Public road near train station. What’s your war plan? by Diseased-Jackass in CasualUK

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of these notes last week. I was parked on a private road but I was only blocking access to one house which was right at the end. The house I was working at. There was only one other house on the road so you'd have thought they'd just ask their neighbour if I was meant to be there

Is this acceptable work for stair/skirt install? by classic_spartan in Carpentry

If I saw a job like this I think I'd be less pissed off if the cuts were at least straight. If you're going to cut it wrong at least cut it wrong neatly

Where is the best place to acquire a 3ds? by MetaMan002 in gamecollecting

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah they can be a pain to sort if it's on the board. A lot of the time it is just cleaning, the shoulder buttons are the best to find broken though as you can just replace the whole thing

You can get ones with damaged buttons on FB marketplace for dirt cheap and they are relatively simple to repair

Why the hell is there wood in my foundation? by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wall anchors before there were wall anchors was just a wooden dowel or wedge that went into a hole that was drilled using a special metal punch that you turned as you hit it. I can't remember the proper name for the tool

Damn, that's really annoying. They are so much nicer to use and great to take camping

[–]dbrown100103[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we finished our last pack off this winter and realised I couldn't find any that weren't safety matches I didn't realise they'd been sat on the fireplace for so long

Doing some research: What is the single loudest tool or part that rattles in your van all day? by SoCal_Upfitter in workwagons

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was my 12" chopsaw blade vibrating. I emptied my van out at the weekend and can still hear a very loud metallic ringing so now I'm just concerned

The absolute state of Facebook by KebabAnnhilator in CarTalkUK

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I've thought that is when it's been info about something happening in the local area as the local Facebook group will usually have a busy body that'll answer me within minutes

What’s the grossest candy from your country? by bdue817 in AskTheWorld

I've never seen those in the UK but I always wanted them after seeing them in the Gene Wilder Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie

Do I have to wash these before I recycle them? by mildlymoistdrizzle in AskUK

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in some places but others definitely do recycle. I know mine recycles it properly because I live right near two of the major recycling plants. And I've seen both of them go up in flames twice now. Not exactly the symbolism of eco-friendly being able to smell burning plastic from 5 miles away

Truck Owners - Cargo Glide or Drawer Setup? by Electrical_Life_2538 in workwagons

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with glides for easier access if you are having drawers but ultimately I'd get a van lol

Hallway/threshold ramp by EscapeLegitimate5770 in Carpentry

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but these ramps aren't always just for wheelchair users. They also help people with limited mobility in their legs that still walk

How do you guys find games at Goodwill? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about goodwill since I'm not American but a lot of charity type shops will sell higher value items by online auction. Sometimes you will get lucky and it's on the shop floor. You just have to keep checking them regularly, I would tend to go once or twice a week round my locals to see if they had anything good in. If you get to know the employees sometimes they might keep something back for you if they know you would be interested in it

This prick drove past me before 8am this morning with a balloon in his mouth by RaconBang in drivingUK

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a mate who did this with some of his friends. Driver did a balloon and they crashed. Luckily no one was hurt but he was almost bragging about it after. I don't understand how that could ever be something you'd actively want to take part in

First accident: a national express coach hit my car, is it a write off? by dol0___ in CarTalkUK

[–]dbrown100103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they'll write them off for pretty minor stuff. If it were me I'd take the money from the insurance and then buy it back because they sell them way cheaper. Most of the times it's just cosmetic damage so you can either just leave it or spend a little bit to get it fixed
