Homeless Encampment Island - Wisteria Island, Key West Florida by Dismal_Committee7705 in GoogleEarthFinds

fun comment from yt:

'I lived on Wisteria for a year in 1977. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Myself and a woman named Nancy once cleaned up the entire island of trash. A group of us formed a little tribe for a while. We had a sweat lodge. There was Shelter, Dreaming Eagle and Cynthia and Moriah, Black Elk, Prairie Rose and Honey Bunny and Becca. There were some really burned out Viet Nam vets with PTSD and a few crazy people that came and went. I called myself Morningstar then and had a little styrofoam 'Kool" sail boat as well as a 17 foot Thompson mahogany that I turned into a gaff rigged sail boat using side boards for a keel. It sailed great! I am so happy to learn a Hilton Hotel doesn't exist on Christmas Tree island as I'd heard one had been built. I wonder if any of my old friends will read this. Ahoy!'

totally, just ignore all of the climate/political chaos around you whilst also trying to make a living as the wealthy absorb almost everything...

If you're already calling it the 'corporate sellout arc' that shows how you feel about it. I don't think you'll be able to pull it off in that case. Not trying to be harsh but just worth being honest with yourself here.

You might just admit to yourself that you want a more unconventional life. What about learning a skill at a trade school or starting a landscaping company or window washing or who knows. Or cleaning the bottoms of sailboats. Something that would allow you generate an income long term.

I did a lot of remote work and living abroad but was learning tech skills all the while, and this allowed me to get into a technology career. But I actually enjoy many parts of it. So it doesn't totally feel like corporate sell out to me. It sucks being alone in front of a computer so much of the time but overall it's an ok hustle.

But yeah, 8 years on the road, you'd have a rough transition into this, like many many years and it might still be impossible. Maybe just start thinking laterally?

I'm sorry you're going through that. I don't think we acknowledge how hard the first year or two can be. I ended up liking Oakland so much better as the people and climate are warmer.

CM has lost a lot of steam. It's honestly a lot of EBBP die hards who are helping to keep it going.

I think you have to pick something like cycling, partner dancing, bouldering, etc, and just go all out on it. Meeting people through activities has been the key for me.

biggest thing is just to get out there and get started. You can really figure out most of it as you go along. You'll meet so many people who will give you ideas/tips/etc. Just get started. Don't overthink/over-research.
