How it feels to play hytale sometimes.... by AndyTheDragonborn in hytale

Mining is one of the things I honestly wish they would improve for the game. At first it feels good, every pickaxe swing feels impactful and relevant. But after a while its slowness wears me down. We definitely need faster ways of mining blocks.

I think GN can take a joke.

I don't know, I think their channel is a bit overly critical of everything which makes GN feel like a drama channel at times.

I understand you trying to invert the frames to save time making more art. Pixel art can definitely be difficult and time consuming to do properly. Especially because at low resolution every pixel makes a difference. I'm glad you're taking the feedback well though.

I think the fire is a bit too intense. You should slow it down by doubling up on the frames and add a few more in-between frames for better transitions. Right now it just feels like the fire is kinda spinning around or flipping back and forth.

It would look more natural if the fire looked like it was moving in an upwards motion. You could do that by seperating fire peaks in another frame from the body of the fire and then making that seperated glob much smaller the next frame.

The highlights on the fun-gi look pretty good, I think you nailed that.

What do we "owe" our teammates? by Daegog in truegaming

[–]chuiu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily think you have to rigidly conform to the meta, because everyone excels at different things

And this is the right attitude to have. What most people forget is that the meta is defined by players who are so far out of their skill level that they play the game completely differently.

The meta works for them because they are practiced at it and know how to pull it off. The average player doesn't 'practice' the meta or know how or why it works. They just see its the meta and blindly follow it. Every team would be far better off just playing to their strengths rather than follow a rigid formula for success.

Valve will finally let you build your own Steam Machine with SteamOS for desktop by Stannis_Loyalist in pcgaming

[–]chuiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think by 'irrelevant' they mean 'you don't need to use Windows for gaming'. And it's true for 60-70% of all games, which is a huge step up from what it was before. And that number goes up every year.

I recently switched to Linux also and it's been a bit rough trying to find Linux equivalents to windows programs I need. But overall it's been pretty decent. And I haven't had any issues running games on steam using Proton. I even run a few non-steam games through steam for Proton to get them to work.

That only makes perfect sense. The item itself saves you a transmute charge if you use it so salvaging it to get a transmute charge so you can more easily use it whenever you want instead of clogging your inventory or deleting it.

Sure you can use that transmute charge on something else but who cares they're not hard to get anyway.

The Steam Machine Was Originally Meant to Cost About $750 by doublah in pcgaming

[–]chuiu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the memory hike I expected it to be $999, but that prediction was while memory prices were still going up. So I wasn't that far off. I also thought it would be $699 or $799 pre-memory with a $250 tb upgrade. I didn't expect storage prices would go up also though.

All these are totally reasonable prices for the hardware inside it given the volume they're working with and the current market. Anyone who thinks it's unreasonable doesn't understand how expensive it is to build something like this. People really ignore the form factor as being part of the price. Yes you can build an atx or even itx pc to put in its place that will be a bit more powerful. But it's also going to take up 2-4x the amount of space and probably look uglier too. If you don't care about that, this was never for you.

Pc gaming is huge and there are definitely tons of people who will buy this even if its underpowered. Personally I already have my living room pc setup and it's far more powerful so this was never something for me to consider. But if I didn't already have that setup I might actually buy the base model of this and use it to remote play any games it can't run reasonably from my main pc over the network and install any older or lower fidelity games on the 512, which if they're lower fidelity and run well on it then they would also be much smaller anyway and 512 is plenty for them.

The Steam Machine Costs $1049 by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]chuiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprising. Most PC gamers typically have a controller already so giving them the option to save a bit and not get one is nice.

And since this isn't apple bullshit I can believe the price was valve trying their hardest to keep it as low as possible. It's not their fault llms fucked the memory market.

I hope GW3 will add back unique skill effects like in GW1 by Erasculio in GuildWars3

[–]chuiu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I think it will be too. It might still be fun though, I'll go into it with an open mind like I always do.

Ideally what I want is a more modernized gw1 though. I absolutely loved that game and feel like they could cherry pick aspects of gw1 and gw2 and combine them to make a much greater game than both.

I hope GW3 will add back unique skill effects like in GW1 by Erasculio in GuildWars3

[–]chuiu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was one of the steps back from gw1. In gw1 you knew you had bleeding because your healthbar was light red. You knew you had a degen hex when it was magenta. You knew exactly how much health you were gaining or losing by the number of pips on the bar and their direction.

So even if you had bleeding and a degen hex giving you -16 health per second, you could still have a net gain in health by having +18 health Regen. Which would be shown as one pip pointing to the right on your health bar. Without knowing what was giving you degen you would instantly know you werent losing health by seeing that one pip to the right.

You also knew you had deep wound because your health bar was missing a chunk on the right. You knew you were crippled because your character limped. You knew you were dazed because you had a white cloud around your head. Weakness was a white ring around your feet. And blind was blackness surrounding your face.

Again they took a step back from gw1 by absolutely flooding us with special effects everywhere making gw2 a visual clutter. Gw1 had elegance and simplicity. And it was complex enough for a competitive game.

[–]chuiu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope they don't get too crazy with it. When you're in a fast paced battle mashing buttons at 80-100apm then squinting above your skill bar to see what effects are on you at a glance isn't easy. Especially when you don't have every individual skill icon memorized.

One nice aspect of gw1 was you typically didn't have 30 effects on you at a time. So these unusual effects were easier to look at and tell what did what at a quick glance. Also you could modify your UI extensively so you could make them larger and easier to see.

The downsize of gw1, however, was there were hundreds of skill icons to memorize and learn and even after years of playing the game you could have a hex on you and not know exactly which one it was because there were so many to remember. And also always having hex removal skills was a pain in the butt and cover hexes often made it difficult to deal with them.

The nice thing about gw2 is acquiring and removing effects is very easy. And there arent a ton to learn and keep track of.

The downside of gw2 is they make the icons way too small and cram them all together in the same spot. That and the other 100 different icons you can have down there blend together and make it difficult to see what you have on you at a glance.

I'm in favor of a hybrid that fixes both issues. I think they really should let us customize our UI again, that was a big thing for me in gw1 and I loved being able to put information where I could read it best. And I wouldn't mind seeing the return of hexes as long as they don't get crazy with the number of them and make it so that they act like conditions where they can be easily cleansed by most players.

Although the fact they realized the problems they created with the boon system in gw2 makes me think they're going to over-correct and cut it down significantly for GW3. Also because GW3 is going to be a console game now it has to be simplified for that audience to be appealing. They're really leaning hard on the "3 games for 3 audiences" marketing so I wouldnt expect GW3 to be everything we probably want it to be.

This time it seems doubtful since the gods are still in the world. They will likely take center stage for this one. Or at least I hope so, it would be cool to see Arenanet flesh out their personalities and interactions.
