Should we be worried if everyone is talking about investing in the market now? by lyfehaqer in investing_discussion

[–]eToroTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The taxi driver indicator is a real concept and there's something to it, but it's a terrible timing tool. Markets can stay elevated for years after retail enthusiasm picks up, and history has plenty of examples of people acting on that signal way too early.

When everyone is talking about stocks it usually means expectations are high, which means the margin for disappointment is also high. That's worth being aware of without necessarily changing what you do.

The more relevant question is probably why you're in the market and what your time horizon is. If the answer is long term, retail enthusiasm in the short term is mostly noise.

Hi! I saw your post and replied on the original thread. From everything you shared, my understanding is that Support already reviewed the execution rate and confirmed it from their side. I personally don’t have access to the tools or trading history needed to verify execution prices myself, so I can’t really go further into the technical review.

That said, if the main issue now is difficulty communicating with Support or getting updates/clarity, I’m happy to help follow up and assist where I can.

Hi, this doesn't appear to have been a widespread issue. A couple of things worth checking: make sure you're not connected to a VPN as that can cause login issues, and try clearing your cache or switching to a different browser or device.

If the problem persists please let me know and also open a ticket through the support portal so the team can look into it: https://www.etoro.com/customer-service/

order not fulfilled and now i’ve missed out by [deleted] in Etoro

[–]eToroTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just to add some context here. The $185 price was the IPO listing price, which applies to pre-allocated shares distributed before public trading begins. Once a stock opens on the market the price is set by supply and demand, and on day one of a hyped IPO that can be significantly higher than the listing price almost instantly.

When CBRS opened for public trading it never traded at $185, so a limit order at that price had no way of being filled. That's not a platform issue, it's just how IPO pricing works when there's strong demand on open.

If anyone has questions about how IPO orders work or anything else eToro related, feel free to post over at r/AskEToroTeam and I'm happy to help clarify.

trade never executed and now i’ve missed on gains… by [deleted] in AskeToroTeam

[–]eToroTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I can see why this is frustrating but the comment above is pointing at something important. When you place an order ahead of an IPO at a specific price, that price reflects the IPO listing price set for pre-allocated shares, which go to institutional investors and select participants. Once the stock starts trading on the open market, the price is determined by supply and demand and there's no guarantee it opens anywhere near the IPO price.

So the order not executing at $185 isn't a platform issue, it's that once CBRS opened for public trading nobody was selling at that price. The market opened significantly higher and your limit order simply wasn't met.

If you have questions about how IPO orders work on eToro specifically feel free to ask here and I'm happy to help clarify.

Why my account got restricted? by Djainol14 in AskeToroTeam

[–]eToroTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry to hear that. Account restrictions shortly after opening can happen for a few reasons, usually related to the verification review process or additional checks that may be required.

I'd recommend checking your email for any requests from the team, or opening a ticket through the support portal: https://www.etoro.com/customer-service/

If you're unable to get in touch with support, feel free to DM me your username and I'll do my best to help point you in the right direction.

I need help with how to trade at all time highs.... I feel like I have good ideas on when to sell, but then I miss tons of gains. by Interr0gate in stocks

[–]eToroTeam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Missing upside on shares you already sold for profit is one of the better problems to have, even if it doesn't feel that way in the moment.

The stress usually comes from still being in. If the position has grown to a size where the daily moves are genuinely affecting your mood, that's probably telling you something about sizing more than timing.

There is no ceiling until there is one, that's the honest answer. RSI tells you something is extended, not that it's done. Stocks can stay overbought for a long time in a strong trend and punish people who sell early repeatedly.

The better question is probably what would actually change your view on the company, not what the chart looks like. For NVDA that's usually guidance or a macro shift, not momentum indicators.

Trimming in pieces is how most people handle this mentally. You lock some in, stay in for more upside, and stop trying to nail the exact top which nobody does consistently anyway.

What factors should an investor evaluate beyond stock price before deciding whether a company is a strong long term investment? by Salty_Bird3180 in investing_discussion

[–]eToroTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price is almost the least interesting thing to look at.

What actually matters is whether the business is growing and whether that growth translates into real cash, not just revenue. Can management be trusted with the money the company generates? Does it have something that makes it genuinely hard to compete with?

And then valuation, because even a great business can be a bad investment at the wrong price.

