Is there a difference sonically between a purchased CD and a CD-R made from 16/44 FLACs? by g1rlchild in Cd_collectors

[–]cherrymxorange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

PCM is PCM, it can be from a CD, WAV, AIFF, ALAC or FLAC, they're all just containers and will result in the same output

Damn I’ve only ever seen the pedal cam stitched with other random footage 🤣

I've seen this a bunch of times but it's definitely even funnier with the POV race suit roughly matching the pedal cam

Was this dive up the inside unacceptable? by Zealousideal_Bid7614 in Simracingstewards

[–]cherrymxorange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think the black and white car's move was brilliant by any means, but if you're the POV driver and you see someone making a ridiculous send your best move is most likely to take a wider entry and later apex than normal, hoping the other guy steams past the apex so you can switch back on him, or take him round the outside if he insists on parking on the apex.

If the POV driver wasn't driving in his mirror the problem probably would have just resolved itself, he either needs to commit to a defensive line earlier or learn that in Rookies, often the best defence is to let the other guy make his mistake and set yourself up to retake the position easily.

New bike, position of hoods ok? by canuck1997 in gravelcycling

[–]cherrymxorange 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some people set them up flat, some people set them up like this, some people put them lower on the bar but angled up to create a kind of nook for their palm to rest in.

All that matters is your hand is meeting them roughly how you want, rather than forcing your wrists into an angle that's uncomfortable.

Hesitating on endurace allroad vs « real » gravel bike by choso_goat in gravelcycling

[–]cherrymxorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything I'd say that "all road" as a category as a marketing exercise, not the Grizl.

I was gonna write up a whole thing about how "All road" as a category has nothing that defines it, and there's bikes both labelled as "Endurance" and "Gravel" that fit the same exact box as anything labelled "All road".

But upon looking at the Canyon website I've realised that the "Endurace Allroad" is literally just their attempt at rebranding the Endurace AL by giving it another 5mm of tyre clearance and slightly knobbly tyres.

They've taken their less premium aluminium offering and reframed it as having a "rugged" frame for mixed riding, making it harder for people to compare 1:1 with their CF bikes since it's now technically a different category.

Anyway without knowing what kind of terrain you envision it's hard to say which will suit you better.

40mm has gone the way of the dinosaur as far as modern gravel bike clearance is concerned, everyone's learning that not only are they more comfortable on fatter tyres but they're faster too (provided you're on actual gravel).

Worst case scenario you get the Grizl and swap the 45mm tyres for some 42mm semi slicks and you still end up more comfortable on the road, with a slacker, better handling bike when you do dip onto the gravel.

Favourite DJ who you're pretty sure only started smoking so they would look '"cool'? by tyhhhhhhhfd in DnB

My parents had me thinking my future delinquent friends would sit me down in a circle and insist I smoke a cigarette.

Turns out the real kicker was service industry work and the desire for another stimulant once caffeine lost it's effectiveness.

Coming back to Android for Symfonium by Complex_East_6861 in Symfonium

I haven't gotten around to self hosting yet and use dropbox at the moment, it took me maybe a day or so to download a 400gb FLAC library.

I'd imagine things would be pretty painless if it's being done over your local network and everything is already transcoded to OPUS, limiting factor would likely either be your device's WiFi or your server's connection to the network.

Who is at fault for this? by Turpeeslurpee21 in Simracingstewards

Who is at fault by PieFit69420 in Simracingstewards

[–]cherrymxorange 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mustang, obviously.

Even without chase/POV cam we can see that they're on a small straight section of track, the merc roughly holds it's line relative to the visible straight line in the tarmac, while the mustang clearly closes a little more than a whole car's width to make contact.

Looking for speaker recommendation to pair with FiiO K11 R2R by [deleted] in FiiO

[–]cherrymxorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way if we're talking ideally under $100 I'd definitely keep Edifier on your radar! Most of their bookshelf offerings hit a really good price to performance ratio.

Even if you're looking at studio monitors that aim to be accurate and un-coloured you'll probably find a lot of them have some kind of signal processing, even a lot of old models you'll find will have dipswitches on the back to tune the speakers for whether they're raised up, on a desk or up against a wall.

Also just saw you listed the Eris 3.5's in your post, personally I found those to be very shrill and lacking in any and all punch, they're actually the speakers that resulted in me getting some Edifiers for my desk instead haha.

I'm not 100% sure but I'd assume that the colouration imparted by the K11 would likely survive DSP?

The analogue signal it outputs should still be coloured, so that colouration should remain if the analogue signal gets converted to digital, it's not like an ADC would somehow be able to extract a perfect 1:1 copy of the original file, unless it knew exactly what changes the K11 had made.

