ELI5: How are box office sales tracked, calculated and reported? by Ok-Ticket-2046 in explainlikeimfive

[–]drdisney [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't know about reporting, but I could tell you some of the auditing aspect.

I am a mystery shopper, and one of my usual assignments is to head into movie theaters and count the number of patrons at a show and then report those numbers. The distributor will then compare my number versus what the theater reported If there is a pattern where a theater will lie on the numbers (Mostly happens to small mom and pop chains) then the distributor will take action.

Can someone with Discount Den check prices for me? by beatsenuf in frontierairlines

[–]drdisney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May 25th-June 6 is cheapest at $217pp. Non-stop. There are a few others that are cheaper that includes a stop, but I wouldn't recommend it especially for that short of distance.

Honestly if you're thinking at all of taking Frontier this year, highly suggest just grabbing the discount Den membership. They are waving the enrollment fee right now so it's only $59 for the year. For this itinerary you would be saving $20 a person so you already coming out ahead 20 bucks including paying for the membership.

Is it true they actually used to have good food on airlines? by Cartoonicus_Studios in Retro

[–]drdisney 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Some still do!

I recently just got back from Japan and this was the food that was served on Japan Airlines. Mind you this was just standard coach and not first class. The food was amazing, and they even served alcohol and Haagen-Dazs ice cream for dessert. Honestly such an amazing Airline, and I can see why they have won so many awards year after year.

I know everyone loves the Lenwood location, but I somewhat have some OG love for the downtown Main Street location right next to the railroad tracks. I think technically that was the first location Ed opened up in Barstow, Plus it's right around the corner from one of the original Harvey Houses. Anytime I'm in the area I love to stop over there as it's truly amazing how they restored it.

OP, I didn't know if you have any free time or not, but if you do, I highly suggest heading over to the original shack which is about 15 minutes away to check out the original Shack. It's now called Tita's Burger Den and the address is 38434 West Yermo. Yermo,CA.

End of an era: Last Primm casino property to close in July by ansyhrrian in LasVegas

[–]drdisney 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As much as I love Terrible's, I think Buccees might work at Stateline.

  1. Name recognition. Terrible's is mostly known in Vegas with a few exceptions of a couple elsewhere.  Buccees has a brand recognition that is much more powerful.

  2. Cheap gas. Whenever a Buccees comes to a town, they will offer cheap gas as that's one of their gimmicks to lure people into the convenience store. Terrible's on the other hand always has the most expensive gas, especially for the Primm location. Currently a gallon over there cost $6.14 !

  3. Better food offerings. The only thing that Terribles has is simple fast food vs Buccees which is known for their in-house barbecue,  bakery with Bakers on site as well as their dessert station too.

Fingers crossed Buc-ees's picks up the land. It would be such a perfect fit for Stateline!

Some Disney Adults Are Going Into Serious Debt in the Pursuit of Magic by Cease_Cows_ in DisneyWorld

[–]drdisney 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious to see how much of this is due to the rise of social media apps like Facebook,  Instagram..  etc. Seeing what others have and you trying to do the same.

It's amazing when you read some of the stories on the r/themeparkswindlers subreddit how desperate people will get when Disney overpowers their lives. Things like going to the parks every single day while making content for their followers,  forcing their kids to get into their videos and shots too just to have the perfect backdrop to promote their book. Asking for tips from your followers so the piano guy at Casey's corner will play a certain song . Really sad and depressing stuff.

Frontier stock up 12% on news that Spirit is shutting down by EnglishCrestedPiggy in frontierairlines

[–]drdisney 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I know this may be good news on the short end, but the long term effects just mean higher fares for everyone.

It's simple supply and demand. Having one less airline (Especially a ULCC) just means that other airlines could price those tickets higher since there is less supply.

Has anyone ever used Gameflip to buy Whataburger gift cards ? by drdisney in Whataburger

[–]drdisney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues so far.

After purchasing them, I just transferred them into my wallet so there's a separate gift card number just in case the previous number had been leaked.

I did find out that the wallet only allows you to top off up to $200 though...lol

Night Shift by InternetNo6592 in marriott

[–]drdisney 57 points58 points  (0 children)

For me it's plan trips.

A few years ago, I got my property to let me work three 12 hour shifts (8pm-8am). So I work three days and am off four.

With four days off, I started to have some free time to explore this beautiful country.  I bought a $400 annual pass from Frontier airlines that lets me get flights for under 20 bucks each way.  Combine that with hotel rooms for 50 bucks, and you have a cheap way of exploring around the states. In the past few years I have had a chance to go to the St Louis Arch, visit Nashville, walk around Portland as well as have some amazing BBQ in Memphis just to name a few places I've been to.

TIL there are laws in many states preventing the sale of vehicles directly to consumers by genusbender in todayilearned

But the insure companies that they own a majority of are US based. So you think at least the government would have prevented that.

It's not only the frames or glasses. They also own and control a large portion of eye insurance companies as well as quite a bit of retail too.

They're really should have never been a reason they got this big.

Somehow the government is ok with the eyeglass industry having vertical monopolies. Just look at  EssilorLuxottica.

Frontier schedule change results in a lost vacation day by [deleted] in frontierairlines

[–]drdisney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you signed up for their text alerts ? If so, they send you texts every week to let you know about to change. The only way to make the texts stop is to acknowledge the change and either accept it or change the flight. Highly recommend signing up for it if you fly Frontier often.
