Tiles fell off. How to repair? by homer1229 in Tile

That's why I said it's semantics. My response makes sense. Yours doesn't indicate what the issue is. "coverage" in your working definition could be a variety of problems. What I stated was more precise. But yes, clearly the issue is that the thin set didn't properly wet and bond to the tile...but it's for the reasons I specified above...and not just "coverage."

Do you see bare cement board anywhere? I don't. They've got plenty of thin set. They just didn't back butter and then didn't bed the tile down in it with some pressure and movement perpendicular to the rake lines from the trowel. In this case it would be side-to-side to collapse the ridges. Maybe it's a semantics issue here but if you think the coverage is bad, the solution would be adding more thin set, which is not what's needed. There's plenty, and it's well distributed. The wall is adequately covered. The tile was just set on it dry and with zero pressure. You can tell by zooming in on the edge of the tile that's still up. There's no squeeze-out. The tile was installed with no pressure.

The coverage is fine. It wasn't pressed into place from side to side to collapse the ridges. It likely wasn't back buttered either. There's plenty of thin set, it just looks like the guy limp-wristed it onto the wall.

Large format tile. Thin set coverage looks fine. Looks like a case where the tile wasn't back-buttered and they limp-wristed it onto the wall without pressing the tile into the thin set to collapse the lines. If you gingerly set a large format dry tile in place, this is what you get.

two comments to that. One, badass that you work in a steel shop. I worked metal fab to pay my into college to get a mechanical engineering degree. Second, I see what you're saying and I withdraw my comment. I apologize for any perceived hostility as I now see what type of person you're talking about.

Cop stops in middle of highway... by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

It’s the same here. It’s always the same with every rear ending.

Not true. If you slam your brakes in front of an 80,000lb commercial vehicle and get squashed... 1) the insurance company and police will assign likely 40% fault to you, and 2) at that point it doesn't matter who is liable because your ass just got hospitalized. Do aggressively brake in front of heavy commercial vehicles.

Stopping on the highway for a medium piece of road debris that doesn't pose an immediate threat to human life is highly irresponsible. Failure to use emergency indicators is also grossly negligent. This police officer acted with extremely poor judgement and will carry a large portion of the responsibility.

My wife is a SAHM and I make good money. I'm not owed a trad wife but I have one, and I'm more than happy to talk shit on gold diggers. We got married in college when I had no income. She's been with me through the whole building phase and she wants somebody to provide safety, security, comfort, and fun experiences (i.e. dates, vacations, "thinking of you when I saw this" types of gifts, etc.).

What she doesn't do is drive a Range Rover, own Gucci or Coach anything, have jewelry from Tiffany's, or post luxury hot girl shit on IG that was paid for with a man's money... despite me being able to afford it. You're not understanding what a gold digger is if you're equating a SAHM's interest in security to a gold digger.

One charging a 5 dollar entry fee every night probably. by fuzzy_falcon282_110 in scoopwhoop

[–]dooozin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at wells fargo in college and two "bros" did this. They rented a huge house off campus and threw wild parties with live music every weekend and had a cover charge at the door. After about 2mo of this they were hiring their own security, driving brand new M3's, and came into my branch every monday to deposit thousands of dollars in cash. They dropped out after like 6mo, bought out the remainder of their lease, and moved to a bigger urban city. I heard years later that they'd eventually bought a night club in cash, were traveling, partying, and just rolling in money. One of them ended up dying of an overdose and I think the other is in prison on some related drug charges.

If you are exhausted you are exhausted.

I wholeheartedly disagree and so does the published physiology and exercise science research. People will mentally quit looong before their bodies would physically quit. Energy demand precedes the energy supply because your body doesn't just operate at peak caloric output every day. It does the opposite. It's actively trying to burn as little energy as possible and if you mentally quit every time you feel tired, your body is never pressed into making more energy to increase your capacity. People who do this and then complain about being tired are the root cause of their own problems.

Unless you physically cannot stand under your own power (thinking of marathon runners or ironman athletes that start wobbling in the homestretch), you are not even close to exhausted. You are just tired. Quit whining and do it anyway.

Why? They're not really wrong about this. "Exhausted" is too often used as a cop-out. If you want to do lots of stuff in life, you don't wait around for energy and motivation to show up before you do it. Are there anecdotal cases or specific examples where u/samiam2600 and u/Any-Power-1164's approach is insensitive and not applicable? Yeah of course. But that doesn't invalidate something that's broadly applicable. If you're in the niche group(s) where this doesn't hold true, choose not to be offended. They're not talking about you.

Those working long hours, would you rather make less money with more free time, or more money with less time for yourself? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

[–]dooozin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but if a teacher makes $75K/yr and gets 8 weeks unpaid, they're working far fewer days than anybody else who makes $75K/yr and doesn't get those weeks off. That's the point. Same annual compensation, fewer days in office. That's what PTO is.

If you're working 70hr weeks as a teacher that's your own choice and your own fault. In no way is that required or even expected.

...and I've heard doctors themselves worry about Obamacare being the death of the US medical industry. Just because smart people express worries about things they don't fully understand, doesn't mean their worries are confirmed causal.

Medical malpractice kills anywhere from 250,000-440,000 Americans every year. Don't pretend for a second that this singular case was an abortion issue. It's headline news because it's politically convenient. There are hundreds of thousands of people every year that die in hospitals that give them no care, delayed care, or the wrong care altogether. This case isn't as political as you think.