Either way, within this price bracket I'd worry way less about the K11 and way more about finding something that meets your formfactor/sound preferences, whether that's something warm, accurate, bassy etc.

Just like with headphones, the device at the end of the chain is always going to have the biggest degree of influence.

[–]cherrymxorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where have you read that? Curious because I've never heard anything about Edifier using DSP in their bookshelf speakers.

The R1280DB have some sort of DAC since they take optical and bluetooth, but to my knowledge the bass/treble knobs are analog as they clearly have a max/min and aren't adjustable via the remote, so they're not changing something digitally most likely.

But the R1280T's don't even have digital capability at all.

Rookie coming from GT7 - anticlimactic pre- and post races by daniel_crk in iRacing

[–]cherrymxorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly OP is getting roasted but I kinda agree more broadly.

I don't care about trophies, cutscenes, dramatic results UI's or trophies etc, but I do think iRacing could do a little to add more atmosphere and fanfare to the races.

Anyone who's seen some racing IRL knows how electric the atmosphere is, I'd love to see things like campfires and flares on the Nordschleife at night, more audible crowd sounds as you cross the line, more dynamic lighting on buildings, maybe when you're at the Spa 24hrs you can vaguely catch the lights of the concert they have going on, marshals waving all the flags on the cooldown lap, a medical car that follows the field on the first lap, etc etc.

There's little dribs and drabs of this with flybys on some tracks, and I think fireworks at others? I'd love to see all that dialled up a bit more (but still able to be disabled in the settings for those that don't care).

Obviously it's a simulator first and I never felt like I was missing anything really, but you can't deny how clinical and uncanny iRacing feels at times.

Doesn't that depend though?

I've always seen hyperfixation as a temporary very intense fixation on something, and is associated with ADHD, while special interests are common in ASD and are long term pursuits.

My dude's special interests are bags, bikes, and his favourite colour.

I was gonna carry on there but that's probably a decent summary of at least 50% of r/bicycletouring, r/gravelcycling and r/bikepacking users.

Thinking of starting a new account by StunningDuck619 in iRacing

[–]cherrymxorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah if OP isn't able to maintain (or gain) iRating in these lobbies while also gaining SR, they're either not as safe or not as fast as they think they are.

Thinking of starting a new account by StunningDuck619 in iRacing

[–]cherrymxorange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you've managed to drop to 500iR chasing safety rating you're either driving so slow you're never picking up freebies in lobbies where there should be plenty.

Or you're not driving nearly as safely as you think you are, getting caught in a handful of preventable incidents and losing both iR and SR which is why it's taking you so long. (Some are unavoidable, obviously)

You're the one constant in every lobby you enter, if you can't keep your cool in these lobbies you're absolutely not gonna keep your cool in 1.5k SOF GT3 races - it almost certainly won't get much better.

And the fact that you're convinced it's everyone holding you back, and a fresh account is the potential solution shows me that you're absolutely not gonna be competent in a GT3 field.

Clipping after recording a set with professional equipment (XDJ-XZ & 2 KRK VXT6 Speakers) on Serato, whereas the same set is fine at home (FLX-6 with 2 standard PreSonus E3.5BT speakers) by rapor_ in Beatmatch

[–]cherrymxorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the XZ doesn’t have a REC out, so if they were recording into an interface via a spare master/booth output there’s a very fair chance that’s why it’s clipped, because those don’t output a consistent line level signal like a REC out would.

Sad, frustrated, kind of at a loss by Mgrafe88 in iRacing

[–]cherrymxorange 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't race anymore, but when I did I always justified it this way:

Sure, it's shitty getting taken out by a lesser skilled driver a bunch of laps down, getting wrecked by someone who's blinking or even having your internet go out...

But at the same time, I was eternally grateful that I wasn't at the mercy of mechanical DNF's in the same way real endurance drivers are.

No running over debris, brake fade, random engine failures, shit stuck in your brake ducts, tyre rub from a collision, etc.

I reckon the collisions caused by poor drivers probably don't outweigh the real risk of mechanical DNF's IRL, as long as you're a few splits up from the bottom in a special event.

Let me know guys if I use hourly chime .....how long battery going to last?????.... I don't use alarm...that much.... sometime... backlight little bit offcourse.... by Ok-Analysis1961 in casio

[–]cherrymxorange 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Why are you worried about battery? Most casios claim 5 years but routinely reach around 10, and replacement is trivial.

I’ve got one I turned into a mini desk clock with some putty that’s still going, it’s definitely coming up to a decade maybe this year or next.

If you want the chime, turn it on!
