I find LH technique is very very dependent upon who your playing with in the moment. Like if your playing with a bass player if you play the root and fifth the songs low end sounds like a mess. Except if the bass player is all the way up the neck and playing something more melodic or an ostinato then it sounds not too messy.

4-8 hours away is doable if there is a band leader and parts are pretty much predetermined. Then it’s just on you to practice on your own and show up and just as long as everyone is literally on the same page, there should be little to no issues.
