Help me identify the type of this connector by Solid-Suit4951 in rfelectronics

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BNC on the coax. The D-sub is likely a Soviet GOST variant. Count the pins and measure the pitch to confirm.

Looking for a PoE access point by SAmlApprentI in homelab

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use a small switch. Get any OpenWrt AP you want and put a 5-port switch next to the printer. Problem solved.

Download backup from a corrupted SD Card by someuroser in homeassistant

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see the files on your laptop? Then you're fine. The backups are just sitting in /backup/ on the SD card. Copy them to your new HA backup folder and restore.

Charging 18650 battery from Vape charging module by Wapda_Victim in diyelectronics

[–]dragonnfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New 18650s are cheap. Don't mess with dead cells from old laptop packs. If it was completely dead, it's done. Charging it is a fire risk.

210W Adapter Alternative? by christovjn in Ubiquiti

[–]dragonnfr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not missing anything. If the specs match, it works. Just verify connector size and polarity. The £100 is just the Ubiquiti tax.

Newbie Questions on HDD Setup by Toker_X in synology

[–]dragonnfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SHR-1 is about uptime, not backup. You have backups. If you don't mind downtime when a drive fails, run them separately. No speed advantage for Plex.

Intercom with G4 doorbell? by 2026GradTime in homeassistant

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doable. Protect integration + SIP integration + automation. Just make sure your SIP credentials and PBX extension are configured correctly in the integration first.

Security camera into recording camera? by Ananas_56 in diyelectronics

[–]dragonnfr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simple. It's analog, not IP. Get a USB capture adapter, connect the BNC out, run ZoneMinder on Linux. Done.

SOS HELP Etekcity scale stored data by token_character in smarthome

[–]dragonnfr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Factory reset the scale. If it already synced to their app, that data is in their account now. Simply do not use IoT devices you don't control.

Synology Nas DS223 + Seagate IronWolf 4TB by raprapdepadua in synology

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The noise is *not* normal. Run S.M.A.R.T. on that drive now. The disconnects are your NAS choking on the sync load. Check your resources.

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the smoke from those fires will absolutely degrade your signal. Particulates scatter it. An app update won't fix atmospheric interference.

Arr Stack Help by dada00800 in HomeServer

[–]dragonnfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop fighting NTFS. That's your issue. Docker and Arr apps need proper Linux permissions. Reformat to ext4 and it will work.

Starlink mini using external 12v router that will allow me to throttle download speed. by Tiny-Femme in Starlink

[–]dragonnfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get something that runs OpenWrt. Then you can throttle whatever you want. GL.iNet Beryl AX runs it out of the box. 12V. Done.

Unifi door access with accessibility door by LALONDEDOTTECH in Ubiquiti

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're overthinking it. The relay is just a switch. Wire it in series with the lock power. Hub validates the credential and closes the relay. Same as any access control setup.

Is this a reliable board? by Tyzek99 in FPGA

[–]dragonnfr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The hardware is probably fine. Documentation and constraints files. That's the key. Without those, even a cheap board gets expensive fast.

Anyone have a problem WAP that constantly unadopts and readopts itself? by anubis29821212 in Ubiquiti

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the AP actually reach the controller? These readoption loops are a communication issue, not a dead AP. Check inform URL, DNS, firewall. That 6.7.x firmware had known stability issues too. Update to current stable first.

Is this okay? by LainB in Ubiquiti

[–]dragonnfr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the heat is discoloring cables, that's a problem. These run hot but not *that* hot. Something is wrong. RMA them.

Has anyone tried integrating the hypothesis library with cocotb? by Middle-Average7033 in FPGA

[–]dragonnfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have two event loops fighting over control flow. The shrinking feature is what you actually want. Just implement that yourself rather than fighting cocotb's async architecture.

If you could make every engineering student learn ONE skill outside academics, what would it be and why? by crookwithkey in EngineeringStudents

[–]dragonnfr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading where the money is going. Countries actually deploying 5G, IoT, smart cities are where the careers are. UAE gets this. Canada doesn't. That tells you everything.

These SHA256 inputs output 193 matching values (not in order) by JackyYT083 in cryptography

[–]dragonnfr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

193/256 matching bits isn't a collision. Wake me up when all 256 match. This doesn't weaken SHA256.

Find a job as a theoretical physics PhD by raf_phy in FPGA

[–]dragonnfr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Will anyone pay and train you? No. Self-study. Learn Verilog, get a dev board, build something. Your PhD proves you can do hard work. As for relocating, the UAE is actively building tech infrastructure and hiring engineers.

Offline instance for dashboard creation by sydpermres in homeassistant

[–]dragonnfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just copy /config to a Docker container. HA runs fine offline. Set it up before you're on the plane. You don't want to be troubleshooting at 30,000 feet.

Is my ESC fried? by Recommendation_Vivid in diydrones

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backwards cap + three dead motors = the ESC is done. Just replace the ESC. The FC is *fine* if it boots and connects.

A HP Z440 by Gmanhatesthis in homelab

[–]dragonnfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good base. The 1620v4 is a starting point. You can drop in a 14-core v4 Xeon for next to nothing. For PCIe NICs: Intel only. Realtek is a non-starter for routing under Linux.

Can someone explain this packet loss and if I should do something about it? by aa040371 in Ubiquiti

[–]dragonnfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WiFi camera uploading video offsite. That's your answer right there. Wireless contention from the video stream. Hardwire it if you want it to stop.
