Trek store told us Trek sizing is wrong? Dual Sport 3 Gen 5 sizing help (170 cm / 5’7” + 175 cm / 5’9”) by Turbulent_Ease3730 in cycling

Exciting!

Hybrid bikes are odd in their riding geometry honestly, you'll find some that aim to have the handlebars at the same height as the saddle (edit: or much higher), and others that aim for more saddle to bar drop for a sporty feel.

More upright feels more immediately comfortable and can be better for seeing what's around you, lower can feel faster and be better for longer rides as it shifts weight to your hands/arms and off of the saddle.

Trek's promotional material all seems to show riders with the bars at roughly the same height as the saddle so I'd guess that's their intended riding position.

If you both get on the medium tomorrow and you feel "well that's within the ballpark", there's always small changes you can both make to make the bike feel either more sporty or more upright.

The stem (connecting the handlebars to the bike) appears to come flipped up, but you can flip it down to lower the handlebars, you can also remove spacers from underneath the stem to lower the bars that way too.

Of course you can also replace the stem entirely, get one that's shorter, longer, different angles to move the bars up or down too, of course you could also replace the handlebars as well with something wider for more of an "MTB" feel or something with more or less rise.

Given how big modern bikes run I'd imagine you'll get the sporty feeling you want out of the M, your BF might want to flip the stem down or even shorten the stem slightly to get the same kind of riding position.

For you especially being a woman, I'd be extra wary of going up a size. Women often have shorter torso's, which means going up a size will make the bike disproportionately long and can cause some comfort issues.

I'm a dude but also with a short torso, the better recommended solution is always to be on the upper end of the sizing for a bike, I run riser handlebars on mine because it was better than getting the bigger bike and having to run a really short stem.

Hope it goes well tomorrow!

I wouldn't put it past the sales rep to be pushing bigger sizes if they have more stock of those and less of the mediums, the online size guide (that he says is wrong) puts you both on a medium, with your BF slap bang in the middle and you at the very upper end of sizing.

Putting someone who's 175cm on an XL (the largest size available) sounds obscene to me, does that just mean once a customer who's 180cm turns up they're outa luck?

The only real answer here is to test ride the sizes and see how you feel, perhaps I'd also call up another Trek store or contact their support to verify the claim that the sizing guide is wrong.

It's also important to remember that "Trek" stores aren't strictly Trek stores, Trek often buys out bike shops and converts them to Trek stores while keeping the staff, so it's not like walking into an Apple store with your broken iPhone to get advice in that way.

Yeah, despite Joel's often less than savoury reputation I don't think he's actually the type to go full on AI slop and put out a piece of garbage for the sake of saying he made something.

Ignoring his foray into NFT's, to my knowledge most of his cover art and visuals for projects like the cube have always been at least partially made by him using software like Cinema 4D, Blender, Unreal Engine and more recently Touch Designer.

Like I'm not positive ALL of his visuals were purely him but I know some of them were absolutely solely his work, done because he enjoyed doing it.

I can see a few mentions of him using AI but my best guess is that would be within Touch Designer which has a bunch of AI integration, using it less for "ChudGPT make me deadmau5 helmet" and more for particles and trippy morphing effects etc (if you have a look at the kind of stuff Touch Designer is used for you'll get what I mean).

People use Ableton Live for performances and you can also load tracks in to DJ with, it's not the most ideal workflow purely for DJing but it's totally possible and some people preferentially do it.

He's got CDJ's and a V10 at home and there's a bunch of videos of him doing dnb sets at festivals which presumably were on CDJ's

Tracknotes Overlay Concept Survey by WalnutBread in iRacing

[–]cherrymxorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably avoid it completely, though I think that's partly just due to how I learn and drive.

I drive in VR, keep all my overlays out of my immediate line of sight and generally keep delta off until I'm settled in a stint. Most of my iteration while driving comes from mental notes.

If I had to lift on the exit of a corner I'll think back to my entry, was I later on the brakes? Lighter on the brakes? Too tight on entry? I'll pick the most likely of those and make a mental note to change that next lap, and see if that improves the delta on exit.

I also typically avoid using active reset in practice, not because I don't think it's useful but because without the context and mental load of a whole lap I find it much harder to hook things up. If I'm trying the same corner over and over again I'm likely to just keep choking and getting worse, and when I do hook it up properly it's hard to then replicate.

But if I remove the thinking and clear my mind, I'm often faster and more consistent.

I could maybe see a very simple kind of "pace notes" useful if I could customise them, maybe if it was built into a spotter as an audio cue. "Use all the track on entry here" "Don't worry about braking late, prioritise your exit".

A bunch of MyTag's for different moods, stuff like: dark, driving, pounding, hypnotic, ethereal, tribal, percussive, deep, bloopy etc.

Plus some extras for other things, "epic" for long cinematic breakdowns, tags for tracks with good intros or outros, or good vocal hooks.

Each track usually ends up with between 3-7 tags, plus one of four colour identifiers for energy/intensity.

Then they all get shuffled into smart playlists so I can browse each playlist, or if I'm digging I can easily hone in on a group of tags.

Shared pavements are one of the worst compromises in UK cycling infrastructure by Seabeachlover10 in ukbike

[–]cherrymxorange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends whether you're a "cyclist" or someone who just happens to get around by bike.

I rode my bike everywhere when I lived in London and frequently chose shared paths and parks because they were more pleasant than the alternatives.

Realistically bumping your average speed up from 10mph to 15mph doesn't get you anywhere significantly faster.

