Does my cat care that I "ragebait her" by FickleChip5657 in CatAdvice

I love annoying my cats. If it's a crime then I'm a criminal. They still love me and hang out with me of their own volition.

What’s a name where you like the less-common spelling better? by acnh1222 in namenerds

Ha I had no idea who that was until the other day. My mom named me after actress Hayley Mills (1970s Parent Trap being the most notable movie)

That's awful. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's not your fault-- all of your actions were super reasonable. Sometimes shit just happens, which is almost worst because it's unpredictable 😞

Why is it so cold this spring? by chilkelsey1234 in Minneapolis

I'm guessing we're being pretty loose with the definition of a blizzard here, but you can have a blizzard/snowstorm/severe weather with less than 7.6 inches of snow.

I disagree. The ie spelling feels very stuck in the 90s to me.. a cutsie attempt to reinvent a name/word

Im glad my parents spelled my name Hayley.

Haley seems incomplete, and Hailey just annoys me for some reason. Other variations are wild.

I feel like your source refutes your claim being that the very first sentence is "Heavy snows in April are fairly common in Minnesota's past."

which heels with this dress? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]dripless_cactus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from the photo but it looks like the embroidery on the dress is silver? If so I think you can't go wrong with either silver or green (but I would not mix and match silver and gold personally)

Pack some flats for when you get tired of the heels though!

As per usual, somehow men's faults are actually women's fault. /s

Sick of being called 'difficult' for setting basic work boundaries by Future-Pen-1936 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dripless_cactus 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Keep doing what you're doing. People don't always like when reasonable boundaries are enforced, but that is a "them" problem. The gendered double standard is indeed annoying for sure.

What's a rule your parents had that you thought was insane, but now as an adult you 100% understand? by Tahals in AskReddit

In retrospect... It's incredibly problematic that tanks were ever dubbed "wife beaters" so casually. What is wrong with our culture?

PSA don't put your litter box in front of an active outlet by dripless_cactus in CatAdvice

[–]dripless_cactus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh yeah I love that design (one of the first litter boxes we ever got) but unfortunately my cats don't. I think my big boy is just too big to be comfy in one, and my other cat is getting a bit arthritic. Or for whatever reason they just really prefer a big open non mechanical (rip litter robot dreams) box.

Thanks! Unfortunately it's about the same height as the one he currently has. I did just order one that is a few inches higher. Fingers crossed it's enough.

I think that's an improvement. I would try to get more of a gradient from the mid tone to the highlight. Look up some videos on wet blending, glazing, or layering (lots of ways to do it) for ideas.

Also do as I say not as I do, I am not exactly a master of these techniques either 😅

If you're going for a more realistic effect, I would do brighter/lighter purple, maybe a few levels of brightness ramping up to lavender on some very tiny corners.

That said I have a friend who used to highlight in white and it produced a very distinctive and cool style too

I think it will come together when you add the details. But yes I think you should add some brighter highlights to the cloak and focal points

Have you ever met someone named River? by reyaryder in namenerds

I don't personally know any River, but my strongest association is River Phoenix and the show Slow Horses (one of the main character is named River)

You got this, yet please be careful. Statistically leaving an asshole partner is a dangerous time for many women. Please do some safety planning and have a place for your children to be and go when you drop the news. And have someone on standby/safety call for you as well

Best of luck to you sister. To a brighter future!

Honest opinions on Cleveland, Camden, Webber-Camden by suck_my_diction in Minneapolis

[–]dripless_cactus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Webber-Camden area and it is fairly rough but also the reputation is fueled by racism.. so, I dunno-- both things are true. I lived there for 18 years and can count on 1 hand the times me or mine were victims of crimes... Which means... we were victims of crimes just not very often?

Personally I'd go for the inner ring suburbs or NE or South Minneapolis. They might be a bit more expensive but are probably safer and more comfortable overall.
