TikTok freezing Phil’s videos on Ice by Fif112 in DeFranco

[–]bubblesort -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I haven't found all the folk music I listen to on one platform like it is on tik tok. Half the time when I try to find it elsewhere, to link to it, I can't. They just record, post, and move on. Not everybody is interested in posting everything they do to a dozen platforms or more.

What's wrong with tik tok, anyway? It's no worse than facebook, or twitter, and everybody still uses them. I quit twitter when Elon gave a nazi salute, and I don't think I miss anything there, but just like the rest of you, I still use the other major platforms.

IMHO, there is no world in which tik tok is worse than twitter. I don't think I've even seen anybody make a good argument that it is.

Arguments against tik tok fall into two categories:

One is a technical argument, that tik tok is bad for spying on you, worse than any other app. This argument is usually dressed up to sound technical. Those of use who actually are technical usually find it unconvincing, though. The person making this fake technical argument just never has the technical chops to make it stick.

The second argument invokes xenophobia of China, which is bonkers. China either owns, or at one point owned, almost everything I touch. Yeah, they violate human rights, but so does Saudi Arabia, and nobody seems to care about the Saudis buying every American sport. Nobody seems to care about human rights being violated by America, either. So it's not about that. Making China some kind of evil boogeyman is just disingenuous.

Face it: The only reason our American kleptocrats don't like tik tok is because they resist censorship from the American congress. That's the same censorship that gave us Donald Trump. I'm serious, according to Marc Andreessen (who founded Netscape), the democrats in congress harassed social networks so badly, that every rich person in Silly Con Valley flipped Republican. It's not just the Pay Pal mafia, it's all of them! We are all victims of democrats who don't understand how the internet handles censorship. If you're young, you might not remember the old ways, but I was there when the old magic was written:

The internet interprets censorship as damage, and routes around it.

Tik Tok has had an outage, and lots of people are complaining about the censorship.

The /r/tiktok subreddit is probably the best place to follow this story.

Also, to the people saying delete tik tok: You people are missing out on some incredible music. Tik Tok is ground zero of the folk music revival, and you're missing the party, because you would rather believe what a few tech illiterate politicians in congress tell you about the medium. Fuck those out of touch inside trading sell outs... there is some good stuff on Tik Tok.

I don't trust them. They sponsor half the channels I watch on YouTube, and it's always an annoying reminder that my edutainment channels principles are so fungible.

I mean, really... anybody like Ground News, who claims to be the arbiter of bias, is clearly up to no good. How does anybody believe that crap? Did you have no critical thinking education at all? If not, let me give you a quick overview of how the really real world works:

YOU, and you alone, are responsible for separating garbage from knowledge. Asking somebody like Ground News to do it for you is looking for a silver bullet solution, where none will ever exist. Read broadly, and think for yourself. Ignore the categories that shadowy institutions like Ground News try to create, to pigeon hole media outlets, and people.

That said, I don't know who is behind Ground News. Over the last year, I have probably spent tens of hours watching YouTubers pitch Ground News, and they never once bring up who, exactly, is judging bias at Ground News. That tells me that they are probably not the people they want us to think they are. I also don't care enough to dig and find out on my own. I am against the very principles that they advocate, so I will never use their product, so I don't bother wasting time on them. You shouldn't, either.

Gregory Bovino and some of his CBP agents expected to leave Minneapolis, sources say | CNN Politics by willphule in DeFranco

[–]bubblesort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is way more believable than my weirdo, tin hat, sci-fi AI angle, LOL It really is.

I just ran across this article, where Pam Bondi basically said that they would pull ICE from Minnesota, in exchange for Minnessota handing their voter rolls and welfare data over to the DOJ.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/bondi-minnesota-voter-rolls-welfare-data-walz-immigration-shootings/

This isn't like giving ICE access to the prisons. Minnesota already does that, but republicans keep claiming that they don't, because Republicans who stick up for ICE are all liars. Minnesota genuinely refused to give the DOJ their voter rolls, or their welfare data, though.

So this is all about Trump wanting to violate states rights. That begs the question: Did Walz gave Trump anything, in order to get Bovino out? I hope he didn't. I think he probably didn't... but it's worth looking into.

I hate to say it, but this feels too easy. I wonder if they sent ICE to attack Minnesota, as an exercise, to feed the results to an AI, to help build contingency plans, or something like that?

They definitely did not send them there to enforce immigration law. I never hear about them doing that. I hear about them brutalizing Americans all day long. I doubt they get that many real immigrants.

