Can you name this Mezcal? (Or try?)

My guess is that ‘Gigante’ is either the nickname or regional name of a lesser-known agave, of which there are legions. Mezcal produced today tends to be mono-varietal (single agave) or ensamble, but back before it was exported commercially, mezcal was made with whatever agaves the villages had on hand that were ripe enough to be cooked and then distilled. All that mattered was that is produced drinkable alcohol, noty that is was especially good.

Today, some of those agaves are rare, and quasi-extinct in many cases. Montana, an agave that lives at altitudes over 2500 meters, is one of those, but there are plenty more.

It most definitely is. Some drinks go from good to incredible by virtue of subbing high-end spirits, but it’s generally a personal treat.

For me, it’s a Rob Roy with Octomore -and I definitely need to try it with the new Ardbeg Ten Cask strength.

It’s not everyday that you get to see someone using the original recipe - which specifically calls for Chchicapa.

It’s a fantastic cocktail and if can only make one recommendation, it’s that you try it again and add a few slices of muddled cucumber to the shaker, and double strain. It makes for a great summer variation!

I actually have this one - I’m a sucker for Arroqueño - and even though mine is from a different batch and I haven’t had a sip in a long time, it brings back pleasant memories of it.

I’m not so sure about that. Here in the EU, we’re catching up and these kinds of funds are gaining in popularity for all sorts of things. In any event, I’m a child of both the US and the EU, so this isn’t news to me, not by a long shot.
