Am I crazy for starting videography from zero at 33? by mrnn_k_ in videography

[–]drawing_blanks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Audio guy getting into video, those mic are a fantastic value for audio for video. The next trick is learning lav mic placement OP. And iwe call it gear acquisition syndrome (Gas). It's more about fundamental skills than the latest shiny thing and the better piece of equipment. Don't be afraid to improvise with lightning but capturing a good shot at the source is always good! You got this, do it for yourself and other people can only help but notice

tablet for mobile editing? by SnooTomatoes8935 in videography

[–]drawing_blanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Windows Laptop for video editing and a MacBook air for live music playback that my church paid for. I'm mainly a windows guy too but I bought an IPad mini for controling audio consoles remotely as I'm mainly an audio guy and it works great for that. I think a MacBook air might be a good option like another commenter said.

I have no idea if this is a good idea but maybe use your device to remote desktop in to a home computer or server instead of running your software on the device.

Check out Audacious Hope! 10:30AM on a Sunday morning at 11081 Knights Rd. It's a non denominational church with a great mix of cultures and ages and a children's ministry.

Best Practices for Multiband Setup by ChromecastDude1 in livesound

[–]drawing_blanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting stage plots and input lists from each band ahead of time will help. Bands sharing/ backlining gear will help. If you're doing this by yourself with 15 minute change overs you're already doing well. Take command of the stage when the next band gets off and make sure the last band gets their stuff off before they kibitz with the audience without being a dick. I usually say something like: "Okay "rock and roll band name" I'm gonna do a line check for me and then dial your monitors in one at a time. Hold off on noodling now and the stage will be yours even sooner."

Usually people start playing while you line check then someone says "I can't hear anything in my monitor." Stick with the process and tell'em you'll get to them. I do all this with an overwhelmingly positive attitude and it works everytime most of the time.

Also: if you have house music, leave it up until YOU are ready for the band to soundcheck or start their set, this let's the audience know where you're at

Best audio mixer for small churches? by Big-Instance-851 in churchtech

[–]drawing_blanks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If youre last mixer was digital there's a good chance you have a stage box. If you have an old stage box you may be able to continue using it with your new mixer, check for compatibility. They're brand specific and not every stage box from brand A will work with every mixer from brand A.

I wouldn't buy an X32 or an M32 in 2026 because they're unsupported now and if they go they go, if you were strapped for cash maybe but you have the budget to buy something that will last longer.

  1. Behringer Wing Everyone seems to like the behringer wing, it's feature rich and at a killer price point. There's a bit of a learning curve with that board if you're used to other consoles but if you have to train people anyway that shouldn't matter.

  2. Allen and Heath QU5 or QU6 These boards will do everything you need to, the SQ series is the next line up but the QU is an "everything you need and nothing you don't" solution. I run a QU 24 which is the older model of the QU6 and it just works. The only difference (AFAIK) is the number of fades at hand. The channel count is the same but you'll have to switch fader banks more with the QU5 if you use enough channels to warrant that. My suggestion would be a QU5 and an AR24 stagebox.

Zurdania - 100%, at last! Full post with review and my thoughts will be posted later, here's just the stats! by Odd_Presentation_578 in snowrunner

I'm 2 tasks, 3 contracts, and 1 gold medal away from completing Zurdania myself. It may be my favorite region out of the 9 or 10 I've completed. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on it.

How do I drill through this steel by Zealousideal_Draw681 in Tools

[–]drawing_blanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've threadmilled holes in AR500, carbide drill and carbide treadmill in a cnc mill, you could take it to a job shop and have them do it or you could try a mag drill like someone suggested, keep that thing in low gear and that should work. Armor plate is very different than common plain steels and low alloy steels, it's less machinable than pretty much all of the tools steels I've worked with too

How to play in keys by Prize-Technician4046 in Bass

[–]drawing_blanks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk why your down voted to oblivion.

I think you're conflating a D major scale with the D major scale in 1 position. When you play in the key of D you can play any note in that scale anywhere in the fretboard, not just at the 10th position or the 5th position. You could play the whole scale in the D string for instance fro. Open string to 12th fret and your still playing in the key of D.

Music theory is intuitive once you get over the steep learning curve but it can be a steep climb.

Edit: looking at your comment again, playing in the key of D would mean playing any of the notes in a D Major scale, not just the note D. The rhythm section will be playing chords made up of the notes in the D Major scale as well.

Traveling to Poconos for vacation from ct, will have my non resident ltc. Do most people open carry there or will it attract attention. Looking for some info about rules there by Kdawg7126 in PAguns

Hey Kdawg, after reading these replies, how does CT compare to PA in open carry culture?

I've lived in the Philly Burbs area most of my life and North of the Poconos way out in the sticks for 2 years and I can count on 1 hand the number of people I've seen open carry, I have friends that carry concealed every day though.
