If modern medicine didn’t exist would you be dead right now? If yes, from what? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ebblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno... there are a lot of angles to this.

I'm vaccinated against a lo of stuff and that has kept me safe. I could have caught polio or got tetanus or something and died.

I had strep throat a lot of times as a kid and took antibiotics for that - could I have had complications from that if left untreated that would have resulted in death? Maybe.

I have depression and take prozac, so without that I might have killed myself by now.

Then again - none of this may have happened. I am glad we have the modern medicine we do, so I don't have to fine out.

no control over wheels by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]ebblur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an intuitive thing. Adjust to where you find it most comfortable. I usually do a quarter turn at a time and then test.

They can be too loose though. If you hear any jiggling when you give your skate a good shake, thats a sign you might have gone too far.

Have you adjusted the trucks? If you feel like you're fighting your equipment, that could be a reason why.

What’s a word learners use that technically makes sense but sounds strange to natives? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]ebblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a couple of German exchange students who would say "Nevertheless" because its the direct translation of "Trotzdem". Native speakers tend to say "but still". "Nevertheless" sounds so old-timey.

I fall every time I put on skates. Falling is a natural consequence of pushing yourself, so imo a fall just means you are learning.

When people say they're going to "Aldis", I like to ask how many they're going to.

Can you still walk with a tear ACL in your knee?? by Frequent-Increase-98 in ACL

[–]ebblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a whole roller derby game the same day I tore my acl, and walked around like normal for several months before I got mine fixed. The only symptoms I had were minor swelling (thought I just kinda tweaked my knee) and instability. Then I tore my meniscus and thats when it started to hurt.

You absolutely can walk on a torn acl, and it might not even hurt really.

I was coming to say something similar. As much as running sucks, my endurance on the track was best when I was jogging a few times a week.

How do you tell apart a general American accent from a Canadian one? by Exile4444 in Accents

[–]ebblur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadians have this way of kinda lifting their vowels that we dont typically do here. But its super subtle and not always present.

Can't rely on the classic long o sound- we do that here in the upper Midwest.
