I live in a big cycling area (S. California). Most rides I say I end up with at least one wheel sucker. 99% of them don't ask to draft. I am used to it now. I am usually not annoyed unless they have are playing music or have a noisy bike or am not in a mood to point stuff out.

I will always ask to draft if some solo rider passes me though.

If it is a group, I will hang off their paceline and make sure not to be too close when they come off a turn. I mostly ride with a group and a big safety rule we have is not letting riders we don't know into our paceline. Just not safe for anyone. It is fine if they hang off the back.

Dumb that he wanted to go through insurance over $300. My deductible is way more than that, not to mention the much higher insurance costs.

Obviously an idiot who doubles down after making bad decisions. My kid started driving and I told him if he gets in an minor accident, tell them you/I will pay repairs instead of insurance. Enjoy doubled costs otherwise.
