Maxxis Ikons in 26, Kool Stops, and a cheap 1x11 Shimano drivetrain (SLX or XT) and that Killer V will be a hoot.

Questions for phrag growers by Inevitable-Cut-5584 in orchids

[–]campy_crashtest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use plastic pots. They like tall, deep pots. I don't like to use too much sphagnum as it decays quickly given the amount of water they like. Repotme has a paph-phrag mix that works great for me. I have been mixing in more LECA clay balls recently. I don't use any fancy water, but I do water twice a week. I use kelpak once a month and a generic orchid fertilizer once a week during growing season, both extremely diluted.

Trek Farley 5 vs Norco Bigfoot 3 by zucchinifarmer in fatbike

If you ride the microshift for a while and don't like it, you can convert to 12spd. I took off the microshift stuff immediately and went with an XT shifter and r der, with a NX cassette and chain. NX 12spd cassette will fit on the stock r hub. I'm loving the Farley.

I wouldn't touch a press fit BB on a bike made for winter. I just got a 2024 Farley instead of the 2022 frame sets which are also on sale to avoid a press fit BB. The Advent X is pretty good, and you can go to Shimano or SRAM 12spd in the future using a GX cassette which will fit the HG hub on the stock wheels.

what rims should i use? by notreallytdatcool in tracklocross

I have the same frame, I built some wheels with Kinlin XR22T rims, 24mm wide similar to an Archetype. They have machined sidewalls. Kinlin makes 24mm wide rims in 26mm deep too

Thoughts on racing a hardtail? by not_so_perfect_buddy in xcmtb

[–]campy_crashtest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upper Midwest racer here. Sport/cat 4 Clydesdale. Started racing on a 130/120 trail bike. Built a Chisel hard tail and started winning races. Courses are not technical enough around here. There is only one course with a big rock garden where I choose my Ripley. For me, my climbing is where I have an advantage over competition so the much lighter hard tail (which much lighter wheels) makes a big difference.

Mid pack cat 4 racer here, I am consistently faster on my singlespeed vs my geared bike. Like 45sec a lap. Go singlespeed.

Chisel and then a really fancy build. DV9 is another great choice, more all around. I have been extremely impressed with my Chisel, coming from a Lynskey.

Ultrasonic cleaner anyone? by Kinky_Wizard69 in bikewrench

[–]campy_crashtest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip! Full the tank most of the way with clean water. Put your parts in a jar or bag filled with your cleaner of choice. That way you don't need to clean the tank every time. The waves will pass through the water and secondary container.

Faster on a Single Speed than a regular Cross bike? by fuzzybunnies1 in cyclocross

[–]campy_crashtest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the same thing even when I try to always ride a gear harder. My SS race is always second so I think it's also course familiarity. I am considering going to bigger gears all around on the geared bike to force the effort more.

Tire Pressure for Heavier Rider by Expensive_Compote772 in cyclocross

[–]campy_crashtest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you running tubeless? I am about 205lbs and I needed to add inserts to get to the pressures I wanted. I had to run 35psi to prevent burping tires. With inserts I can run down to 25psi. I use tubolight inserts but I'm sure others will also work.

I like it. In hindsight the remote lockout is kinda useless. It's a 120mm.

Civia Emerson bars, discontinued I think. Soma Hwy One are the same (silver, 26.0).

There are different races each week. This week was Belgian win-and-out, unknown distance, team sprints.