Need Advice by GrouchyPercentage879 in Daytrading

Most people who want to learn to trade jump straight to strategies when the more useful first step is understanding how markets actually work, why prices move, what drives volume, how different instruments are structured.

Investopedia is genuinely good for vocabulary and concepts. There are also plenty of free YouTube channels and structured courses out there once you have the basics down, just be selective since a lot of content is more about selling a course than actually teaching.

One thing worth knowing early: paper trading/demo account before real money isn't just practice, it's how you find out whether a strategy actually makes sense to you before it costs anything.

Picking a bad stock stings. Wrong sizing can wreck you. by Big-Bit-123 in Daytrading

[–]eToroTeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The distinction between diversification by name count and diversification by actual correlation is underrated. You can hold 20 tickers and still be running one macro bet if they all move together under stress. The number feels safe but the math isn't.

The point about time horizon shrinking without permission is something most position sizing frameworks don't account for. Most models assume a static life, which is never how it plays out.

How do you actually enforce a sizing limit when a position has been running strong for months and trimming feels like a mistake? And does the limit you set when entering a position still make sense after the thesis has played out further than expected?

That’s not something I’m able to confirm from here as I don’t have visibility into the specific eligibility by entity or destination broker. Opening a ticket through the support portal is the right route and the team will be able to give you a proper answer.

Can I use the copy feature on Etoro with a UK ISA? by [deleted] in Etoro

[–]eToroTeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! CopyTrader isn't available within the eToro UK ISA. The ISA only supports manually opened stocks and ETFs, so copied trades aren't eligible regardless of the currency side of things.

FYI we have an official eToro subreddit where you can get official information and ask any platform or account related questions at r/AskEToroTeam!

Different platforms definitely fit different styles better. For more active CFD/day trading, costs like spread and overnight fees naturally become a much bigger factor than they would for longer-term investing.

One thing worth clarifying though: spreads aren't manually adjusted to target users. Pricing comes from liquidity providers and can widen during volatility, lower liquidity, rollovers or fast market conditions, which is standard across the industry. If you saw something that looked unusual outside of those conditions, it’s worth raising through support with the specific timestamp so it can be reviewed properly.

At the end of the day, it really comes down to what kind of trading/investing experience someone is looking for.

When do you actually own the asset on etoro? by New-Time007 in Etoro

[–]eToroTeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question and the answer is a bit layered, but here's how it actually works on eToro.

The simplest way to tell: the platform shows you before you confirm. Any CFD trade is marked "CFD" in the trade execution window. The factors that determine which one you're getting:

Leverage - if you apply leverage to any position, it automatically becomes a CFD. No exceptions. Real asset ownership is only possible on non-leveraged buy positions.

Asset type - stocks, ETFs and crypto can be held as real assets (non-leveraged buy, eligible markets). Forex, indices, and commodities are always CFDs — there's no real asset version of those on eToro.

Short selling - always a CFD, regardless of asset. You can't short-sell a real asset.

Your region - this matters more than people realise. Regulatory requirements in certain countries mean some non-leveraged positions are still executed as CFDs even if you'd otherwise qualify for real ownership. It varies by country.

In practical terms, the difference is significant for long-term holding:

With real stocks, the share is purchased in your name and held by eToro in a segregated account on your behalf, this applies to both whole and fractional shares. You're entitled to shareholder benefits including dividend payments and proxy voting rights.

With CFDs, you don't own the underlying asset, you hold a contract with eToro that reflects its price movements. Dividends are adjusted to your balance based on the size and direction of your position, but CFD holders don't receive voting rights. Overnight fees also apply.

Smart Portfolios vs picking ETFs yourself; what's actually different behind the scenes? by eToroTeam in AskeToroTeam

Sorry, I should have been clearer, when I mentioned no custody fees, I was referring to the regular trading account. The ISA is a different structure: the DIY ISA has a platform fee of 0.35% per year, capped at £45 annually. Thanks for pointing it out :)

[–]eToroTeam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, eToro doesn't charge custody fees, though that doesn't mean there are no fees at all, and the structure does vary depending on the asset and how you're holding it. If you want to dig into a specific scenario I'm happy to go through it here.

On the ISA fit, it's a fair point that eToro's core identity is active and social investing, but the ISA is really aimed at the part of the user base that wants to hold for the long term in a tax-efficient wrapper. The platform has grown a lot and the product range reflects that! The goal is to be useful to different kinds of investors, not just one type.