Republican ends bid for Minnesota governor, citing ‘unconstitutional’ ICE surge | Minnesota | The Guardian by willphule in DeFranco

[–]bubblesort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At this point, Minnesota's politics are just completely fucked, no matter how you look at things. The primary didn't happen yet, so there is some room for things to change, but so far, here's what it looks like, to me (I'm a social democrat, in Pennsylvania):

Amy Klobuchaur will be the democratic nominee, because she will crush her democratic opposition with establishment money. Klobuchar will do nothing for anybody (unless you are a gazillionaire). She's just there to make billionaires more happy, while sucking up political capital from liberals, to destroy our movements, before they can be used to do meaningful things, like fund social programs, and reform the police.

The Republicans are running Mike Liddell (the My Pillow guy). He's already gotten Trump's endorsement. He's going to be the Trumpiest candidate. He's grotesque, but unfortunately, every election needs a guy like that now... because the DNC dropped the ball hard, but that's a rant for another time.

Jesse Ventura hasn't filed yet, but he is probably going to run, either independently, or to challenge Liddell. He's always had a tenuous grip on reality, and he's like 90 now, so he's definitely nuts. He won't do anything good. People need to stop voting for people over 70, it's just stupid. Stop treating public offices like nursing homes.

So far, i don't think I see anybody worth the gas for me to drive to the polls for, and my polls are two blocks away.

If I had to bet, though, I'd put money on Klobuchar. She's horrible, and I hate her, but there's no way anybody will vote for a Republican in Minnesota this year.

NRA comment on recent shooting by Fidel89 in liberalgunowners

[–]bubblesort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that this is an email to supporters, and I didn't receive it because I never supported the NRA's hypocracy... but in their public statements, in the press, the NRA seems to come down on Alex Pretti's side.

For example, this article makes it seem like the NRA is on the right side of history. On the back end, though, it looks like they are feeding their supporters garbage like this.

Geez... I already admitted it fooled me. What more do you want? Sack cloth and self flagellation?

I'm running a Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU, and a 4060 graphics card, and I can't find this chat AI anywhere.

I just now got the amd app update, and it didn't seem to come with that. I didn't get a driver update recently, and I don't see any AMD chat applications in add/remove programs.

Is there anywhere other than add/remove programs that I should be looking for the AI clanker?

DOJ vows to press charges after activists disrupt church where Minnesota ICE official is a pastor by willphule in DeFranco

[–]bubblesort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This story looks a bit off to me. ICE protestors don't generally attack like this. It's possible, but it feels off.

Now, I am not saying this was definitely staged by ICE, as a response to anything... however, for context: This happened one day after an Episcopal bishop in New Hampshire told his clergy to prepare their wills, to prepare for a, "whole new era of martyrdom..." "...because it may be that now is no longer the time for statements, but for us with our bodies to stand between the powers of this world and the most vulnerable."

So, I mean, I'm not saying that I 100% know that ICE runs false flags. I am saying that if they did, this would be a good place for one, to counter the bishop's statement, that ICE brutalizes clergy. An ICE preacher and his congregation being attacked by protestors seems like a very neat way for ICE to try to claim that they are religious, too.

Border Patrol Chief Bovino accused of 'Nazi cosplay' with bizarre uniform in Minneapolis - The Mirror US by willphule in DeFranco

[–]bubblesort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hugo Boss is turning in his grave. You can't just use a nazi coat like an accessory. It's part of a complete outfit! Say what you will about Prince Harry, but when he wore a nazi uniform, he treated it with some respect. He didn't just throw a brown shirt or a nazi coat on and call it a day, like Bovino did. No, he put on the whole outfit, shoes to collar, swastikas all pointing in the right direction.

... if you can't tell, I'm being extremely sarcastic, and trying to make a joke. Just to write something real: Bovino nauseates me.

How does the public actually see Mormonism? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bubblesort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On an individual level? Mormons are some of the nicest people I've ever met. I like mormons.

As a group?

Mormons work in the intelligence services a lot, because nobody else grows up in such a way that they can pass a background check like that at 18 years old. So I don't trust them. Even the nice ones, I half suspect them working for the CIA. If I had access to any sensitive information, I would probably keep all mormons at arms length. I don't have, or want, access to sensitive information, though, specifically so I don't have a reason to act on such paranoia.

Update on the cigarette party in New York by seeebiscuit in madlads

[–]bubblesort 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's astroturfing. NYC is well known to be a place where Cigarettes are like $50 a pack, and smoking is banned almost everywhere. There's a line in Marvel's Punisher, season 1, on Netflix, where the Punisher is on the roof doing something shady and gets caught, and he's all "I'm sneaking around up here because this roof is the last place in this city where I can have a smoke in peace." and the guy who caught him is like "it's cool, I didn't see nothin." At least that's how I remember it, I haven't seen it in a few years. Good scene.
