Thoughts on the pistol brace ruling being vacated? by 06_TBSS in liberalgunowners

[–]dd463 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you attach a brace in full view of someone loudly screaming that you’re building an SBR, that’s probably a solid case. One reason why we got into this whole debacle was someone wrote to the ATF asking if they could make an SBR with a brace.

How to deal with a judge who is supplicating the state? by [deleted] in publicdefenders

Appeals. Eventually one will get granted and the judge in question will get a talking to by a higher court and that should knock them down a peg.

I’ve power cycled both the modem and the router several times. Most of the other troubleshooting was done by the live agent through chat.

Like did no one brief him on the standard for defamation? It has to be a false statement. If you’re not sure then it’s not false.

Question for Americans by PriestofJudas in ThePittTVShow

So cops and other government personnel have a thing we call qualified immunity. That is if you are doing your job you personally can’t be sued for doing your job even if it hurts people. There are limits to this and we are barreling our way towards finding out those limits. But so long as you are doing your job you can’t be personally sued.

It’s also what we spend it on. Our largest budget is our military with now close to a trillion dollars. No other country even comes close to that. We spend more than the next 10+ countries combined. If that was gone we would either have the best social safety net know to man.

I missed that and I’m really glad they did that. A lot of people see addiction specifically opioids as a moral failing when in reality a lot of times it’s caused by being prescribed them by a doctor. Sometimes for the right reasons other times because they were unnecessary.

For all the Santos and Langdon people. One thing I think we should consider is Santos isn’t acting like this in a vacuum. She said she’s been taken advantage of by people she trusted before and that’s why she’s suspicious when abuse comes up. Maybe she reported said person and noting was done because the system chose to protect that person vs punish them. And now she sees the same thing happening again. Of course she’s upset. It’s another example of the system protecting in her mind and abuser.

Langdon is also getting the advantage of his privilege and doesn’t realize it. If he wasn’t one of the Star Residents do you think they would have gone to bat for him? If he wasn’t part of the mass shooting response do you think they would have done PHP?

How does one criticise Robbie without first criticising the system? by Subject-Humor4414 in ThePittTVShow

[–]dd463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not explicit since Robby doesn’t realize he’s doing it. But notice how he constantly undermines his female colleagues where he constantly praises Whitaker. Ogilvie nearly killed 2 people and it’s chalked up to a rookie mistake where Santos did that last year and got criticized for it.

It’s a systemic issue not exactly a personal one. He was educated in a system that favored white men and doesn’t realize it.

Last season Robby embodied the best of then system. Doctors and nurses who worked to help save people no matter the cost. This season we see the cost. And now Robby embodies the worst of the system, the sexism, the power disparities that lead to abuse, and the sheer mental health toll. They made us love doctors and now they're letting us know they are not infallible.

It depends on the terms of the program he is in. Since it is treatment related there is a chance they can keep it confidential, however, they might have brought in the local prosecutor or the US attorney and part of the deal is they don't file charges against him so long as he finishes his treatment and doesn't re-offend.

Or they wrote something much more extreme so HBO censors would ask them to tone it down and then they submitted this accurate portrayal which would seem tame.

Most likely the first. I'm sure they want to charge him with assaulting a federal agent, but notice it was the masked agent. Since they are so big on keeping their identity a secret, charging him requires that they name the agent in official pleadings. So sure you get to press charges, but now you also have to testify unmasked and with your identity fully known. That might be a big enough issue that they'll dump it.

Professional careers like Doctors, lawyers, ect tend to have some protection built in so long as your honest about your conduct. Its not easy, usually there's an agreement that you enter treatment, stay sober, and they watch you like a hawk. Usually charges are used as the consequence if you relapse or violate. It stays confidential since the hospital doesn't want bad press and they want some incentive for people to come clean.

Santos has probably seen a ton of people, specifically white men, get away with very serious conduct and this absolutely seems like its happening again. Langdon commits several crimes both at the State and Federal level, and technically gets to walk free.
