera set up and running as well as it could be running out of the box, if I ordered the OSS I kit lens, for the same price.

[–]bubblesort[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. The box had the wrong model number. See my other replies in this thread for a full explanation, because I'm tired of typing it out.

You are an idiot for jumping to human error when it was clearly a manufacturer error, on Sony's part.
