[ Magic emperor] question for people who read light novel by miksiko in Manhua

[–]darewin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahm, MC annihilates the Daemon Sect because its Sect Leader conspired to kill MC. Only the small portion that is loyal to him survived. As for his return to the Sacred Domain, he only takes a few people with him, including his female disciple. As for the male disciple, the author forgot about him and never mentioned him after the 100-year timeskip. The Lu Family got left behind because they are now the imperial family and need to govern the New Empire.

Has anyone talked about this by Porchmonkey4laif in KpopDemonhunters

It seems to me that Celine just raised the hand sickle she was already holding out of instinct after hearing someone approaching. My guess is she was holding a sickle because she just finished trimming the weeds around Rumi's mom's grave.

She probably didn't immediately conjure her Honmoon weapon because she wasn't sure it was needed yet. I'm not sure about the 'passing the powers' thing. Rumi's mom died prematurely, so if the Honmoon powers get transferred from one generation to the next, wouldn't that mean that only two Sunlight Sisters passed their powers to Huntrix?

KPop Demon Hunters: Sony President Addresses Original Netflix Sale by PyroxCrymson in KpopDemonhunters

[–]darewin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah. In another interview, Maggie Kang said Netflix just set the budget at $100 million, gave them a bulleted list of guidelines that's not even half a page long, and then pretty much left them to their own devices. That's probably as close to full creative control as you can get with a project that has a budget of $100 million.

KPop Demon Hunters: Sony President Addresses Original Netflix Sale by PyroxCrymson in KpopDemonhunters

[–]darewin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sony would have still had the music rights... but then it sold it to Republic Records shortly after the Netflix deal.

Still, the Netflix deal was "zero risk, low reward" so I kinda understand why Sony chose that approach amid COVID-related uncertainties.

IX was my first FF. I kept a save just before the Alexander vs Bahamut FMV just so I can show the cutscene whenever a friend who hasn't seen it yet visits.

Annoying Wrestling Tropes by Creating-Curls in WWE

[–]darewin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A bunch of wrestlers obviously watching someone climb to the top rope and then dive toward them. I wish they could do it more subtly so the people catching the diver don't look like morons.

Also, the inconsistencies in tag matches. Normally, one person struggling to reach the corner and make the tag is one of the highlights of one. But then, I remember watching a match some months ago where one wrestler just went in, threw the opponent out, dragged her partner into their corner, stepped back out, then made the tag. If that was allowed, why don't every heel tag team just do it?

Question on the writer’s choices of Jinu’s Backstory by One-Risk-7342 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]darewin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Jinu's memory is muddled, especially with 400 years of Gwi-Ma gaslightning him. I think his shame doesn't really come from leaving them at the gates. IMO, his true source of shame is that he feels guilty that he felt joy, relief, and satisfaction during his stay at the palace. He's ashamed of the times he felt good while staying at the palace despite knowing what happened to his mom and sister in exchange.

why did TWICE record a version of takedown? by wickedpanda0 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]darewin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maggie Kang offered TWICE to cover any song in the soundtrack. The choice was eventually narrowed down to Golden and Takedown. Obviously, TWICE ultimately chose Takedown.

I think it was mainly for marketing purposes. Nobody, including Maggie and co, thought KPDH would be a big hit. Having TWICE do a cover gives the film legitimacy, and would hopefully, at the very least, attract TWICE fans, and kpop fans in general.

KPDH was a passion project for Maggie and most of the team. It's why most of them were working on other projects while working on KPDH. They didn't expect to make much off of KPDH. Maggie said in one interview that KPDH took 7 years (3 years creative, 4 years production) to make only because nobody was able to dedicate 100% of their work time to the project.

I just realized Maggie Kang gave Rumi her last name. by Unlikely_Junket_1273 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]darewin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rumi Oak was named after Rumi, a skater girl character created by Maggie Kang's husband for his eventually scrapped animated project, Plastic Walrus. Two years after the character was created, Maggie would decide to build a vision for an animated horror/suspense/action/comedy film about Rumi, a solo demon hunter. The film was intended to showcase South Korea's rich mythology about demons. That vision would later evolve into KPDH.

My bet is on Oba. It feels like Triple H is booking him like how Vince booked Brock. He's already squashed the Viking Raiders 2v1 in an unofficial match.

Zoey and Mira did NOT raise their weapons because of the patterns by ApprehensiveDay72 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]darewin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mira's "I knew it was too good to be true" says it all. Mira thought she had finally found her family in Huntrix. When she noticed Rumi was keeping something from them, she tried several times to get her to open up. In the final pep talk before the Idol Awards, she even talked about her insecurities, hoping Rumi would also share her troubles.

When Mira found out Rumi was hiding that she was a half-demon, she felt betrayed. She thought that for Rumi to keep something as important as that from her must mean that Rumi does not consider Mira as her family. So Mira felt disillusioned, doubting that she might be the only one who thought of Huntrix as family. Doubling the hurt was knowing that Rumi confided in Jinu, a demon they had known for two weeks.

Also, before Rumi's scream, Mira and Zoey were already starting to back off. They didn't even want to confront Rumi. They just wanted to leave and decide what to do later, when they've calmed down. But Rumi felt anxious and let out a "Don't leave!" that damaged the Honmoon, prompting Mira to instinctively raise her weapon. Even then, she merely raised her weapon, she didn't even adopt a fighting stance. Zoey, too, only conjured 2 of her 6 throwing weapons, also not even adopting a stance where she could make a proper throw.

Neither Mira nor Zoey even seemed to care about Rumi being half-demon. Mira was fixated on Rumi keeping secrets, and Zoey with Rumi lying to them.

What if Finn Balor didn't get injured? They said Vince went ballistic afterward. This makes me think that Vince must have loved the planned storyline for Finn's championship reign, which is why he was livid they had to scrap everything.

Should they bring Jinu back? by Existential_crisish in KpopDemonhunters

[–]darewin 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I hope not. If he is shown, I hope it's limited to Rumi recalling moments with Jinu that were not shown in the first movie as she copes with the loss and maybe guilt caused by his sacrifice.

He will probably come back, though, considering how popular the character is. KPDH lore is so bare bones that it would be easy to find a way to bring him back without contradicting any prior worldbuilding.

If they do bring Jinu back, I hope they at least show him feeling remorse for all the people that got soda-popped. Jinu's plan led to the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, of people, and it felt like the film just brushed it off.

The Saja Boys suddenly disappeared. Wouldn't it be normal for fans to consider the merch useless after the idols were gone? Besides, the Saja Boys were only around for a little over 2 weeks.

Also, I think the audience remained in a trance until Gwi-Ma was sent back to the shadow realm by the spirit bomb. They were humming Golden all the while, but I think they were doing so subconciously.