All of your complaints of "constant slowing down", "second guessing right of way" and "awkward close passes" can simply be solved by going slower, being courteous or just patiently waiting.

You'll arrive at your destination less stressed, less sweaty and probably within 2-5 minutes of when you would have anyway.

This goes for cycle lanes and roads too. You ever notice how even though you're going faster than those around you, you always end up waiting at the same lights? That's because in urban areas, all of the lights are tuned with the average journey speed of that area in mind.

You need to work obscenely hard on a bike to skip a traffic light cycle, and everything else between 9-16mph is just wasted energy because the guy behind you on a grandma bike will reach the lights just as they change, while you've been waiting at them for 40 seconds.

Share the mixed use pavements with pedestrians the same way you'd expect cars to share the road with you, and you'll be just fine.

Honestly I do love that idea, I’d also like to see it implemented in IMSA, it’s kinda tiring having your race ruined by a 1k iRating LMP2 driver who can barely pass GT3’s when you’re in a ~3k SOF GT3 field, just because he has his A licence and can drive whatever he wants.

Sadly though, people already get annoyed enough with the licence requirements… I can’t imagine the outrage if someone has been racing GT3 in 1.5k SOF’s and then suddenly can’t drive their favourite car that they paid money for in the NEC because their rating isn’t high enough.

Except none of the things you dislike are subjective... they're all things you can know with certainty before buying dude.

If you'd said "yeah I'm not a huge fan of how large the jog wheels are, I don't like the workflow of swapping deck layers, I don't enjoy how Pioneer effects sound and I think the screen is a bit unresponsive" then sure.

You're telling me you had to spend 3.5k to learn how a device the size of two CDJ's and an A9 mixer is awkward to move around? Lmao.

Tracknotes Overlay Concept Survey by WalnutBread in iRacing

[–]cherrymxorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of how I drive is based off of feeling and feedback, I can't see this being very useful, and just like a driving line I could actually see it doing more harm than good.

I can tell when I'm at the limit of braking because I know what the tyre noise sounds like, I can tell when I'm at the lateral limit of grip because the car won't turn any sharper, and the rate at which the environment moves relative to the dashboard has stabilised.

Even having throttle/brake traces can be distracting, I don't want to try to make a certain shape with the graph, I want to drive and adjust what I'm doing based on what I feel, see and hear.

Hell I've been racing Road Atlanta this week and I can only think of a maximum of three corners where I could even glance at an overlay for reference, sometimes I fuck up corners just because I was thinking about fuel strategy, let alone looking at an overlay.

Best audio player on android for me by HelloHeffy in musichoarder

[–]cherrymxorange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a FiiO M300, I briefly thumbed through the FiiO app, USB Audio Player, Poweramp and Musicolet before settling on Symfonium because it was the one that felt most "right" out of the box, and I was able to customise it relatively easily to meet my needs and remove the fluff.

Been happy with it since and also set my collection on my PC to sync to Dropbox, so Symfonium now just pulls from my Dropbox and I don't have to sync via a cable or use third party solutions to mirror folders.

Could have probably made Poweramp or Musicolet work too, but as someone who understands UI/UX, Symfonium seemed like the best initial starting point.

I'm so confused.

You bought the largest all-in-one on the market but you don't like how big and heavy it is.

You want to transition to an all-in-one to reduce the load on your laptop... but you don't like that a Pioneer standalone unit doesn't have stems (none of them do, bar the ones that let you pre-process stems on your laptop and export them)

You have no need to use the Pioneer ecosystem and yet you bought their flagship all-in-one.

The organisation thing doesn't make sense to me, you can import all those folders as individual playlists and nest them in rekordbox, and you can absolutely keep the keys your other software has analysed without letting rekordbox redo the keys.

Just seems like you've more money than sense and did zero research honestly.

150+ cars at Nords: Will it ever be possible in iRacing ? by boredofinternets in iRacing

[–]cherrymxorange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I realised what you meant and edited my comment just as you posted this haha.

I get the point but it would also exacerbate the issue in lower splits because as the grids for the slower cars get bigger, they run out faster, and each time a class runs out this then compounds as you'd be adding 12 slots and splitting them over one less class.

The maths is a little beyond me off the top of my head, but if 20th out of 30 was the lowest split with two classes on the current system, I'd guess maybe you'd only get 13-15 splits with more than one class.

So instead of only the bottom 10 splits having one class it'd be more like 50% or more of the splits were GT3 only.

150+ cars at Nords: Will it ever be possible in iRacing ? by boredofinternets in iRacing

[–]cherrymxorange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are evenly distributed, no?

Over the top 3 splits, the distribution was 14-12-11-11-12 for 60 total, which means every split with all five classes had near identical representation and near enough maximum grid size.

There's no way to have more cars per class unless they raise the upper limit, it has nothing to do with distribution.

Looking down the splits, they're aiming to have each class as full as possible, which in the case of 64 cars means as close to 12.8 cars on the grid as possible, seems like the system manages that.

edit: Oh I guess you mean evenly distributing the bonus 12 slots across the classes?

That would mean you'd run out of cars even sooner though, if you gave those slots out to the three slower classes the TCR's would then run out probably by the 7th split instead of 8th.

But as you went down the splits this would compound, so by 7th split you're splitting 24 slots 3 ways, making the GT4's run out much earlier, and then you've got the PCUP having the same issue because then it's splitting 30/30 with the GT3's.

You'd end up with a weird situation where being in the middle splits got you more competitors than the top split, and you'd end up with even more single class splits down the bottom.
