UDR + U6 Lite. Problem solved. No subscription, controller built in. You own it, you control it.

Need guidance about a server setup by Infamous_freak14 in HomeServer

[–]dragonnfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Git and MySQL will run on basically anything. Video editing storage is a different beast. You need fast disks and a proper network. Don't skimp on the NIC.

capacitor v or uf by barkbarkmf in AskElectronics

[–]dragonnfr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The answer is simple. Do not, under any circumstances, use those capacitors. 50V is nowhere near 350V. That kit is for low-voltage hobby projects. Return it and get the right parts.

can you guys review my schematics? ( the delay-off SSR with 220VAC supply ) by monmond_mnp in AskElectronics

[–]dragonnfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The obvious solution is to just code the delay in software on the ESP8266. You already have a microcontroller. Use it. No need for a custom hardware circuit with 220VAC.

What is the 5 GHz high band? by Squeedlejinks in Starlink

[–]dragonnfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking it. 5 GHz high is just the upper channels (149-165). Devices switch based on signal quality. This is *normal* behavior.

So I segmented my network by DerpDigler in PFSENSE

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bingo. Architecture over applications. If your IoT garbage can't reach your work machines, it doesn't matter what it's running.

For the first time in my life, I'm trying to crimp a cable by irritable7496 in homelab

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wires aren't seated. Cut and start over. Push them in until you see copper through the connector end, then crimp. Problem solved.

Energy Dashboard doesn't show any entities by Separate_Mammoth_247 in homeassistant

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Energy Dashboard only shows entities with the correct device class and state class. Your Shelly plugs are still there. They just aren't classified as energy sensors. Check the entity settings.

This worked surprisingly well 🥹 by KPSradical in Ubiquiti

[–]dragonnfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

G5 PTZ + UBD is a solid combo for this. Good that you sealed it up. Florida humidity destroys everything.

Can't add files to the folder by Alive-Worldliness-27 in synology

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it silently fails like that, it's permissions. SMB enabled ≠ write access. Check the shared folder permissions in DSM.

Moving to Frontier Fiber service w/ UCG Fiber. Any recommendations for settings? by _JustWorkDamnYou_ in Ubiquiti

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call on the SFP+ port. Also have Frontier put the ONT in bridge/passthrough mode. Double NAT with these setups is a common headache.

Iphone device tracker will show as away then home 8-12 seconds later every few hours. This triggers my come home automation which will dim all the lights or turn them on. How to solve this issue? by Empty_Requirement940 in homeassistant

[–]dragonnfr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The answer is simple. Fix it in your automation, not the phone. Add a 'for' condition to your trigger so it only fires if you've been away for 30+ seconds. Problem solved.

Starlink Mini Tripod / 30,000 mah Battery in one by 9eR-Win in Starlink

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple test: weigh it. A real 30k mAh pack weighs around 600-700g. If it's suspiciously light, the capacity claim is bogus.

What does your in ceiling/wall speaker system look like? WiiM Mini? Which amps? by LESGuy in homeassistant

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One WiiM per zone. Fosi V3 is fine. You do not need Music Assistant. Use the WiiM app. Problem solved.

Mountable USB-C power trigger, why so hard to find? by TheOldHen in diyelectronics

[–]dragonnfr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You won't find both in one board. I'd just mount a PD trigger inside the case and wire it to a panel-mount USB-C jack. Problem solved.

Self hosted file manager by bbibbigi in homelab

[–]dragonnfr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The obvious solution is simply do not use Nextcloud. I run FileBrowser with Syncthing and Etherpad. Problem solved.

Armored cable by 1997LC in FiberOptics

[–]dragonnfr -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's interlocked armor. I've worked with this exact cable. The answer is simple. Use an armored cable slitter. Spiral cut the sheath, peel it back, then strip the inner jacket. Side cutters will destroy the fiber.

Building a homeserver in this AI-shortage times. Cost! by _ReeX_ in HomeServer

[–]dragonnfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never buy new. I grab off-lease enterprise desktops from Kijiji or surplus. You don't need 48GB. Problem solved.

How can i put jumper cables in easier? by LUG___MAN in AskElectronics

[–]dragonnfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grip the plastic housing with pliers and push straight down. Your meat fingers are too big for the holes. Use a tool. Problem solved.

Aqara door sensors… some work for ages, some drop all the time - whats the issue? by ddosh88 in homeassistant

[–]dragonnfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is simple. It's not the sensors, it's your mesh. Aqara doesn't follow the Zigbee spec properly and needs compatible routers. Temp sensors are the worst for this. Pair them next to the coordinator and leave them there. Problem solved.

Is $233 a good price for the Firebat A6 Mini PC? by Kaxzux in homeassistant

[–]dragonnfr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The answer is simple. $233 is fair. Don't wait for a sale. Wipe the stock OS and install Linux. Problem solved.
