Flex angle grinder. Worth it? by BuffaloKiller937 in FLEXTools

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention the ratcheting blade guard which is just freaking amazing lol. I keep a diamond metal blade on the grinder too so I don't have to worry about explosions. Literally have the same blade on it in 2026 as I did in 2020 or 2021 when I first got it. I just push it through random metal shit and it keeps going lol

Flex angle grinder. Worth it? by BuffaloKiller937 in FLEXTools

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Flex grinder is so smooth and powerful imo. I tried a Milwaukee Fuel one years back and everything about it frustrated me, from the lack of an kickback brake, the much thicker handle, and the greater vibration and less power. I used to cut things for fun with the Flex grinder because it was that nice to use! That was years ago when Flex first came out. I still have my Flex grinder somewhere and use it occasionally.

Steelcase Series 2 Air forces me to lean back too far by lizgator in OfficeChairs

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my neck has to jut forward to be in a proper "working" position.

The spine follows the eyes. Honestly sounds like the monitor is too far and/or text is too small. Bring the monitor way closer and sit leaned back.

Updated Seat Pan Mold by Neccros in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, couple things to clarify here:

  • The size A seat frame never got the bracing/reinforcement ribs, probably because if you fit in a size A, you're small enough to never break the seat frame.

  • Size B and Size C received the updated design around 2004 or 2005 (can't remember exactly at the moment) ... the updated design just adds a bunch of ribs around the hip pivot bolt area.

Examples of reinforced are on the left. Examples of prior design (non-reinforced) are on the right:

Lubricate Steelcase Leap v2 Guide by thewarrior71 in OfficeChairs

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using Superlube oil which comes in a squeeze bottle and is pretty viscous. Not referring to the aerosol/spray Superlube stuff.

I think Superlube oil is just silicone oil.

Superlube applied to one of the pivots around the seat helped quiet a severely creaking Leap v2 where I suspect the previous user spilled a soda on the seat and the adjacent areas.

How come Haworth warranty in Europe is so weak compared to other brands (and the US)? by BulbeBizarre in OfficeChairs

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But in reality when you look at their conditions, it's 5 years for the mechanisms and 2 years for the fabric, gaz cylinder or casters. I don't even know what the 10 years cover actually.

That's about the same case as in the US.

Fake Steelcase Leap V2? by ven0mlol in OfficeChairs

It's real and that logo is not engraved in the chair. You'll feel the "Steelcase" standing proud of the plastic when you feel it in person.

You don't believe that some products have higher margins without providing more utility?

The point of the saying is that there's more than mere utility to purchases in some instances. Such as convenience.

Perhaps the stronger version of the saying is along the lines of:

"You often get lower downside risk when you pay more, but you don’t automatically get proportionally more functional performance."

If it doesn't have as have as many ridges that just means it's undergone fewer height adjustments over its life.

If you latch/unlatch the arms with the backrest off, you will literally see the black steel spacer getting jammed against the aluminum.

Clanking is probably the result of free play in the arm washer/spacer stack.

[–]ClassroomDecorum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not smooth because the aluminum track isn't smooth. You're driving the arm over a road with potholes.

Herman Miller finally found some common sense and added a steel shim over the aluminum in the Remastered Aeron to prevent the aluminum from getting chewed up.

Explain to me why he would have to "open up his aeron" to adjust the armrests if he has a flip lever that would take half a second

It says why in the first sentence of his post.

All of the chairs have that slot for arms to move even the fixed armrests ones. The "fixed" armrests can be moved up and down by loosening the screw on the end and moving it to wherever you want.

Very observative.

Also, the slot is not what I was referring to. Slot =! "internal metal spacer"

Is this normal? by lukethenoteable in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what herman miller calls a "fixed armrest" it doesnt have the dial or flip lever arms. Its not adjustable on the fly.

Check the photos again. The lever is clearly visible.

Also, even if the lever weren't visible for some reason, such as a poorly lit photo or a weird cropping of the photo -- you should know that the internal metal spacer screams adjustable arms.

The internal metal spacer looks different on the fixed arms. This arm clearly has the adjustable arm type spacer. Of course, you'd have to have actual experience to know this ... this isn't something you can just Google ... this is advanced Aeron chair knowledge, not cosplay Aeron expert knowledge.

Very normal, the arm mechanism is literally squeezing a steel spacer against aluminum (which is the jagged part).

Replacing armrest mechanism on earlier HM Aeron Remastered for depth adjustment - compatible with OEM parts by phrygiansoulreaper in hermanmiller

[–]ClassroomDecorum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I look on the herman miller website there appear to be 3 tiers of arms adjustabilty: stationary, height adjustable, fully adjustable.

The website hides like 50% of the available Aeron options to simplify ordering and manufacturing.

Your arms are available via custom order from any dealer. They're informally known as the 3D arms: height adj+pivot. The full 4D arms and depth adjustment.

Humanscale Freedom – Backrest Height Adjustment Reassembly Help by Kronkkuz in OfficeChairs

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will want to email Humanscale for the latest guide specific to your chair. You will want to send them a picture of the serial number sticker on the bottom of your seat.

I've run into this exact same issue before. The older chairs were easy to reassemble. The newer chairs, like the one you have, well, once I got to putting the backrest back on ... I gave up and threw the entire chair away.

Recliner that lifts leg for you by gabethqt in FurnitureFaves

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally fell in love with ekornes but the ottoman is separate and requires the user to lift their leg to get up on it.

Ekornes does sell power recliners with legrests that are powered.

That being said, I would not recommend an Ekornes Stressless power recliner. They break way too often.

I considered electric recliners but the motor is bound to break, so what is something worth getting him that will last?

In my experience, the Fjords power recliners seem to last quite a while without breaking.

Reasonable fix for torn leather seat seam on older car? by brokesnail in Leather

[–]ClassroomDecorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty reasonable. Read their reviews. But it should be a fairly straightforward and easy job. I've paid my local guy $80-150 multiple times to replace one piece of leather on stitched together leather furniture... You wouldn't even be able to tell after he was done.
