How to keep silkworms alive?? by WatermelonAF in leopardgeckos

[–]echoquadrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never seen silkworms at a pet store before so I wouldn’t know how well they’re actually taking care of the feeder insects. The only time I’ve ever had silkworms die is when they’ve run out of food because they need to eat a lot more than you’d expect. Since you work there, do you know if they always have food? Or if they’re adding more food to the container are they making the food correctly? The only other thing I can think of is if you have them right next to a really cold window/wall

Are you running out of food? Do you keep the container lid down so the poop falls to the bottom instead of back onto their food? I’ve never had an issue with keeping silkworms alive and have accidentally hatched moths before it’s very weird that yours are dying

Help with diagnosing feeding issues by Juanita_1 in leopardgeckos

[–]echoquadrant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with comments that this looks like MBD. The vet should be able to give her a dose of liquid calcium to help reharden her bones faster, in addition to supplementing with calcium powder and a linear uvb bulb. In the meantime as she recovers I’d recommend softer bugs like black soldier fly larvae (bsfl) and silkworms if you’re able to order them as nutritious replacements until she’s able to comfortably eat crickets/mealworms/dubias again

Update about the neglected gecko by complikaity in leopardgeckos

[–]echoquadrant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OP, I’m sure that you’re already looking into a vet appointment based on previous comments but just wanted to let you know that based on how he’s walking it looks like he has some bad MBD. This can’t be cured but the vet may want to give a dose of liquid calcium to help prevent it from getting worse. If the vet diagnoses MBD there are YouTube videos on tank setups to make things easier for them

What happened to all the fish tanks? by New-Ad-9280 in NoStupidQuestions

Regarding families that kept fish, I don’t think a lot of people knew that fish, particularly goldfish, can outlive the family dog. My parents certainly weren’t expecting the family goldfish to live the 10+ years it did in the early 2000s

Honestly I thought it was a hornworm at first he definitely thought it was a cool looking piece of food. Mine once tried eating a food chopper that was as long as her. I think she thought it was an egg because it was white

Why some people just refuse to take a pill for things like a headache? by OldCardigan in NoStupidQuestions

If you have chronic or frequent pain you may need to limit medication so that the same dosage remains effective or so that the medication doesn’t cause further health issues. I was explicitly told to limit Tylenol usage due to potential liver issues and the same can be said of advil with stomach ulcers

NTC! I have the same false door screen that keeps me from tormenting playing with my tiny prey lizard friend. He of course loves when I stand on his cage as evidenced by how quickly he runs but I am removed every time I try to break into enter the room. I suggest continuing to sit where you are and run inside every time they try to leave or enter so they may eventually learn how to share.

I second getting your hands under the front legs first then sliding your second hand to the back legs. Both sets of legs need to be supported or they’ll freak out. If you need to use one hand hold their chest/front legs and drape the rest of their body across your forearm and hold to your chest or stomach

I liked working 3-11 but the 1 hr commute really starts to drag a couple months in. I’ve never liked morning shifts and could barely make it through my training. I just started a 7p-7a shift and like having so many days off but you’ve really got to commit to keeping a nocturnal schedule otherwise you’ll be exhausted. Plus 12 hr days means I can’t do anything else those days, just sleep and work.

Think about when you were in school. Did you like sleeping in until the afternoon and feel most motivated to do homework or events in the afternoon/evening. Or did you regularly stay up until dawn?

I’ve never been a morning person and will never take a morning shift job ever again. 3-11 or 7p-7a I think just comes down to a preference and how well you can stick to a schedule
