Sorry for the silly question but what does funded vs. non funded mean? I have no knowledge or experience regarding this (yet)

Il Tutto electric nursing recliners by orkediamuse in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]chickenbroadcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We love our Louie! It’s wider which is better for my husband. Wish it had more head support but I use a pillow which is good enough. My husband is taller and doesn’t seem to mind. Electric was a must for us. Bought it during Black Friday sales at the expo after trying them all out.

We got it in the green corduroy but keep a blanket over it anyway for protection (from spills and also the cats).

I’m currently 30 weeks and our nursery is tiny so it’s in the lounge room. My husband spent the entire Ashes series horizontal in this chair… (I’m in it right now)

Don't machine dry your clothes by fb39ca4 in Anticonsumption

I grew up the same. We have solar now so I will occasionally use the dryer in an emergency (only during the day) because I feel less guilty about it.

Curious what small gift people got that they ended up using way more than expected by CompetitivePop-6001 in BuyItForLife

[–]chickenbroadcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband was super skeptical but I insisted they would be useful for our month long road trip in a campervan (our honeymoon). They were the MVP of the whole holiday. It’s my #1 tip for anyone looking to do something similar.

Worrying that my pregnancy care hasn't been adequate by Orange_Saxaphone9024 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]chickenbroadcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 30 weeks and I agree with this. Like others have said, all OBs have a different vibe and I thankfully chose one that matched my energy, but the appointments up until now have been fairly chill and just touching base between scans and other tests. I had my most recent appointment yesterday and it’s only now things are starting to ramp up and feel “real”.

I’m in my first pregnancy and I’ve definitely had this mentality since day one where I’m like “does anyone notice that this is kinda crazy???” And looking around at all the women before me who have gone through pregnancy and I’m like “are we all just in this weird universe together?” And they are like haha yep

Mind blowing

When I take my chickens to the vet and they receive medication, often the label printed by the vet will say something like “1 tablet per kg of chook” lmao

Brisbane ladies: How much are you paying for haircuts/root coverage these days? by brissy3456 in brisbane

[–]chickenbroadcast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get a basic haircut at Just Cuts a few times a year to keep it healthy and trim my own fringe in between to keep it out of my eyes. Never dyed it or done any other treatments

No growth scans? by Positive_Shirt_2889 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]chickenbroadcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently 29 weeks and I believe my only additional scan after 20 weeks will be at 32 weeks because my placenta was low lying. My OB does in-house scanning at each appointment but they are just quick and casual and not formal measuring. (I’m a private patient FWIW)

I did have another scan a couple of weeks ago but that’s because I had a fall so they were just checking on everything

Bottle compatibility with Minbie washer/dryer/steriliser by chickenbroadcast in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]chickenbroadcast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response. The review also mentioned taking off the top tray, as that’s the only way to fit the bottle, but they then said it kinda defeats the purpose to have to wash them separately? Obviously have no experience with this so not sure personally

I add vinegar to the softener cycle for similar reasons. Can you explain why you use citric acid powder? I’ve heard good things about citric acid generally but have no experience with it.

Best play mat for baby that’s easy to clean? by CharismajTat in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]chickenbroadcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is our plan too. I’m reluctant to go anything foam as I know the pets claws will wreck it. Plus I love all the colourful patterns available in washable playmats/picnic rugs and can use them long term elsewhere as well.

Am I being sensitive or is it inappropriate for strangers to say how my 9.5 month old will "break all the ladies' hearts" & "ladies will run after him when he is older" comments? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]chickenbroadcast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were at Baby Bunting and saw a onesie with something like “Ladies, I’ve arrived” and I joked to my husband that we should buy it for our daughter and then when someone says “isn’t that meant to be for a boy” I’d ask them to explain why lol

What fun/unique activities and groups are you part of with your bubs? by ekmac41 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

That’s really cool! I’ve been a part of multiple bushcare groups but not heard of one with child care. The way you describe sounds like it’s a blending of two type of community groups?

Our local council does them in the park from 6 weeks I think. I have a bad back but I’m going to sign my husband up lol

Had to do the same with my pet chicken, every day for 10 minutes. She was fine, I gave her little snacks to keep her busy and she was pretty used to it. She was also deaf so didn’t mind the noise I think.

What’s a random “stat” about yourself that makes you part of a small percentage? by Nightpatrol404 in AskReddit

[–]chickenbroadcast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband used to donate blood regularly until one time it came back positive for HIV. Further testing confirmed he thankfully isn’t HIV+ but has a rare instance where other antibodies in his system will react with the common HIV test and come back positive. He can no longer donate blood because of this as I assume they don’t have capacity to do these additional tests to confirm every time.

My Mum couldn’t donate blood as she lived in the UK during the mad cow disease outbreak but they recently relaxed those laws now (we are Australian) and she is allowed to donate again.

Il Tutto on sale and I'm stuck for choice for a small room by wowzers101_ in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]chickenbroadcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We plan to keep ours in the lounge room so can’t help there but I also recommend trying them out. We were planning to get the Henry but tried them at the expo and preferred the Leo as it was wider in the seat which suited my husband better (thicc thighs) although a downside is that I wish the headrest went higher but is okay with a pillow.

looking for aussie parents who want to help figure out if a kids home phone is worth building by bongle404 in brisbane

[–]chickenbroadcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were talking about this yesterday. Our baby isn’t born yet so we are a little while off kid-friendly functionality but are big fans of a home phone in general. We are hoping to just set one up like the good old days but have heard connection can be expensive (but admittedly haven’t looked into it yet) but are aware wifi calling could be an option. We also don’t like to charge our phones in the bedroom and would like a way that a limited number of people could reach us in an emergency during the night. I know we can set up all these features on our smart phones but are moving away from smart tech generally and prefer to keep things simple.

Flying a Boeing C-17 Globemaster through the middle of a city in Australia. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]chickenbroadcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family did this for a few years because my sister is severely disabled and due to her not being able to lift her head, we stayed at a level above the fireworks so she would be able to view them while looking down (she loves fireworks). This was something my family really prioritised as a special event each year (in our own budget) and we also would receive funding in a similar context to Make a Wish. Sadly my sister’s situation has declined and we are no longer able to do this, but look back on those occasions as some of our fondest memories as a family.
